QUOTES FROM “REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER" - MAR. 19, 2010

Friday, March 19, 2010

QUOTES FROM “REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER”

Following are quotables from “Real Time with Bill Maher” for Friday, March 19th, 2010. “Real Time with Bill Maher” airs Fridays at 10:00PM ET (10:00PM PT, tape delayed) on HBO, with additional replays throughout the week on HBO and HBO 2.

The Democrats need 216. So you know, they have these little charts. And in the latest count, seven Democrats who were against it have now flipped. Four, after arm twisting by Obama. And three after tickling by Eric Massa.

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue, regarding the healthcare vote

People on the inside, you know with the inside information, say it does look good for the Democrats. Because, you know, they have this little inside stuff. They found out Nancy Pelosi called her plastic surgeon to ask if her smile would be ready for Sunday.

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue, regarding the healthcare vote

There’s a Congressman from Georgia named Paul Broun. He said, I’m not making this up, he said if Obama-care passes, that insurance card in your wallet is gonna be as worthless as the Confederate dollar after the Great War of Yankee Aggression … Is it OK now to call Republicans a bunch of crazy crackers?

- Bill Maher, in his opening monologue

Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, his brother-in-law accused President Obama of being anti-Semitic. And Obama handled it gracefully. He said if I’m anti-Semitic, how come I bailed out all those Jew bankers?

- Bill Maher in his opening monologue

At a Wal-Mart in New Jersey, someone got on the PA system and said, “Attention shoppers: All black people must leave the store.” Now, a Wal-Mart spokesman said this is the fault of an employee who completely misunderstood the term “white sale.” … On the bright side, it did stop Tiger Woods from hitting on the check-out girl.

- Bill Maher in his opening monologue

New Rule: Stop saying drug use makes people lazy. Jimi Hendrix did a lot of drugs, and even though he’s been dead for forty years, he’s still making new records. Suck on that, Partnership for a Drug-Free America! In fact, Jimi’s new CD debuted at number one on the charts. Which tells me A) his music is as relevant as ever and B) that baby boomers still haven’t figured out how to steal music off the Internet.

- Bill Maher in his “New Rules” segment

New Rule: Israel has to stop being mad at Obama because he won’t plan a visit. Hey, we’re your ally, not your grandchildren. Calm down and give it a rest, or you’ll get Biden again.

- Bill Maher in his “New Rules” segment

New Rule: Stop worrying that crackpots are inserting their dogma into Texas schoolbooks. Sure, replacing Thomas Jefferson with Phyllis Schlafly is troubling, but it’s Texas. The only use Texans have for textbooks is to sit on them so they can get a better view of the football game. The last person to even notice Texas had schoolbooks was Lee Harvey Oswald.

- Bill Maher in his “New Rules” segment

True Love is like a salesman at Home Depot. It only comes along once or twice in a lifetime so you’ve gotta grab it.

- Bill Maher

This week's guests were Gavin Newsom, Steve Moore, Melinda Henneberger, Emile Hirsch, and Congressman Dennis Kucinich.

Bill,
I'm one of the rationalist out there that has finally had enough with the "crazy christians". I got in to it on a thread on a friend's facebook page. I was mostly just sarcastically mocking the crazys until they just wouldn't let up about how I would finally get it if I read the bible from beginning to end (which I have). So I think I shoved it down their throats. Below is what I wrote, I hope I made ya proud?

Things that happened when a lot of other people read the "good book":
the persecution of pagans
the persecution of heretics
the crusades against Islam
the inquisition against the Albigensis
the Spanish inquisition
the wars of religion
the anti-Semitic persecutions
The perpetuation of slavery
The subordinate position of women
The medieval witch hunt

Although the death count is larger than the civil war, WWI & WWII combined, it all happened a long time ago, so you might need something modern to jog your memory.... Google search "church tax fraud" or "altar boy RAPE". how many results do you get???

More people have been killed in the name of your god than for any other reason, and I'm the jerk? I was just making fun of people that think Evolution is a world wide scientific conspiracy, and think there really was a guy that lived in a big fish for 3 days. But, if I have to come up with a reason why I dislike religion... well there are just a few.

Hey Matt

Check this out, you like:

why Bill Cooper was executed in his driveway

Gotta say though that Eugenics, the retard baby of Evolution and religious bigotry, definitely the #1 excuse to murder more people in the last century than all religions and despots combined, in all recorded history.

You call this Democracy? Your vote is meaningless if all the candidates are selected without you.

Bill,
I can't beleive you drank the Koolaid. You actually approve healthcare reform that doesn't touch healthcare! You are going to trust the Federal goverment to administer the spending of close to a trillion dollars? Do you now believe they can actually manage something?
The healthcare bill is 500 pages longer than the bible and we all know how you feel about that. Where is the real Bill Mahar?

and you don't have to leech them.

You know Bill, the real reason for the 'healthcare reform' is to jack up the taxes to support the baby boomer bubble through socialist security. You realize SS is broke, right?

Took Obama less than 9 months to reverse every campaign promise and saddle us with all this socialist BS. After enslaving free Americans to the insurance unregulated monopoly he's going to complete the replacement of education with indoctrination.

Of course all this while most of the congress and Supreme Court fail in their sworn duties to protect the Constitution.

Regarding: http://www.americanthinker.com/2010/03/bill_maher_to_god_stand_aside.html

Mr. Maher doesn't deems himself as a atheist. He says he does in fact believe in a high authority then humans he just doesn't believe this higher power is found in religion. Religion in his book is bondage because it keeps people from thinking logically.

But I say remove the word Religion and insert the word "JOB" (or 9-5) and you have:

A JOB is bondage because it keeps people from thinking logically. No one has ever become financially independent by working a JOB.

I say remove the word JOB and insert the words Video games and you have:

Video games is bondage because it keeps people from thinking logically. Video games just isn't the way things are in real life.

And last remove the words Video games and insert the word "SIN" and you have:

Sin is bondage because it keeps people from thinking logically. Mr. Maher is in sin and as long as one is in sin Jesus said they can not see the Kingdom.

Anonymous said...

I don't suppose you can see the kingdom from your POV?

Anonymous said...

Sin is the name of a Hebrew deity. Bill Maher does not believe in Sin.

Were you aware that you are Jewish?

Anonymous said...

Yes, the bible says it so. Did you know I knew that?

Anonymous said...

Actually you surprised me. I suppose that makes you the well indoctrinated sucker. Did you know that Jesus taught peace, not war? Did you know he said that his church is inside us?

Did you notice that they killed him for kicking the money lenders out of the temple, and jacked Abraham Lincoln & JFK for doing the same thing?

Anonymous said...

Jesus was not a hippie like you would like to believe? And in Revelation 19 of the same bible it pictures Jesus coming again as a victorious warrior with a tattoo down His leg? Did you know he also has a sword in His hand a weapon used in war, riding on a white horse to annihilate evildoers until their blood runs through the streets like a river?
Just as God is love he is a God of righteousness, and Justice.

Those that killed Jesus were not true believers of God, and he repeatedly stated that and you would know this if you have read the bible.

some dood said...

Revelation is hardcore, if you start reading from that book with the blood and the guts and swords flying out of people's mouths; and you read that to a room full of drunk and stoned people, no one believe's it's the bible.

Mr. Maher does not believe in God, but believes that some people are greater than others; my question is based off of what?

Anonymous said...

"True Love is like a salesman at Home Depot. It only comes along once or twice in a lifetime so you’ve gotta grab it."

Mr. Maher, you must have had a sad life, to have not known true love. If you do not know true love, how can you speak on it?

It makes a good joke, but it is not joke when that is your Definition of true love.

that was funny

Dear Bill,
I am not really sure if you will really get to read this message, but I really hope you do. I am a Registered Nurse and what I see in hospitals are really frustrating. I have seen patients staying in the hospital for years, just on the ventilator, Brain dead, and family wants to keep them just because the government is paying for their medical bill. I am all for life, but is it really life for a person to lie there day after day, is that the quality of life that we are looking for.
What if the family was told that they have to pay, would they still want their loved one to be in that state and pay for it. I would really ask of you to go and visit a hospital a long term care facility to see what goes on there and then decide how are we as Americans spending out precious dollars.
Secondly I want to ask if you can get this man on your show, his name is Dr.Ravi Zacharias. I know you don't believe in GOD,but I think you should talk to him, I hope you are not afraid to talk to an Evangelist are you? May be your audience can have a very different view of religion. His website is rzim.org
To see you on a show you seem very honest, straight forward man, and I hope you are.Wish I could write more. And I hope you get this.
With ALL Good.

I remember when Bill Mahar was hard hitting and insightfull when manuer was being thrown. Why did you only discuss the positive side of Mayor Gavin Newsom? No one discussed the issuance of 20,000 pink slips. We employees who were given these pink slips are out of the loop. Neither Mayor Newsom nor the union is discussing the probability of a massive lay off with us. Instead, we hear the latest on the news.

Must be nice. You know, religion has helped millions around the world in the name of Christ. I guess you feel that without religion to step in and help, atheist would gladly step in and fill that roll. Hmmmm. I don't care if you don't believe in a higher power other than yourself, I just get tired of hearing about it when you speak. Your ignorance was evident when you closed your show speaking about love making people do the things they do. It's not love that makes these people do those things. It's a variety of other issues. But it's not love. "If you want to see a room full of sinners, GO TO CHURCH".

How about we just call all the elected officials suspects and in special cases the defendants, accomplices, coconspirators, traitors and convicted felons? The "leadership" of both parties is owned by the same organized criminlas, I see no reason to call some Republicans and others Democrats. The only reason they start as suspects is because some of them don't yet realize that they are owned.

You are a funny guy but you need to check your facts about Israel. It is less a Democracy than America is today. Its like corporate socialism for natural born Jewish citizens and like Nazi Germany for natural born non-Jewish citizens, all sponsored by John Q. Public.

Dr. Tiller, the holocaust museum shooting, anti-abortion terrorist bombings, church shootings (and that other story that got buried) the IRS building attack in Austin, TX. (look in you community newspaper in Crimes section and see if hate crimes aren’t UP in your locality) I like to call IT Conservative Wacko Terrorism

I can’t believe the REAL news media allows Glenn Beck and the other FOX News puppets to get away with their blatant drive to spread Corporate disinformation and warped interpretations of the Bible. I don’t think the American PEOPLE are going to allow public policy to be driven by a bunch of Glenn Beck/Sarah Palin groupies.

FOX News is and ALWAYS has been the propaganda wing of the Republican Party and “Conservative Labyrinth”. But the TRUE impact of these FOX News spin doctors reared it’s ugly head after Barack Obama was nominated the 2008 Democratic Presidential candidate.

The level of lies, tilted reporting, racism and HATE SPEECH coming from FOX News showed their true colors… The really disturbing part of this situation was while all this was going on… The Saudi Royals NOTICED and really liked the way FOX News was able to sway the most ignorant members of American society into VOTING AGAINST THEIR OWN BEST INTERESTS… to become a segment of society SO CONVINCED by propaganda touting their ideological superiority the target population becomes EASY to CONTROL and MANIPULATE…

or what the Intelligence Community calls PSYCHOLOGICAL WARFARE!

It’s this kind of ignorance, bias, religious based fundamentalist delusions that drives the Osama bin Lunatic terrorist types or right-wing numbskulls that MISS George W. Bush.

I can prove it… I think ANYONE (even with half your brain tied behind you back, lol) will UNDERSTAND…

Ohhh, the poor anti-tax fanatic (who owned his OWN PLANE) struck out against the U.S. Government. There’s NO WAY to convince me this Joe Stack III guy wasn’t incited to violence by the Right-Wing Spin Machine. (AM Radio Free Conservative and FOX News) A CONSTANT drone of HATE SPEECH against ANYTHING tax, Obama or Liberal.

Joseph Stack III was a homegrown TERRORIST and the right-wing spin machine was like a Osama bin Lunatic video calling him to murderous ACTION! This maniac used what’s become the universal sign of terrorism since 9/11... A PLANE CRASH INTO A BUILDING

I’ve researched the AM Radio Free Conservative/FOX News propaganda machine and it turns out spokespersons like O’Reilly, Beck, Hannity, Limbaugh, etc… are working for foreign special interests that want to “divide and conquer” the American PEOPLE.

I’m sure the Saudi Royals (Kingdom Holding Co.) who are now majority stock holders in Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp/FOX News, were overjoyed at the news and confident of their long range strategic planning. (destroy America from within)

IT’S TIME TO FIGHT BACK AGAINST THESE CONSERVATIVE INSURGENTS before they allow the destruction of the USA.

NOTE: (I can’t believe the hypocrisy of the Conservative reactionaries, some actually DEFENDING this nutcase Joe (the engineer) Stack. If this guy was of Middle-Eastern descent the right-wing would have raised such a stink, pointing fingers at Obama/Biden, Democrats, Liberals for being SOFT ON TERROR!

NOTE: (did you see the video of Ailes, O’Reilly, Hannity, Beck and the rest of FOX news puppets lining up t0 kiss the right shoulder of the Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talai? I especially liked the Saudi sword dance celebrating how they got ignorant right-wing fanatics to VOTE AGAINST THEIR OWN BEST INTERESTS!

…It’s even more sickening than all the hand holding/kissing Bush Jr. used to do at the ranch in Crawford TX. George W. Bush always resembled a smitten school girl ever time he was in the presence of Saudi Royals…

I'm not sure if this will be read, but a friend of mine made this point to me the other day and shocked me mainly because I have not heard anyone, whether in the govt. or not, address this:

Lots of conservatives and religious people in and not in the govt. are making an incredible fuss over subsidizing bad, anti-god behavior that leads to abortions, but not a single person has any problem subsidizing all the patients that need costly surgeries and procedures and medicines for their bad cigarette smoking behavior. If well over 10% of US people are smokers than it's safe to assume some have cancers and chronic bronchitis and a mountain of other problems related to their smoking...

The point I'm making is one I would imagine Bill Maher would make--religion takes all the logic and pragmatism out of normal thinking processes. MUCH more people smoke than get abortions. The costs cannot even be comparable.

I think there was something about the current pope knowing about this and hiding the fact, to prevent any damage to the precious Catholic Church, Ahh Men, de MEN, DE MEN!

Seems crazy that we can't solve the problem of unrest in three countries that have collective GDP that is about 1/10th of what we have spent fighting in those countries in the past ten years. Maybe instead of spending all of that money on weapons, we turn our soldiers into civilian business leaders who can liaison with local business leaders and start real industries in those countries.

The average man on the street in Afghanistan wants what the average man on the street in America wants - to be able to go to work every day and provide for his family without having to worry that his kid will get blown up as collateral damage of either side's weapons.

OK, maybe we don't worry about that last part so much. Unless you live in Detroit or El Paso.

Hey Bill. I'm (21 year old) Miles. I just watched a video with you and Ron Paul. I am from Mississippi, ha, what a joke right? I hate interconnecting that factor while trying deliver a point of intellectual value, but I figured maybe, it will make my message more interesting. Anyway, I must say, at first, I used to watch your show all the time and loved how you never fell into the main stream media, everybody pleasing, bull shit propaganda that sweeps, as once spoken poetically, across the dumb America; however, I started to trail behind the fan club and soon regarded your show as deplorable and disregarded your sincerity and logic because of your strong leniency towards "liberal ideal government", being more tolerable and more hesitant to criticize the liberal mistakes, which, I thought, maybe fostered by the contribution of your ratings, which depends upon your liberal fan club. I can certainly understand that. A man, OR WOMAN, should strive to make a good living and support oneself or family, and that is what it's all about. I just wanted to say that I withdraw my opinion of your deplorableness, and after watching you and Ron Paul, I realize that you are pretty damn fair and someone seeking liberty should definitely catch your drift. I don't like where republicans are AT ALL, they really suck, but I don't like where most democrats are either, and I'm not slow to criticize. I appreciate what you are doing and thanks, I hope you read my message, and I'm sure you probably won't, but it can't hurt to try, I guess. I am a Christian and still like you. Politics and religion don't go hand and hand. I hope journalists, debaters, christians, etc... keep it out of your face, and you don't have to criticize it as much because you are right on many cornerstones in fair arguments, besides, arguing a belief is a short cut to thinking. IT'S A BELIEF. An explanation is all that is necessary when so much is ineffable, and I like agreeing with you, ha. You don't really argue with people about religion, instead, you just set up an opportunity for a debate and an opportunity of exercised thought for possibilities that rational people must adhere to and, as individuals striving for an identity achievement, should always confront. I disagree with atheist, but I disagree with many christians as well. Anyway, I saw some of your true colors again and they hit home with me. I'll tune back in. Thanks again. Fight on RON!... and Bill

With regard to music, the NYT makes some interesting points on the combat of what might be termed audio-violation: "For example, when they say, `You’re just complaining because you don’t like (my kind of) music,' you respond: `This is like saying that a person who opposes rape doesn’t like sex. In fact, there is convincing anecdotal evidence to suggest that people who truly love music are the most likely to resent having it forced on them.'”
