Olympics

I guess I should be nicer about the Olympics, but they just strike me as countries spending so much money and time and human sacrifice for bragging rights to what? We beat you in gym class. Right, so that means we’re a better country. Here’s how we approached the last go round in 2004.

I agree to a dgree. But the Olympics did have better purpose at one time. It was supposed to foster peace within countries while pushing man's physical abilities.

Don't ask me though.......I skipped gym class most of the time.

There is much to be cynical about in the Olympics - the cheaters, the counters of which country got how many medals, which country had the better staging - but it's difficult not to appreciate individual effort, the years of training by athletes, the joy of little countries whose representatives bring home a single gold, or a silver and two bronzes. And, on this occasion, it was a joyful experience to see China and its people come out and join the world with pride in their nation. Let us not begrudge them their happiness in their great achievement by petty griping about a year or two on the ages of their wonderful young gymnasts or the fact that two children instead of one got to feel pride in singing and lip-synching the singing in their opening ceremonies. Well done China.

Hopefully someday we'll live in a world that can appreciate prepubescent athletes and drug screen evasion.

It's not that difficult for me. Have you seen Mark Spitz? I don't think it's healthy to be so utterly obsessed with a medal that you give up any semblance of a normal life to have it. To save lives, to save jobs, to save children from some horror, but for a medal? Not so much.

china really went all out with their marketing ploys, what with pulling a milli vanilli with the chinese kid "singing" at the opening ceremonies. not to mention expelling nearly all migrant workers and pulling a million cars off the road from beijing until the festivities were over, but they're not the only ones...

as a PR student, the olympics this year - as well as others i've seen - have been a horrible game of playing devil's advocate. truthfully, i think china's human rights violations and censorship are bigger issues than back-stories and transcendental visa and coke ads...the marketing is brilliant, but irrelevant.

so, am i the only person that's still following the conflict turned power-struggle in georgia (the democratic republic of) that's been going on for nearly a month?

...was anybody following it to begin with?

don't be "nicer" bill...think of the olympics like christmas: commercialization is the dominant value, now.

I think the Olympics are a bunch of nationalistic, flag-waving bullshit.

I do pull for a lot of the people from America though. All this country cares about are football, basketball and baseball. So if you're a fencer or something like that, no one really gives a damn about your sport. I can respect those guys. Bruce Jenner won the decathlon and all he got out out it was a gig on Chips as the guy in the squad car.

Are we really trying to lobby the IOC to get World series of Poker added as an Olympic event?

The idea of the Olympics...whatever, it's fine. It's not my thing, but more power to the athletes. However I am somewhat irritated in how winning athletes are viewed. Such as Michael Phelps being coined by the media as an American Hero. And again as I was flipping channels last evening and came across the MTV video music awards and saw Michael Phelps come on as a presenter and the guy presenting him said something like "now here's a true american hero"...which to me, especially at a time of war where individuals are actually being killed or hurt serving in our country's military, seemed crazy. And now, quite frankly, I don't even like the Phelps kid, and it's not even his fault...if that makes any sense!?

This is done when various cities/countries don't have money for health care, the homeless, etc. but walla - they seem to come up with the $s to erect buildings, build roads, etc. etc. to hold a 2 week event. At least if they were held in one place, unnecessary money wouldn't need to be wasted.

Jack Cafferty: If Obama loses, it’s because of racism

Technically he’s asking, not asserting, but it’s no more an earnest question than the chyrons on Cavuto’s show are. Could it be that McCain is a strong candidate and The One simply hasn’t run a very good general election campaign, as many Dems admit? Nah. The flaw in that theory is that it would legitimize a McCain victory, and we simply can’t have that: It’s an article of leftist faith that not only has no Republican been legitimately elected since Bush I in 1988, no Republican could possibly be legitimately elected after eight years of Bush II. If Maverick pulls it out, there’ll simply have to be an alternative, discrediting explanation. And so here it is, preemptively, just in case there are no Diebold snafus on Election Day to demagogue. Expect much more next month, needless to say, as well as the odd veiled threat or two if McCain holds tight in the polls and the Democrats start to panic. Biden’s and Sebelius’s comments are just the start.
Update: Forgot to mention — stick with it until the end or you’ll miss the viewer hypothetical about how The One, supposedly doomed by racism, might be faring right now with Hillary as his VP.

Bill- How about a film knocking Islam or are you too afriad? As someone who clings to religion and my guns, you can take your stupid movie and trash it. You couldn't pay me to see this garbage who produced. I just love those anti-religious leftists who mock Christianity, but never have the onions to knock Islam. Show some courage Bill or are you a bimbo?

Speaking of bimbos, Nancy Pelosi did a great job, didn't she? She is so stupid that she engages in partisan attacks before a crucial vote. She really put country before politics. We are in this mess due to another failed liberal policy, giving loans to people who cannot afford them. Bill, when was the last time you loaned money to someone who could not pay you back? And when there were attempts to reform Fannie, who opposed it Bill? Frank and Dodd, but never let the facts get in the way of your critical thinking.

To Bill and all of his followers- you are all pathetic losers. I'll debate Maher anywhere and anytime. How about it Bill? Do you got the onions to debate a schmuck who clings to religion and guns? I didn't think so.

Dorothy said...

OMG, you don't watch Bill Maher much if you don't know that he does 'knock' ANY religion. Not all of us believe in fairy tales!

I wonder if you have the onions to get rid of your guns.

There's no point in debating. You don't need Bill Maher to make you look like a...... "schmuck".

Thank you for your brilliant look at America and the world. You "get it". I am writing in Bill Maher for president. "Religulous" is ... no words to describe. It was the laugh I needed after just having my home broken into. But, it's sad to think that so many people believe all this religious crap.

Dorothy said...

After what Bush has done to the U.S., I can't believe any American would think of rewarding the Republicans by voting in McCain. I couldn't believe he was voted in a 2nd time in 2004 and now it would be impossible to believe. Fear is a powerful thing and McCain is sure pushing it down the Americans throat! Sad, but hope they're smarter than to fall for it this time.

Dorothy said...

p.s.
And does anyone actually believe McCain was thinking of 'Country First' when he chose Sarah Palin as VP running mate? Puleeeease!

They could probably cure cancer with the amount they spend on the Olympics. I also think that it would be nice if they would once in a while pay tribute to the Israeli Athletes who lost their lives in Munich. I'm just not interested in watching the Olympics anymore. A complete waste.

On your show tonight, November 7, 2008. You, Bill Maher, said that we should not question Obama's Patriotism. Well, I think you are completely wrong. American's should have every right to question the Patriotism of Mr. Obama. This man has just been elected into the White House, and he has NO Executive experience, and only 4 years experience as a Senator. It is FACT, that Senator McCain was a POW longer than this man has been in politics. Now that is what I call Patroitism and Dedication to ones Country.

I do not like the fact that Mr. Obama hid too much information. Why would he not release his medical records? Oh, I'm sorry, he did release a one page document. I think more details should be released about the connection with Bill Ayers and ACORN.

Change? How funny, will there be much change with a Bill Clinton flucky, Mr. Emanuel, as Cheif of Staff? Gee, this sounds like same old politics to me. I'm not looking forward to January 09!

Your recent speaking engagement with Ann Coulter perpetuates the same hypocrisy and greed that you claim to abhor. Here's where you are just like Hannity and O'Reilly and Ann etc: your relationships exist for profit. And profit seems to trump the principles you claim to have. You hate the person -- but you don't mind making a buck off the public. Moreover, the arguments you present, have an underlying agreement not to seriously offend. It's not substance, it's about the show and the business. Further, you take more money that you don't need. And that's fine. Except when take a platform of attacking the same people doing the same thing.

That you would go "on tour" with Coulter is very disappointing. If you want to make a point, do it for free. UNLESS, it's ONLY ABOUT THE MONEY!

Our ancestors learned from research and experimenting that if you put all the horses on the same end of the wagon and have them all pull in the same direction they can move a much larger load faster, easier and the horses do not get near as tired. After a while the horses learn to go to the same end of the wagon by themselves. Now our Congress has a problem or legislation and they surround it,all pull in different directions get so tired they can only work four days a week and need to take several months a year off just to rest up. My concern is are horses smarter than our Congressmen?

The End of Humour

Holistic Party Press, Wolfville, Nova Scotia.. 2010

The beginning of one of the most startling and sudden changes in the evolution of homo sapiens sapiens took place in just 4 years.

It began in February, 2006 with the world wide demonstrations, riots, and attacks by the fundamentalist Muslims in Iran and Syria eventually spreading throughout the world. A Danish newspaper published cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed wearing a bomb for a hat and declaring that there were no more virgins for suicide bombers when they arrived in heaven.
The demonstrators were very successful: The President of Denmark apologized as did leaders of all countries where the cartoons were duplicated. No cartoons or jokes were made again about the Muslim religion.

In June, over 100,000 senior citizens, many in wheel chairs from nursing homes throughout the country, drove (or were bussed) to a rowdy demonstration in Wolfville Nova Scotia. The Grapevine had printed the following story:

A little old lady was running up and down the halls in a nursing home.
As she walked, she would flip up the hem of her nightgown and say
"Supersex." She walked up to an elderly man in a wheelchair. Flipping
her gown at him, she said, "Supersex." He sat silently for a moment or
two and finally answered, "I'll take the soup."

The demonstrations against jokes belittling seniors soon spread world wide and the insensitive belittling and crass humour about the elderly came to an end.

In July, over 2 million protesters brought the city of London England to a standstill as Roman Catholics and British Royalists combined to stage one of the wildest protests the world had ever witnessed. They burned down all the printing presses and newspaper buildings in the city as they were enraged by the following which had been printed in all London's papers:

POPE AND QUEEN OF ENGLAND

The Pope and the Queen of England are on the same stage at an Anglican and Catholic commemoration of the Anglo-Irish accords - the crowd is huge - thousands. Her Majesty and His Holiness can't help but have a little rivalry - both being heads of churches and all.
The Queen says to the Pope, "Did you know that with just one little wave of my hand I can make every English person in the crowd go wild?" He doubts it, so she shows him. Sure enough, the royal-gloved wave elicits rapture and cheering from every Englishman in the crowd.
Gradually, the cheering subsides. The Pope, not wanting to be outdone by someone wearing a worse frock and hat than he, considers what he could do. So the Pope says to the Queen,"Your Majesty, that was impressive. But did you know that with one little wave of MY hand I can make every Irish person in the crowd go crazy with joy? Their joy will not be a momentary display like that of your subjects, but will go deep into their hearts, and they will speak forever of this day and rejoice - they will recount it to their grandchildren and they to their descendants.
The Queen seriously doubts this, and says so. "One little wave of your hand and all Irish people will rejoice forever? Show me." So the Pope slapped her.
Jokes about the Irish Catholics and Royalty both ended.

At the end of July, the city of London, Ontario was faced with a near riot on a Sunday morning as the many protestant churchgoers stormed out of their churches and smashed the bars and nightclubs which had grown up around Western University - a student paper had published the following insult:
.
Q: How can you tell if a WASP is sexually excited?
A: The stiff upper lip.
No more jokes against protestants because of the demonstrations.

In August, in Poland over a million people stormed the United Nations building in Warsaw in protest against the rest of the world making fun of the Polish People. They were particularly inflamed because in an article in a United Nations Bulletin, the following anecdote was included:

These two Polish guys rent a boat and go fishing in a lake. They are
amazed at the number of fish that they caught that day, so one says to
the other, "We'll have to come back here tomorrow!"
The other asks, "But how will we remember where this spot is?"
The first guy then takes a can of spray paint, paints an X on
the bottom of the boat, and says, "We'll just look for this X
tomorrow."
The other guy says, "You idiot! How do you know we'll get the
same boat?"

In St. Johns Newfoundland, tens of thousands of Newfoundlanders stormed the Government of Canada buildings in protest against all Newfie jokes which were spread throughout Canada - such as the following.

A Torontonian, a Nova Scotian, and an old Newfie went into a bar and each ordered a beer. Each found a fly in their beer.
The Torontonian looked in his beer and said, "Hey bartender I have a fly in my beer. Give me another beer."
The Nova Scotian looked in his beer, found the fly, reached in and picked it out and continued drinking.
The old Newfie looked in his beer, saw the fly, grabbed it by the wings, shook it over the glass and yelled, "Spit it out!"

Over the next year there were protests against such insensitive and insulting cartoons and stories in Israel, in Russia, and in America, the world's super power there were two super protests - one in September by the homosexual community and one in October by the blacks who violently protested the following insult which was told at a Olympic track meet and picked up by a hidden microphone and inadvertantly carried on Nationwide TV:

Q. Why are black people so fast?
A. All the slow ones are in jail.

Political leaders scrambled to end the violence and hatred such jokes and demonstrations provoked. Legislation was passed in various countries prohibiting such insensitive and insulting cartoons and stories. Eventually the United Nations included such activity as an act of Genocide.
Books became outlawed and thousands of writers were put on a prohibited list. Voltaire, Swift, Mark Twain, etc.etc.etc. etc.

Soon all activities provoking laughter became a crime.
Parents were investigated by the Childrens Aid Society for laughing at the courageous awkwardness of their children as they started to learn to walk. People were arrested for laughing at hats which for some prejudicial reason made them laugh. At a restaurant in Paris, a patron was arrested for laughing because she accidently squirted ketchup on her boyfriend instead of on her french fries. A teacher was charged with insulting a student because she smiled when the student nervously stumbled over the wording a poem he was reciting.

The Spanish Inquisition and the New England trials of witches paled in comparision to the punishment inflicted on comedians and humourists.

The medical profession believed that such crimes could be prevented by finding the DNA gene for humour and genetically modifying human DNA codes. The plastic surgeons developed procedures where the lips and cheeks could be corrected so smiling became impossible.
There is now research going on to discover surgical procedures on the lungs and throat to prevent laughter.

As drugs were legalized worldwide in 2008, the courts, police, and penitentiary personnel were not faced with unemployment, in fact they were busier than ever protecting society from the crime of humour.

The words humour, jokes, and cartoons are no longer heard in politically correct and polite society - just as the words fuck, shit and piss used to be rarely spoken.

Our species, homo sapiens, sapiens continues its march forward to a global civilization. And that is not a joke!

The Holistic Party is preparing another platform:

Platform #13 - LLSS - Liberate Laughter - Save Smiling

All jokes, humour, laughter or smiling will be legalized and all references to them will be removed from the criminal code.

Good Day,
My wife and I do enjoy Bill Maher's program. We have followed him since Comedy Central. We felt bad he got kicked off ABC. We get HBO JUST for his show. However, we wish he would stop saying bad things against organized religion. We are Lutherans in a mainline church who do food banks, help the needy and of course worship God. Our clergy attend accredited divinity schools and study all world religions. We agree to disagree in many areas of faith. We try to be ecumenical or dialogue with other belief systems for the sake of the greater community. Just because Bill had a bad experience in his Catholic church upbringing, it does not mean all of us had bad church experiences. We are roughly in our mid 50s of age. We do not think there is any "perfect" church [or TV show!]. For Bill to tear down all organized religion based on his own personal experiences places him in the same arena as the right wing biggots he often critiques.
Thanks,
Dave C.

Dear Bill Mahr, I really don't know how to say all this but will do my best.
There is something going on this country that is so wrong it is horrible. It is a tactic used by many corporations called psychological harassment. To me this stuff is a horror story! I can't believe what it does to people. To find out more go to psychologicalharassment.com.
For the past several years on my job I have been having this done to me. It is nearly impossible to prove and plays with peoples minds and emotions to the point it can cause mental illness, paranoia and explosive outburst to the point of being deadly. It plays with peoples sanity and for some it can cause mental break downs and financial loss...ruining peoples lives.
Now here is the big whopper!
Last year I was so frustrated with these tactics being used on me that I checked in to the local hospital for outpatient treatment in order to get a break from it and to get my head together. I told the hospital what kinds of things that work was doing and a psychologist said, "Well you have the same psychological profile of Joseph Wesbecker."
Joseph Wesbecker shot eighteen people at Standard Graveir several years ago...and no one knew why. No fault was found with the company.
I am a peaceful person who doesn't own a gun other than a crossman BB pistol. I am not a hunter either. What mad these doctors say that was what I told them the company was doing to me.
The way psyc-harassment works is un believably clever.
Goto psychologicalharassment.com
this stuff is legal too!
I handle what's being done to me by educating myself on the subject and when they get to me too much I go on disability and get away from my work and regroup then go back. But I am aware of the tactics...here is the kicker.
Someone who is unaware of the tactics is at full mercy to the effects.
This stuff can cause mental breaks and it is used to push people out of their jobs. It functions somewhat like politics which brings me to this point....
Seems there are more people than ever in this country suffering from mental issues.
And The knews seems to be showing more every day about people losing their minds and going on shooting sprees either at their work place or in public then killing themselves at a work place they were terminated from.
The way psych-harassment works is perfect in everyway.
It is hard to prove because it blends in with every day human behavior and is utilized through veiled threats by keeping it legal but it is so deceptive and clever that the individual feels threatened but can't prove it for the attacker chocks it up to something innocent and the problem must be the other persons.
The more the victim does to protect himself the worse he looks and his attacker will lie at every turn.
Check out the sight I gave you. IF laws can't be made then maybe you can round up some experts and make it a topic on your show to raise awareness because I am tired of turning on the news and seeing how someone has lost it and shot a bunch of people after being terminated from their jobs. The American People need your help on this issue! People have got to learn more about it.
There was a case a few months ago where a guy went on a shooting spree through a town then returned to his last place of work and blew his brains out. Why go there to blow his brains out? Why....
Maybe it had something to do with psych-harassment tactics.
Get some experts and do a show on this one please.

I don't think Bill Maher tears down religion but he makes fun of it. Seems like it's the only thing people can't make fun of. Why? I personally, think it's quite funny and I also think some religions do very good work helping people etc. Many of my close friends are religious; they have faith and do good things, but hey so do Agnostics and Athiests, but many religious people think if you're NOT in an organized religion, you must not be a good person. Surprise - Agnostics & Ahtiests also have morals, help other people, are good people, but their behavious comes from a different place. Religions do like to tell people they KNOW all the answers - they do it all the time. They don't, and neither do Agnostics or Athiests - that's what Bill is saying.
