QUOTES FROM “REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER" Jan. 14, 2011

QUOTES FROM “REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER”

Following are quotables from “Real Time with Bill Maher” for Friday, January 14th, 2011. “Real Time with Bill Maher” airs Fridays at 10:00PM ET (10:00PM PT, tape delayed) on HBO, with additional replays throughout the week on HBO and HBO 2.

The President of the United States and Sarah Palin both made speeches on the same day. Obama came out against lunatics with guns, she gave the rebuttal.

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue

Sarah said that she resented being identified as part of the problem. And then she said we’d have to excuse her, she had to work on her agenda of guns on demand, no health care for the insane and casting the President as a foreign enemy.

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue

She [Sarah Palin] has now agreed to be the keynote speaker next month at a hunter’s convention in Las Vegas. Uh, Siegfried and Roy, if you’re listening, I would put those tigers in an undisclosed location.

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue

A lot of the Republicans, I must say, I give it up to them, … they applauded Obama's speech. Some of them said, I swear to God, it was too good, said it was just a little too good. They said, if you want us to love a black man with a golden voice, he'd better be a homeless guy, begging for change.

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue

Ted Williams, who was unknown a week ago and then became a celebrity and already he’s been subpoenaed, been detained by police and checked into rehab. Or as it’s known here in Hollywood, "the full Lohan."

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue

The idea behind this is to get it down to a one-page mortgage shopping sheet, so you can actually see what the price is and can make comparisons, a two-page credit card agreement. It’s to try to end the days of word barf, you know, on the page.

- Elizabeth Warren, regarding the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

In the consumer area, let’s just be real clear, the big problem on these financial problems is, there’s no cop on the beat. The game has entirely been, you put all the words you want, you write the fine print, you do it your way, and whatever you can shoot and skin, belongs to you.

- Elizabeth Warren

Why not have a discussion about mental health or gun control, which this had something to do with?

- James Carville regarding the shootings in Arizona

I‘d like to see a better linkage between the gun control stuff we have now and the crazy-filter. Because if you look at Virginia Tech and you look at this guy, it is too easy for mentally ill people to get guns; because there’s no mental screening anymore.

- Mike Murphy

There’s ten “birthers” in the House of Representatives. So they ask the Speaker, they said, do you believe Obama was born in the United States? He said, I do. And they say, so what about these ten people? He said, it’s not my job to tell them what to do. Of course that’s your job! You have a whip. You have a majority leader. You crack people into line. You go to them and you say, you’re an embarrassment to the Republican Party.

- James Carville

I am watching this show backstage, the first show of your ninth season, and if you’ve lost anything, it’s minimal.

- Martin Short to Bill Maher

That could be seen as a back-handed compliment,

- Bill Maher

No, no. It isn’t. I mean, I think it’s safe to say that you are a genius. Really. Not particularly true, but safe.

- Martin Short

And you look great. Boyish. Always boyish. At first I thought you were Rachel Maddow when I came out here.

- Martin Short to Bill Maher

New Rule: If your movie doesn't contain any actual "history" you can't get mad when they won't show it on The History Channel. The History Channel, which just pulled its Kennedy miniseries because too much of it was just made up. Listen, if you don't want to get in trouble for fabricating, next time just call them the Shmemmedys. Schmack and Schmobby Shmemmedy, and Shmack's glamorous wife, Shmackie. And little brother, Shmed, who drove off a bridge at Shmappaquiddick.

- Bill Maher, in his “New Rules” segment

New Rule: Since Tom DeLay has done only two things since leaving politics - "Dancing with the Stars", and now prison, somebody must tell him: there are easier ways to have sex with men.

- Bill Maher, in his “New Rules” segment

This week's guests were James Carville, Mike Murphy, Chrystia Freeland, Elizabeth Warren and Marin Short.

If President Obama gives Elizabeth Warren a license to kill & adds a company of combat marines & a NSA detail to her staff, he can rally that elusive right wing demographic. If he gave exclusive rights to MSNBC, he would suck the life out Fox, overnight. Real power is never a loud display...

I was in the audience last night and the crowd went wild with applause at the prospect of the *Consumer Financial Protection Bureau* getting in there and straightening things out.

How fucking naïve can you be?

She and anyone attempting to fuck with the status quo is gonna have their severed heads handed back to 'em, by the finest politicians and lawyers money can buy.

What a fucking circle jerk, for the sake of looking like they're doing something.

Anyway...

Elizabeth Warren, while explaining why she isn't the head of the bureau, said she was given a choice by Obama to either be the head of the bureau, or take a position where she can be effective, and she chose to put the rubber to the road right away, to the once again roaring crowd...

...as I wondered aloud, "Umm... why can't she do both things at the SAME FUCKING TIME?!" Who in the hell came up with the idea of the head of the bureau being a powerless figurehead unable to utter an opinion?!

WTF!!! This kind of mamby pamby bull shit is why the Republicunts are kicking the shit out of the left wingers!

**Oh, we're gonna play fair, and still kick their butts!**

**THINK AGAIN ASS-HOLES!!!**

Bill, I enjoy your stuff and you, but Bill, you, as a former deist yourself, should know better. Thomas Paine was a Deist, NOT an "atheist"{and there is a important difference}, in fact Paine did'nt even like atheism{he tolerated it and reasonable atheists of course}.
I find it hypocritical and ironic to see you or your fellow new atheists and leftists[I am a leftist, though a deist} revising history in the exact same breath that you're condemning far right neocon christian types for history revionism. I think you need to set the record straight on your show and apologize.

I have to agree with Bill Baker. I imediately looked Thomas Paine up on wikipedia and it says he was a deist. You know I love you Bill, but if you are going to mention this stuff on national television you have to keep in mind that you speek for all of us. We have no arguement in this country if we stretch the truth as the other side.

Hey, yeah, Marx's conclusions were as wrong as Fareed's, but he had tyrants right. 8 years of Bush really put the zap on your head, man. You should study the Lincoln, F Roosevelt & Kennedy reform presidencies; all of it, the factions, their motives, their tactics and the outcomes. What you suspect Obama of is just what the Bush dynasty has been serving up since July 26 1947. Who first said NWO in public? Bush M.O. is to accuse their adversaries of what they themselves are guilty of. Who installed Truman? Do you know what holocaust means?

You should read up on mksearch2. Herr Bush's Mkultra recruited religious leaders - face it, who is better at mind control??

Books. Skip Marx, he was only battling British Opium Empire; we have bigger problems now . Read Kilz2: The Spicolli Vice Presidency. Its an excellent sample of the state of propaganda. I'll help you out: when you finish reading, make a list of all the things they didn't mention.

All I really know about Obama so far is that Bush's enemies didn't scramble anywhere near as hard to depict him as the monster. This is definitely a good sign; he must not be paying the blackmail. However Gore Vidal's forecast still holds as the most likely outcome.

Utah: The First Socialist Utopia

Marx and Engel published The Communist Manifesto in 1848.

But Brigham Young founded a religious socialist utopia in Salt Lake City in 1847.

With communal farms and store houses, BY sent out groups to colonize and expand his Utopia.

All towns would by organized in a grid system with a Stake House (church) for every 100 families to watch over their moral purity with a seminary at every school to insure the moral upbringing of the children. ALL still in place to this day.

If you are broke, the Bishops House will provide food and pay your mortgage.

So why the hell is Utah the infrared state?

Basically, “Don’t Tread on Me.”

We have our socialist utopia, but we are not going to share with heathens!

Hi Bill! I LOVE GUNS!! But as a Canadian looking at the way guns are treated in America, it really scares the shit out of me.I was watching your show the other night and I can't understand why people are so pissed about gun control, but any psycho can go buy a gun, turn around, and go on a murderous rampage completely unchecked. Has anyone in your government ever seen the application process that Canadians have to go through to obtain a firearm? You should look into it. Maybe, someone in congress will be smart enough to put some of the information to good use, but sadly, I doubt it. We Canadians love guns. We have more guns per capita than the U.S. We also have to take training courses and evaluations before we can own a gun. Probably, this is the reason why we don't have a lot of children accidentally shooting themselves. I'm not saying it never happens, but look at the statistics. Maybe you should buy a copy of the Canadian Firearms Safety Course handbook and see for yourself. But then again, the illiteracy rate is rather high among the "tea baggers", so maybe we could make a pop-up version for them.

Bill... Good on you for questioning the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan . The real problem besetting America is not terrorism but taxes . Especially the taxes being spent & wasted on those questionable & unnecessary wars in Iraq & Afghanistan . All they are serving to do is further increase the spread between the haves & have nots and further marginalize the poor .

About the "taking back patriotism" idea, I sure hope that wasn't a joke. Even if you stoop to the Right's level and equate Patriotism with Defense Spending, the Democratic Party's record is exactly the opposite of what 99% of this country believes, including (unfortunately) most Democrats. In constant dollars, to avoid arguing about the effects of inflation in the 70s-80s particularly as well as the nonsensical "percent of GDP" argument (you don't buy things with percents of your income, you buy them with actual money), defense spending went up under Johnson, under Carter (truly!) and under Clinton (2nd term) while it went DOWN under Nixon and Bush Senior. Granted the latter had reasons, but if Democrats hated the military so much, they would have simply allowed that downward slope to continue. They didn't; they started it back up, while (and this is absolutely critical) raising taxes moderately on the wealthy and running a budgetary surplus. As a result, when we needed those forces to fight a war or two, we got the job done (the military part anyway) quickly and efficiently. What was the reward that Carter got for putting the B-1, M-1, Trident missile, cruise missiles etc etc etc into development? Ridicule and scorn; Reagan happened to be President when the Carter long-lead funding turned into hardware, so he got the credit. How about Clinton? He was accused of "gutting the military" of course. Frustrating, but we need to understand the details of all this if we're truly going to "retake patriotism" and that means getting the hard numbers from Government records and putting them into all the media that can possibly be reached. A big job!

"Civil disobedience is not our problem. Our problem is civil obedience. Our problem is that numbers of people all over the world have obeyed the dictates of the leaders of their government and have gone to war, and millions have been killed because of this obedience... Our problem is that people are obedient all over the world in the face of poverty and starvation and stupidity, and war, and cruelty. Our problem is that people are obedient while the jails are full of petty thieves, and all the while the grand thieves are running the country. That’s our problem." Howard Zinn

Remember the once used Republican claim that the new health care legislation was a "government takeover of health care", a statement that PolitiFact deemed as the 2010 "Lie of the Year"? Have you noticed that the Republicans have a new lie in 2011? Since they can no longer claim a government takeover, the new health care law is now a "job killer"!

Karen Hatch-Taylor -- As another great man (Bertrand Russell) once said, "The degree of one's emotion varies inversely with one's knowledge of the facts-- the less you know, the hotter you get." This certainly would explain why right-wingers get so het up and shouty. But Bill, your (very sexy) voice, coming from knowledge of the facts, can surely only help the cause of making the discourse more gentle. My dad used to give me this Gentle Reminder:"Speak not what you know not of." Now that I'm an adult, I think back on that and realize that that sentence should be reworded so it doesn't end with a preposition. Also, it's advice the anti-climate-science crowd should take. If this country really committed to putting solar roofs on all the houses and wind stalks in unused land space, we wouldn't need oil, domestic or foreign. The tech exists, we just need the money and motivation to step up.

Bolshevism combines the characteristics of the French Revolution with those of the rise of Islam… Those who accept Bolshevism become impervious to scientific evidence, and commit intellectual suicide. Even if all the doctrines of Bolshevism were true, this would still be the case, since no unbiased examination of them is tolerated…Among religions, Bolshevism is to be reckoned with Mohammedanism rather than with Christianity and Buddhism. Christianity and Buddhism are primarily personal religions, with mystical doctrines and a love of contemplation. Mohammedanism and Bolshevism are practical, social, unspiritual, concerned to win the empire of the world. - "Purple" Bert Russell

If Obama were to find that the 16th amendment had been adopted by illegal trickery & that it has never been ratified by the states, and were he to revoke income tax,
1. Disposable income would increase, sufficiently to reverse the W Effect and quick enough to thwart the O'Reilly Fucktards hyperinflating prices to grab it all;
2. Costs of American goods and services would immediately become competitive against the feudal slave plantations abroad;
3. The Right wingers will get onboard, pronto;
4. Obama will be reelected by a landslide in 2012;
and best of all,
5. Sarah Palin will be cast back into the frigid void from whence she came.

Bogus gun control hysteria focuses on the symptom, not the problem. White & green collar criminals run roughshod over us, the low hanging fruits crack while these bastards loot the treasury, the pensions and the banks. Take away the guns & next time it will be an airplane; take away the airplanes & it'll be Chrysler New Yorker Deathmobiles. Etcetera, ad nauseum. Its the urge to fight back that they can't ever stop.

Instead of taking guns away from the all but defenseless multitude, try caring for the mentally ill, providing a decent public education for AMERICAN kids and a safety net for the destitute. You kick them to the curb at the starting line, you get Scarfaces & Jareds. PCC, last stop before prison. Its not like Harvard, its like 13th grade, over and over again. Really. No sympathy for the 'victims' in Tucson either, they made Jared Loughner, with a little help from Rupert's ph.d marketing & propaganda experts & the corrupt hierarchy, all the way to the neo libs giving it all away. I think the politicians suck, so other than not knowing how to ask effectively, they don't ask anything of people because they don't want voters to look too close at what they are doing. no nefarious conspiracy, just the consequence of candidate selection by class influence over street creds.

His existence here was a state of exilement or transportation from Heaven, and the way back to his original country was to die. In fine, everything in this strange system is the reverse of what it pretends to be." - from The Age of Reason by Thomas Paine. It goes on and on, unambiguously describing all the holes in that much corrupted & reused magnificent work of Roman propaganda and all mythologies in general.

After reading 'The Age of Reason', Benjamin Franklin wrote, "I would advise you... not to attempt unchaining the Tyger, but to burn this Piece before it is seen by any other Person, whereby you will save yourself a great deal of Mortification from the Enemies it may raise against you, and perhaps a good deal of Regret and Repentance. Question for your guests:
Every year the government forces us to buy Amtrak and the amazing toys and mostly secret services of foreign multinationals like Halliburton, that we would not need if it were not for criminal backroom deals and fund wars of aggression being conducted for secret reasons. We are required by law to pay social security and buy insurance at monopoly prices. So why can't Internet access, healthcare, higher education and all socially beneficial services be provided by the government, purchased at the best rates possible due to the mass negotiating power of the populus? Let me make this simple for the clueless politicians: insurance corporations make so much money because of mandatory laws that they don't need to support a marketing department; they just pocket that, dropping you some crumbs. So what is illegal about the government extorting tax payers for the benefit of themselves & their cronies?

All those fat rich well fed smiling excuse makers don't represent me.
Maybe next year he'll advocate employee takeovers of all foreign based corporations operating here and not paying any taxes, and disadvantageous trade policies with prison states and tyrants. Mutually beneficial diplomacy and fair trade, make friends, not wars and jail the oligarchs who view as enemies the population of their own country, then conspire to rob us. I thought we stood for liberty and justice for all. I do. What happened?

By reassuring that military spending will be maintained at 50% our national debt, President Obama is insuring that we will be responsible for many avoidable deaths of innocents, that he will bankrupt the American people and that we will invade another country before the 2012 election, namely Iran. And the fat murdrous congress applauded and applauded. The empire never ended.
Conversely, Noam Chomsky is working vigorously to stop the continuatioo of corporate mass murder by the USA. Noam Chomsky is banned from the media by these bloodthirsty corporations of rich people, and his unadvertised books are best sellers. Take that, bloody marketing executioners!
The first thing we need to do is home school the true history of the American Empire. Many well meaning people who would not condone this behavior are being misled intentionally, using their own taxes.

Our elected officials commune with the higher powers and we just do what they say we should. We don't know what those other fellas are, because that Englishman Hitchens uses big words, but whatever it is it must be wrong. Are you Capitalist, boy?

Good point Zen Grouch. Bill, could you please please please hold the next teabagger accountable for their actions. They try and try and try not to answer the question, but don't let them distract you. Hold them accountable. They will try all sorts of tactics not to answer the question, like blame it on Carter, or blame it on the Democrats, or say that "both parties" voted to raise the deficit, but they need to be held to the fire. MAKE THEM ANSWER THE QUESTION. Who cares if they get too scared to come onto your show. It's not like they're doing us a favor by showing up. Get bill o reilly and glen beck to come on to the show and give them a tongue lashing for us will you please? Also, I think you should make the point, that other countries with no stability and war and such, also lack social services. Bottom line, if the ppl are desperate and have no food or health care, they commit crimes out of desperation. Is this what the repukes want for our country? Are they that desperate to turn America into a third world country just for another yacht or gucci bag?

Another one on global warming.

Yes, there is currently global warming but no I don't think the science has proven its cause, if you think it has then you are not being open minded. Besides how are you or anyone to say what temperature is best for the planet, a warmer planet my be better than a cooler one. And if global warming does if fact kill millions or billions of people then great the planet is tanking care of itself and getting rid of the over populated planet and I would think you would be in favor of this.

Of course this revisionist language only maintains the collective neurotic denial. This creates the opportunity for a Representative Democracy Party; something we haven't tried yet.

Lugh Akston, your numbers are incorrect.
80000 immigrants are Muslims allowed into the US in 2011 by Obama's executive order (Google it).
1 million immigrants are accepted yearly.

Mexico, China, India, the Philippines, and Cuba were the top five countries of birth of lawful permanent residents in 2008.
The top five countries of birth — Mexico, China, India, the Philippines, and Cuba — accounted for 39.5 percent of all persons who received LPR status in 2008. Nationals of the next five countries — the Dominican Republic, Vietnam, Colombia, Korea, and Haiti — composed another 13.2 percent of all LPRs. In all, the top 10 leading countries of birth made up more than half (52.7 percent) of the total.

Now add 30 mil illegals, and then let's think why our health (and education) indexes lower than in other developed countries.
Half of Belgium immigrants are from Europe, not from the 3rd world countries.

The reality is clear - The people of Egypt have not been well served by the government they have. But, will they and the rest of world be better served by those who are waiting in the wings?
The Muslim Brotherhood is also known by many other names and groups which share their philosophies while providing mutual support.

We know some of these groups as: Al Qaeda, Hamas, Hezbollah, Islamic Jihad, and Jemaah Islamiyah of the Philippines. But there are many others throughout the Muslim world in Pakistan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Chechnya.

The most dangerous up till what’s happening now in Egypt has been operating in Turkey, which like Egypt is also an “ally” of the USA and Israel. That too, will soon come to an end as the Islamization of Turkey begins to rev-up.

On what grounds do you demand US military aid? Cite treaties. How many Egyptians have emigrated to America? So my government sucks, foreigns who take whats mine suck, businesses who hire illegals, outsource jobs, bribe politicians, cheat the game and play border shell games to dodge taxes suck; the growing number of beggars sucks. Nearly every time I have been unfortunate enough to catch Bill Maher’s show on HBO, he takes an article from some small town newspaper in South Carolina and uses it to criticize and categorize an entire region of people as ignorant, racist, antebellum sympathizers who can’t read, lack indoor pluming, shoes, and televisions. Mr. Maher consistently stereotypes, and chastises, The South for being ignorant racists who still value the principles of racism and segregation, while censuring all forms of equality, progression, and change. The amusing, and frustrating, facet of Mr. Maher’s perceived bias towards the South, is that when he lumps an entire region of people into one interchangeable punch line week after week, as ignorant, toothless, racists hillbillies, all due to their geographical location in the country, he exhibits characteristics of the same ignorant mindset of which he criticizes. Therefore, it can be said that Mr. Maher not only displays all the characteristics he so fervently reprimands The Southern States for, he is also a hypocrite.

Hey Bill,do you read any of these comments or do you think we're all idiots not worthy of your time?

I ask because is there ANY way to contact Arianna Huffinton? It's getting so bad over there. The censorship is getting to Bush era rightwing levels. More and more if you don't praise the site you are either banned or none of your comments get through.

With the announcement that AOL now owns HP, the comments are being so heavily censored that no one really knows what the readers thing. You can't even begin to say it's a bad idea unless you couch it in such a way it gets past the censors.

It's getting really bad I just want to know if Arianna even bothers to read her own site or just collects the ad revenue and goes private jetting around the country pretending to be a progressives when her site has begun to turn into a rightwing haven.

Go look, nothing but articles about republicans. You can't find a progressive blog anymore, and you can't find but the occasional report about a democrat.

Isn't there any way to corner her and ask what happened? Did her greed get to her and she sold us out after we made her site one of the biggest on the internet? AOL is a very rightwing and anti progressive outfit and after finding out that top people from HP are now working for Fox, what is going on?

Her censors are getting to be worse than China's censors.

Don't believe me? Go register and then start attacking Rush or Bill or Fox and see if your comments get through? Praise them and you get through.

Complain and you get banned.

Help us Bill you're our only hope of getting through to her and asking what the deal is? Why are we now her enemies and the rightwing is her BFF?

Something like 1984 could actually happen. This is the direction the world is going in at the present time. In our world there will be no emotions except fear, rage, triumph and self abasement. The sex instinct will be eradicated. We shall abolish the orgasm. There will be no loyalty except loyalty to the party. But always there will be the intoxication of power, always at every moment there will be the thrill of victory, the sensation of trampling on an enemy who is helpless. If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face, forever.
The moral to be drawn from this dangerous nightmare situation is a simple one. Don't let it happen.

Bill Maher just isn't what he used to be. He's given into his egoism over all else. You're just another leftist pundit who is in more pursuit of partisan politics than you are about the truth or justice.

A rich man, speaking on behalf of those of us who are scraping by, by propagating foreign aid to apartheid states, which promote racism, and some may even say genocide. You support the "universal" health care bill, even though it's a blatant scheme BY the PRIVATE HEALTH CARE industry in COOPERATION with the government in order to produce AUTOMATIC profits off of our health, hedging us deeper and deeper into a human commodity than they've already made us.

"If you don't pay for your health care, the IRS will tax you, and if you don't pay the tax, you will be charged with tax evasion."

That's your idea of freedom?

I mean, what else did your favorited left wing do?

Extended bush tax cuts, tried to push through the patriot act again, handed over all control of agriculture to Monsanto and protects and promotes them through governmental law. Haven't stopped it's posturing against Iran, and has MAINTAINED the two illegal wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, and it's multiple proxy wars.

If you don't see that there's no such thing is "partisanship" anymore, than fuck you and your show.

I mean, there's almost no substance anymore. I'm thankful for Neil Degrasse Tyson and Charles Ferguson, or that show would have been a nightmare.

I'll even give it up to the hecklers addressing the building 7 issue, that you soooooo bravely ran out and felt the need to bring them up again along with "tea baggers." You champion science when you're degrading religion so often, I figured the fact that it's the only steel building in history that has collapsed in it's footprint, at free fall speed due to "fire."

The United States cannot go bankrupt in terms of its own dollars.

Nothing apart from the self-imposed legislative debt ceiling, prevents the Treasury and Federal Reserve from increasing the amount of money that circulates in the financial system.

The idea of "hard" currency, backed by gold or anything else other than credit, is a barbarous relic that has no place in civilized economic policy.

The day will never come that we find the US Treasury cupboard is bare, that we are plum out of dollars, because dollars are just government IOUs.

When your guests claim that the US will go bankrupt, or that the US must bend to its bondholders' demands, you should call them on their anti-scientific bullshit just the same as you already do for those who deny evolution or climate science.

Thanks for the show, keep up the great work!

Obama is now responsible for continuing all the war crimes of the previous administration. He has not restored the rule of law and Constitutional authority violations of Bush, Rove and Gonsalez, instead exploiting them for his own destructive and obviously illegal purposes. The Congress is accessory to the crimes of both administrations.

The coup already happened.

Look up online a graph of income taxes over time and notice the two extreme lows that coincide with the two great depressions.

Look up a graph online of concentration of wealth and notice the highest levels occurred at 1929 and 2008; coinciding with the 2 great depressions.

Republican economic policies have twice caused depressions.

Will somebody please arrange for a class action lawsuit against Fox "news"; on the basis of false advertising and fraud/w an injunction prohibiting them from attaching the word "NEWS" to any of their content.

Use of the word news provokes a reasonable expectation that truthful facts will be provided.
False "news" is inherently worthless and injurious.

Fox does not provide news. Just propaganda and lies.

In the following case the Court held that Fox news was entitled to lie:

"We agree with WTVT that the FCC's policy against the intentional falsification of the news -- which the FCC has called its "news distortion policy" -- does not qualify as the required "law, rule, or regulation" under section 448.102."
Case No. 2D01-529

COURT OF APPEAL OF FLORIDA, SECOND DISTRICT

866 So. 2d 1231; 2003 Fla. App. LEXIS 1580; 28 Fla. L. Weekly D 460
February 14, 2003, Opinion Filed

Fox False "News"/propaganda is ruining American government; destroying democracy.

FALSE ADVERTISING LAW: FTC
"Private parties, such as consumers or competitors, can file a complaint for false advertising under the Lanham Act. To establish a violation under the Lanham Act, consumers and competitors must prove the following: (1) the advertiser made false statements of fact about its product; (2) the false advertisements actually deceived or had the capacity to deceive a substantial segment of the target population; (3) the deception was material; (4) the falsely advertised product was sold in interstate commerce; and (5) the party bringing the lawsuit (plaintiff) was injured as a result of the deception. Injury is construed as a likelihood of injury, rather than actual injury."

DEFINITION OF FRAUD:
"deceit, trickery, sharp practice, or breach of confidence, perpetrated for profit or to gain some unfair or dishonest advantage"

Fox's fraud is perpetrated for profit (higher ratings) and to gain an unfair and dishonest political advantage/by influencing laws and elections.

If the owners of the FCC didn't condone the Fox delusion, you can be sure they'd shut it down. What did you expect, representative government?

Don't watch tv, make it hard for them to manipulate you. When counting sheep & selling ads they count haters as audience. Be sure to ridicule those who get their 'news' from mainstream media sources, its very effective. Given the extreme spin this is very easy to do.

Dear Mr. Maher,

I don’t agree with you on a lot of things politically, but I always respect the critical thinking behind your opinions. I ask you to consider something concerning the 2nd Amendment and see what you think.

Several months back I saw you on Larry King’s final show, I think it was a bunch of scenes from different interviews throughout the show’s history. The conversation briefly turned to the subject of gun control and you made a comment about the 2nd Amendment.

Amendment II
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

Your comment was something to the effect of: “It doesn’t even apply to an individual anyway, it was meant for the states to be able to maintain a National Guard.” I apologize that I can’t remember the exact quote. What I took away from your comment was your belief that the 2nd Amendment, because of it’s wording, refers to “the people” but is really limited to the states’ right to maintain a militia as a counter-balance to federal power. I felt you believed it did not pertain to individuals’ rights to own firearms, except maybe to the extent that individuals belonged to the militia.

No question that the 2nd Amendment’s wording, on its own, is ambiguous enough that it has kept constitutional scholars arguing for generations. The terms “a free State” and “the people” could be considered interchangeable. We see what we want to see. An advocate of gun control would see it the way I took your meaning. A gun rights advocate would say the State and the people are two distinctly different groups, each with rights under the 2nd Amendment.

I do think they are two different and distinct clauses. I believe the proof of this comes from looking at the context of the Bill of Rights as a whole. In looking at the 10th Amendment:

Amendment X
The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.
This seems to clearly identify the federal “United States”, the “States” and the “people” as three distinguishable and unique entities within the Bill of Rights.

Applying those distinctions to the 2nd Amendment, I come away with the framers’ intent to be that the State and the people are two distinct groups, each with specific rights in terms of their right to keep and bear arms.

I’m curious to know if you think the language of the 10th Amendment has any bearing on the interpretation of the 2nd.

Thanks,

Mark Smith

I dont have the exact numbers but i think im close

Republicans want to take 3% of workers wage and health/wealfare and retirement 3% across the board ... who does this affect? ANSWER - Middle class

so 3% across the board on the guy making 40-60k

Republicans are ok with this because we are in crisis and need to do something about it .... ok

Now the other side Republicans ignore ...

Democrats wanted to eliminate the Bush Tax cuts .... which are what? 4% .... who would this affect? ANSWER - Everyone

So I ask you why is it ok to attack the middle class? Why is it ONLY the middle class should take cuts? You dont see the Hypocricy in this argument?

The middle class has agreed to give there money just not there future collective bargaining ... but the rich refuse to give anything.... why?

When will the tax burden be passed on to the wealthy? Republican leaders desperately defending their position on passing the largest portions of taxation to the working class. It has caused an uprise in New Jersey, Ohio, and Wisconsin. Republicans are saying no to unions and no to collective bargaining. What's next for our middle class. This is even happening in small countries like Belize. Paul Perriot a sitting senator, who was appointed to represent the unions has been frustrated at his work place and has now resigned. His former employer is Belize Telemedia and it is controlled by the government of Belize. His cruxifiction is followed by his sustained and persistent fight for the employees to own 23% of the company. The Belize Telemedia Employee Trust fund to own the 23% shares was established by the previous government. "Union Busting" a world wide tactic. We the working class are always victims of our own success! It's just the way the system is designed, it will never stop - will it? Campaign donors control the global economy. Sad reality.

To the right wing Republicans:

It's way past time you recognized and admitted your economic and political beliefs and policies just do not work.

This is the 2nd Great Depression you have created by your use of them.

Now, you are seeking to create unrest and chaos in the streets by union-busting to extract a few more meager dollars from the working people - while continuing the multi-billions in corporate welfare for the wealthy.

Have a care for the fact that chaos in the streets is first and foremost a danger to you - the have-mores.

Have a care for the fact that in a very complex and inter-dependent economic system -in the midst of a worldwide depression-teetering on the edge of a massive breakdown that wipes out civilization as we know it - Shouldn't you be doing everything you can to cooperate in rebuilding the economy and the infrastructure?

After 30 years of not taxing and charging trillions to the credit card shouldn't you recognize its about time to begin taxing the wealthy?

Shouldn't you just stop trying to continue down the path to your own destruction by seeking MORE political power, more influence, more money?

Just STOP, take a look all around you and SEE just what a mess you've made by all your past efforts to do so.

elme13 said...

"every remote control comes with a propaganda kill button".

That's fine for all the people who are capable of recognizing propaganda when they see it, they can just change the channel, (or make use of your imaginary kill button.)

That still leaves large numbers of ignorant people lacking the capacity to recognize propaganda; subject to being lied to, brainwashed, and treated like dirt

Thus, believing the lies, fooled into acting against their own (and everyone else's best interests.)

More NEWS on the AZ "Papers Please" law:

Guess you missed the expose on local Phoenix TV - picked up by Rachel Maddow & re-played on national TV.

The upshot of it was that the AZ governor had an ulterior motive for the Papers Please law: MONEY/greed.

The setup: 1. Pass legislation privatizing all the prisons in the state. 2. Pass the papers please law (all the better to lock up more illegals).

Meanwhile ... 2 of the Gov's top aides were found to be former lobbyists for the (planned) private prison system's corporate owner...(with the wife of one of the aides still employed as a lobbyist for the corporation.)

AZ currently is paid by the Fed gov about 30 million a month for "housing" illegals in prison, but just Think! How much more MONEY they could get IF only every prison cell was OWNED by their chosen corporation.

Meanwhile ... after all their legislative efforts ... The AZ director of prisons expressed an opinion ... that he didn't think the Federal government would go along with their PLAN to privatize
all the prison cells.

But just Think! if their plan had worked, how many people named Martinez, Garcia, Anderson, Smith, or Jones they could have labeled as illegals and charged YOU the taxpayer for "housing"!

i.e. AZ Gov and assorted legislators/aides & lobbyists caught in the act of setting up a massively corrupt money-making scam.

elme13 said...

p.s. in the fine print of the union-busting legislation in Wisconsin i.e. (the state where 14 of the Democrat legislators ran away to another state rather than pass it.)

(the fine print) clearly gives the governor the right to sell any publicly owned heating and cooling system or power plant, without bids, to any entity he chooses, at whatever price he chooses.

That makes it Perfectly
CLEAR to me that here we have another instance of a Republican Governor seeking to set up a MASSIVE FRAUD on the people of his state.

Keep listening to the teleganda. Republicans? When a majority of congress agrees to declare war on the population (with raises, percs & immunity from prosecution) it doesn't matter what colors they wear; you're getting stomped.

elme13 said...

Oh, certainly

There's just no evidence, no evidence whatsoever, that Republicans & Democrats are engaged in viscously fighting each other.
(sarcasm)

When you can clearly point out xactly what the Republicans are up to - there's always someone who comes up with that same blah blah blah B.S. .... that there's no difference between them, they are both equally bad; Here's the difference between them: The Republicans are the party that looks out for the interests of the wealthy ONLY.

The Democrats are the party that looks out for the interests of everybody else.

The above statement is obvious just by looking at a group picture of the Republican Congress and the Democrat Congress.

You see that Republican Congress, what do they look like? Almost all rich old white men. You see that Democrat Congress, what do they look like? Everybody else.

911 was an inside job. NORAD standing orders were stood down in both NY & DC. Only the whitehouse could have done this; in any case they did particiapte in the cover up. The antimissile batteries at the pentagon did not operate; either they were shut off or more likely the missile had the transponder codes to get through.
The coup is spelled out in USAPATRIOT act that nObama has signed. Obama engages us in 2 wars of aggression, which is illegal under international law. We were heading the wrong way before & Erkel just continues to service the coup.
If you put the crises in perspective the differences between the blues ^& the reds are insignificant. In fact if you compare them to organized crime, they look the same. We are outside the green line & the blue line; looks like we are totally fucked. We should have killed all the monarchs when we had the chance.
But we aren't totally fucked, thats an illusion. Its too soon to call yet but I am optimistic; I don't think they've seen it yet.
If we win its going to go hard for the turncoats.

And what is good, Phædrus,
And what is not good...
Need we ask anyone to tell us these things?

elme13 said...

Everything you say may well be true - for all any of us knows, BUT the one thing that is absolutely clear to me is that there are CLEAR differences between the two parties.

The Democrat president we have is a competent grownup with concrete plans to improve our country.

On the other side all that exists are Republican Congressmen that are no better than destructive clowns.

Its past half time. We've seen Obama's game plan. When do you expect him to show us his unicorn, the 4rth act? The only way he gets another term is election fraud or pe4rhaps a nuclear strike upon us, like his mentor Zbigniew suggested years ago. He totally fucked us, period, end of story.

I recognize that it is pointless to try confusing you with anymore facts.

What do you expect him to do - in the midst of the greatest threat to our country since the previous great depression - the meltdown of our economic system; should he embark on a war against the crimes of the previous administration, or get on with the task of rebuilding - amidst the ruins.

Anonymous said...

I expect him to enforce all the laws and uphold the Constitution AND the Bill of Rights. I expect him to serve the interests of this nation. When 85% of the population says he should close the border, he should get it done. I expect him to start with the worst offenders and work his way down.

What facts? Alleged double dealing by a governor already in extreme opposition, reported by openly prejudiced mainstream media? Until prosecuted by judges and upheld by the appeals process its just a political ploy we've seen before. 30 million in opportunism is nothing compared to the 100+ million burned every month in California, which still isn't enough to keep their government services from disintegrating.

Yet he continues serving with great cruelty the imperialist agenda of the oligarchs. If we had a representative government you and I would be responsible for the crimes of the governors. A quick review of history indicates that unless he fixes this you and I are going to get crushed under boots probably made in China when the rest of the world steps up to fix it. Listen to Noam Chomsky, he's absolutely correct.

I expect him to kick some ass.
