Defeating Evil

On Friday night's Real Time, Craig Ferguson was not following an analogy I made, and he's an exceptionally bright guy, so maybe it was me and here's agood place to expatiate, unless that's what makes you go blind.

I was trying to make a point about something that's been bugging me lately, which is the way the Afgan war has become the good, smart war that nobody questions - sure, the Republicans were stupid to go into Iraq, THEIR war, but Obama's idea to add troops and have a surge in Afghanistan, that nobody questions. Can't we at least have a debate about this? I know in America wehave to have SOME war going, you can't say you're against war, that makes you a wimp. But on the campaign trail, Obama used to say he didn't want tojust end the Iraq war, he wanted to change the mindset that got us into such a war - that's the kind of thing that made me really like him.

But at the convention, it was "Obama wants to send two more brigades to Afghanistan! Hurrah!" Yes, Afghanistan is where Al Queada really is, but we're not going to beable to kill all of them, and new ones are being born every minute, especially every time we bomb civilians. And bin Laden is in Pakistan, and we're not going to invade Pakistan to get him, so what's the plan? And theanalogy I was making was with gangs in America. In the analogy, they're the terrorists. Of course the gangs in L.A. would like to rampage through Malibu, just as Al Quadea would like to knock down more of our buildings, but Malibu takes measures to ensure they wouldn't be successful if they tried it. No one feels the need to send the Malibu police into South Centraland arrest or kill every gang member; that would be impossible. As is the idea that we can kill or capture every "terrorist." And it is possible tobring gang members into society, and terrorists, too.

But this is a country where millions cheered when Rick Warren asked McCain what to do about evil, and he said "Defeat it."

You could wipe out evil by the end of your first term, Senator, or would it take two?

Unfortunately, Republicans are the only ones who can see "evil", like Rowdy Roddy Piper in They Live.

Two things..
Where are the transcripts on this fancy new website of yours?
And yes, I understand the meaning of the word "comment". But I want the transcripts back more than I want to follow the polite rules of commenting on blogs.

I winced when Obama made the Afghanistan comment. Why can't we get all our people back home and concentrate on fixing the myriad problems we face here? My husband and I were Hillary supporters mainly because of the health insurance issue. We are both 53 and for the first time in our lives are uninsured. It is terrifying to be at this stage in life and know that any major illness or accident could wipe out our savings and any hope of retirement. I have moved allegiance to Obama and will do what I can to help him get elected, but man, I am worried...

Hey Bill! I was wondering if you'd consider having Amy Goodman from "Democracy Now" on your show. She and her crew were arrested in Minn/St. Paul yesterday and she has some interesting footage plus interviews to share...

If possible, please give them and their story a little time on your show. Thank you!

honestly, i don't think a presidential candidate these days can win an election if they on a pacifist platform. the overall reaction would be, "this candidate doesn't care about our troops/winning the war on terrorism". the "war on terror" is about as winnable as the "war" on drugs...you're analogy was brilliant to those of us who got it the first time.

i think - or hope, rather - that if obama's elected, he'll have a different take on what to do in afghanistan. and lest we forget, that rick warren is a pastor, and john mccain a representative of the socially conservative "moral majority"...evil is ultimately defined in a biblical sense. and for that reason, i leave you with some clarity i gained from george carlin himself:

"do you believe in god?"..."no"...*boom* dead..."do you believe in god?"..."yes"..."do you believe in MY god?"..."no"...*boom* dead..."MY god has a bigger dick than YOUR god!"

A surge in Afghanistan is not the only way this country will win hearts and minds and defeat terrorism. I think that it is important to pressure the Pakistan Government to police their border territories that allow terrorists to flow into Afghanistan. It is also important to give more aid to building an economic infrastructure and help the Afghans build schools.

We can not do this alone. They have to want it as well. Soldiers are needed there to protect these programs, but I think Pakistan has a larger responsibility to ensure stability in the region. Historically Pakistan supported the Taliban because of its on going relations with India. We need to make it worth while to Pakistan so it can help stabilize both their country and the region as a whole.

Bill I am disappointed. I have watched Real Time religiously and have been a big fan yours. Mainly I have been a fan of your balanced approach to the political issues on the table. After your sabbatical for "Religulous" promotions, you have become nothing more than Anne Coulter's opposite as a typical machine cheerleader for the left. Mccain voted against the GI Bill (giving a full ride to Iraqi war vets) as well as the Energy Bill because both were laced with pork. But you frame the argument on your show just like biased liberals. I used to be fan.

Bill,

Don't YOU understand that it's the 10-15% middle of the road, wishy-washy, can't make up their feeble minds, that are in play here? This is election time and Obama probably has no more intention of surging in Afghanistan that McPain has of making it hard on big oil or searching for alternative fuel sources or helping the environment. Remember dubya said all the same get elected things in 2000. My bigger question is why the media, that you are a part of, quit using words like slum and smog. Is it just because their corporate masters don't allow them to even report on those issues. I have been alive enough to see and breathe the 60's smog in LA and I can tell you that today it is just as bad in St. Louis. It doesn't matter what Obama has to say to get in, he will do the right thing once he is elected. McPain will say anything as well. If he gets in he will surely do the wrong thing.

McCain wants to defeat "Evil"...
He fought in Viet Nam, a war we lost!
He spent most of his time in a prison camp. Following this to a logical conclusion:
McCain is capable of being "Commander in Chief" of a prison camp in a losing
war. Enough of this "war hero", being a quality necessary in a presidential candidate.

PJK82 said...

If McCain really wants to defeat "Evil", he better start beating the shit out of the super-conservative evangelical "Christians" he's running around with so much. Using your position of power to try and influence how others should think and live their lives is just about as evil as it gets.

On another note, I was just watching part of the RNC (because I needed a good laugh). I find it very hypocritical how all these right wingers and evangelicals are so supportive of "unwed mothers" now. Does anyone else remember when Britney Spears little sister got pregnant?(dunno her name but I could give two shits)

There was an uproar about how evil, immoral, and a bad influence she was, and that she would go to hell etc. All of the sudden Sarah Palins' 17 year old daughter shows up pregnant and unwed and the evangelicals' suddenly have a change of heart.

Where was their compassion for this other girl when she was in a bad situation. Oh, I forgot, they only follow Jesus' teachings when it's in their own best interests.

If Palin, an evangelical (the people who love controlling others lives) can't even keep her own teenage daughters legs closed, she's obviously not very good at what she does. By the way, I thought unwed evangelicals only fucked in the ass. When did this vaginal sex bullshit start???

My 2 cents.

By the way, I love the show Bill glad to have you back. We were in desperate need of something to actually look forward to watching each week; also can't wait for Religilous. Keep doing what you do.

I get the whole Malibu analogy. If we are prepared right where we are we don't need to go into their territory and "follow them to the gates of hell". We had our chance to get Bin Laden... and we went into Iraq. I am not saying that these men shouldn't be held accountable for what they did but at what cost to us? We are not just going to sweep through and call it a victory on terrorism. This is an ideology we are fighting. There will be someone to replace whoever we kill. We give "terrorism" waaaay too much attention which in a weird way makes them more powerful. We have plenty of domestic problems that affect us much more personally day to day. And being against war isn't being wimpy. The decision shouldn't be made lightly. It should be THE last resort. These guys act lately like they are sitting at a table playing RISK. And it makes me sick.

kas said...

I'll borrow from McCain's sing-song oratorical method: Our fight w the terrorists should be covert, covert, covert.
Chasing Bin Laden to the gates of hell, like some knight in a Durer woodblock print, is bluster, bluster, bluster.
Afghanistan is a thought in the right direction, but I want operatives busy with the kind of stuff I will never hear about until way after the fact. Problem is, our mighty military mentality is mired in pomp and circumstance (and profit) --- it's a 21st century strategic equivalent to gentlemen in bright red coats standing in rows and shooting over each others' heads. We need to protect our country and we need to fight selectively at their level.

Varix said...

I understand your point about Malibu and terrorist I don’t think that we can simply protect ourselves via security. However I do agree that the war in Afghanistan has become the good just war. We do need to have a debate about how we can effectively solve the terrorist issue. War and security are about all we have tired how about not involving ourselves with other people’s business.

We saw a copy of this quote in a gallery window and were taken aback by its source. I did a search and confirmed it. A reminder of the times we live in and that every time history repeats itself the price goes up.

"Naturally, the common people don't want war....That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy or a fascist dictatorship or a Parliament or a Communist dictatorship. ...voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same way in any country.

The Repubs are chanting that McCain reaches across party lines. Could he have flopped more flippantly than his choice of VP, a maniac female who aligned herself with a party promoting the secession of Alaska before infiltrating US politics? There is plenty of evidence that she is way worse than Cheney, courtesy of wonkette, and pictures speak louder than words:

http://wonkette.com/402464/a-childrens-treasury-of-random-photos-of-sarah-palin-or-the-rnc

With all this ammunition, this is the cue for the Obama campaign to give us a taste of our ‘can do’ talent and neutralize her with the same finesse that Gustav squelched the opening of the Repub convention. Full of sympathy for their tormentor, the whole party graciously took off their Republican hats and put on their American hats. Although I would have preferred to see Hillary debate Sarah, we now have the opportunity to politely blow off their Republican hats permanently.

Bill, thanks for bringing up the fact that we don’t need to pursue the war in Afghanistan. It feels good to hear this in mainstream media, although I agree with irishlemon that the aggressive stance is a necessity. In my optimistic view, the democrats are toeing the line until the veil is lifted.

What can you expect from a country that believes celebrity and money are more important than ethics and people? Come on, there is more respect for Pac-Man Jones then there is for Jonas Salk (and the majority of people in this country couldn't tell you who Jonas was anyway; Education? who needs it when I can get an I-pod). As for our "celebrities"....some have made it with talent and hard work but far too many made it by coming out of the right birth canal.

Money? It's our true God! Even the pseudo-churches, mosques and temples are constantly demanding it from those who can't afford it in order to buy new goodies like television stations to broadcast "the word" and moving lights that make Vegas look backward (guess "God" is broke, huh?/ Damn Bush economics!).

The Republic is dead!! Long live the Empire! Enjoy it while it lasts. Party hard and ignore the lies...Attack the weak and worship the wealthy! Corporations first!!!! Never question our Saudi controlled leaders... Hell, it worked for Imperial China and Rome (just stay out of German forests and put down the opium pipe)...

No WMD scare. No surge strategy. No war(s).

NEW RULE: The press has to start photographing McCain in the foreground, or Palin gets to rune as the PRESIDENTIAL candidate.

Orrie said...

NEW RULE: the Repugnicans have to unpack meaningless phrases like "executive decision making" or explain why McCain, who's a senator too, isn't an executive (and never made any decisions).

Orrie said...

NEW RULE: if Repugnicans get to label as "sexist" anyone who challenges Palin's qualifications, then anyone who challenges Obama has to be labelled a "racist".

Orrie said...

NEW RULE: If Sara Palin can't stand the scrutiny of being the VP candidate, you don't get to refer to her all the time as "Barracuda". No self-respecting barracuda would whine so much. This isn't the playground, where a girl can kick the shit out of a boy, and get a way with it, while the boy gets detention for shoving her. She's supposed to be tough, and smart, and capable. So why are you protecting her so damned much?

Orrie said...

NEW RULE: We'll believe that Repugnicans have a monopoly on patriotism if John McCain jumps off of a bridge and rescues someone trapped underwater in a car.

NEW RULE: If you're going to sell your soul to image politicking, and use Karl Rove's playbook verbatim, you have to put him back on your payroll.

Orrie said...

NEW RULE: If you're going to use the slogan "Country First" you should at least admit that it's recycled Reaganism (standing behind America). You should also admit that it's because it's much easier to screw us from behind and keep us in the dark about what you're doing.

Orrie said...

NEW RULE: If you're going to choose someone solely because they're a woman, they're pretty, they're photogenic, and they shore up your gun-toting anti-abortionist religious right voting block, you should at least admit you're being sexist. Go on. You know you are.

Why is it that Bush, who went to Princeton and was a cheerleader for God's sake, isn't elitist? Do people think that Daddy's money and position didn't get little George a safe stateside guard slot? Do they think that military people are allowed to change duty stations just because they want to support someone's campaign? That they are allowed extended leave of absence (actually, being AWOL in this case) so they can campaign?

Orrie said...

Folks, the Karl Rove playbook is in full operation now. We're going to be treated to spin that will dry your clothes, it's so fast. Plan on many, many more neat phrase packages that imply good about Palin and McCain, and bad about Biden and Obama, without EVER getting any explanation about what the hell they mean, or what they are referring to. "Executive decision making" is just one of the best examples of many to follow. The voters will be treated to helping after helping of candy coated bullshit, and expected to not only chow down on it, but to like it and act like it was their idea. Get your anti-nausea meds, folks. It's gonna be a bumpy ride for the next eight weeks.

If ever there was a doubt about whether McCain is "more of the same", all we need to do is look at the tripe trotted out at the RNC. "We'll be fighting in the streets
With our children at our feet
And the morals that they worship will be gone
And the men who spurred us on
Sit in judgement of all wrong
They decide and the shotgun sings the song

I'll tip my hat to the new constitution
Take a bow for the new revolution
Smile and grin at the change all around me
Pick up my guitar and play
Just like yesterday
Then I'll get on my knees and pray
We don't get fooled again"

I believe Obama is supporting the Afghan war because most Western countries are also currently fighting that War.

I'm from Canada and our country is losing soldiers fast. Over here, some are for the war, some are against it, but our mandate is still to stay there until 2011. That said, we can use all the help we can over there and American allies are always grateful for more American soldiers to help us in our battles. I can also assume that any country with troops in Afghanistan feels the same. Making sure our men and women live to come home at the end of 2011 is preeminent.

So if America is serious about improving foreign relations, then continuing to fight in Afghanistan will have that affect with NATO/Western countries. Whether or not this war is a "good" or "evil" war is worthwhile discussion, but is however an internal debate that ought to be had within each individual country.

My opinion is that Obama is preemptively pushing his Afghan support in order to redeem some of America's lost international auctoritas.

Ok Maher, if Palin is the flight attendant, what is Obama? The baggage handler?

What were these presidents before they were presidents?

Carter- Governor
Reagan- Governor
CLINTON- GOVERNOR
Bush- Governor

A governor isn't qualified to run the nation? Last time I checked, a governor has more executive experience than a Junior Senator.

Sarah Palin for VP/President?

Can a tiger disguise his stripes by superimposing dots??? Should McCain replace the two day miracle child? My answer is: It doesn't matter. The uninformed Republican supporter has already chosen to be fooled by whatever foil the Republicans choose to present. Why do I say that? I hesitate to state my opinions because what I say may be construed as too stringent. I imagine that any supporter, whether Republican or Democrat, has undergone an analysis of self to see if it matches their political party’s agenda (whether consciously or subconsciously). And once committed, a Republican is committed for life, because to redefine oneself is arduous.

I hesitate to delineate the existing difference between the Republican and Democrat leaders. I, myself, see a clear delineation between the two parties. And, I am writing in as a matter of opinion.

The Republicans chose to introduce to the mainstream media their vice-presidential candidate on the very day that storm Gustave hit? Why so close to the Obama speech? Why contiguous to the storm? I think, because the Republicans had to react to Obama’s commanding presence; the storm be damned.

History already dictates that the vice-president has a one in three chance of becoming President without ever having to be elected (according to CBC News). The chances that Palin becomes President are substantially increased due to McCain’s age (72 years-old) and poor health (cancer).

Americans then should ask themselves whether they want Sarah Palin to be their President.

I think the public has the answer.

Sarah Palin wants us to believe that she is a "hockey mom". I think a more accurate look into the character of Palin is the following:

Overseeing the Alaska Dept. of Fish & Wildlife, they have killed over 800 wolves using aerial shooting from aircraft--a horribly cruel process that involves chasing wolves until they are totally exhausted, and then either shooting them from the air or landing and shooting the collapsed animal at point blank range! If that isn't bad enough, go to Defenders of Wildlife's site and read about how just a few weeks ago the Alaska Dept. of Fish and Wildlife went into a known wolf den and killed 14 pups! They had already killed the pups' parents.
What an unconscionable act!

This, I believe, is a more accurate picture of who this person is--and what she would bring to the second highest office in the United States. That is truly unthinkable!

Tought you all might like to be privy to this information.

Obama's Not Exactly's:

1.) Selma Got Me Born - NOT EXACTLY, your parents felt safe enough to have you in 1961 - Selma had no effect on your birth, as Selma was in 1965. (Google 'Obama Selma' for his full March 4, 2007 speech and articles about its various untruths.)

2.) Father Was A Goat Herder - NOT EXACTLY, he was a privileged, well educated youth, who went on to work with the Kenyan Government.

3.) Father Was A Proud Freedom Fighter - NOT EXACTLY, he was part of one of the most corrupt and violent governments Kenya has ever had.

4.) My Family Has Strong Ties To African Freedom - NOT EXACTLY, your cousin Raila Odinga has created mass violence in attempting to overturn a legitimate election in 2007, in Kenya. It is the first widespread violence in decades. The current government is pro-American but Odinga wants to overthrow it and establish Muslim Sharia law. Your half-brother, Abongo Obama, is Odinga's follower. You interrupted your New Hampshire campaigning to speak to Odinga on the phone. Check out the following link for verification of that....and for more.
Obama's cousin Odinga in Kenya ran for president and tried to get Sharia muslim law in place there. When Odinga lost the elections, his followers have burned Christians' homes and then burned men, women and children alive in a Christian church where they took shelter.. Obama SUPPORTED his cousin before the election process here started. Google Obama and Odinga and see what you get. No one wants to know the truth.

5.) My Grandmother Has Always Been A Christian - NOT EXACTLY, she does her daily Salat prayers at 5am according to her own interviews. Not to mention, Christianity wouldn't allow her to have been one of 14 wives to 1 man.

6.) My Name is African Swahili - NOT EXACTLY, your name is Arabic and 'Baraka' (from which Barack came) means 'blessed' in that language. Hussein is also Arabic and so is Obama.
Barack Hussein Obama is not half black. If elected, he would be the first Arab-American President, not the first black President. Barack Hussein Obama is 50% Caucasian from his mother's side and 43.75% Arabic and 6.25% African Negro from his father's side. While Barack Hussein Obama's father was from Kenya, his father's family was mainly Arabs.. Barack Hussein Obama's father was only 12.5% African Negro and 87.5% Arab (his father's birth certificate even states he's Arab, not African Negro). From....and for more....go to.....

7.) I Never Practiced Islam - NOT EXACTLY, you practiced it daily at school, where you were registered as a Muslim and kept that faith for 31 years, until your wife made you change, so you could run for office.
4-3-08 Article 'Obama was 'quite religious in Islam'' http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.view&pageId=60559

8.) My School In Indonesia Was Christian - NOT EXACTLY, you were registered as Muslim there and got in trouble in Koranic Studies for making faces (check your own book).
February 28, 2008. Kristoff from the New York Times a year ago: Mr. Obama recalled the opening lines of the Arabic call to prayer, reciting them with a first-rate accent. In a remark that seemed delightfully uncalculated (it'll give Alabama voters heart attacks), Mr. Obama described the call to prayer as 'one of the prettiest sounds on Earth at sunset.' This is just one example of what Pamela is talking about when she says 'Obama's narrative is being altered, enhanced and manipulated to whitewash troubling facts.'

9.) I Was Fluent In Indonesian - NOT EXACTLY, not one teacher says you could speak the language.

10.) Because I Lived In Indonesia, I Have More Foreign Experience - NOT EXACTLY, you were there from the ages of 6 to 10, and couldn't even speak the language. What did you learn, how to study the Koran and watch cartoons.

11.) I Am Stronger On Foreign Affairs - NOT EXACTLY, except for Africa (surprise) and the Middle East (bigger surprise), you have never been anywhere else on the planet and thus have NO experience with our closest allies.

12.) I Blame My Early Drug Use On Ethnic Confusion - NOT EXACTLY, you were quite content in high school to be Barry Obama, no mention of Kenya and no mention of struggle to identify - your classmates said you were just fine.

13.)An Ebony Article Moved Me To Run For Office - NOT EXACTLY, Ebony has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist.

14.) A Life Magazine Article Changed My Outlook On Life - NOT EXACTLY, Life has yet to find the article you mention in your book. It doesn't, and never did, exist.

15.) I Won't Run On A National Ticket In '08 - NOT EXACTLY, here you are, despite saying, live on TV, that you would not have enough experience by then, and you are all about having experience first.

16.) Voting 'Present' is Common In Illinois Senate - NOT EXACTLY, they are common for YOU, but not many others have 130 NO VOTES.

17.) Oops, I Miss-Voted - NOT EXACTLY, only when caught by church groups and Democrats, did you beg to change your miss-vote.

18.) I Was A Professor Of Law - NOT EXACTLY, you were a senior lecturer -ON LEAVE.

19.) I Was A Constitutional Lawyer - NOT EXACTLY, you were a senior lecturer -ON LEAVE.

20.) Without Me, There Would Be No Ethics Bill - NOT EXACTLY, you didn't write it, introduce it, change it, or create it.

21.) The Ethics Bill Was Hard To Pass - NOT EXACTLY, it took just 14 days from start to finish.

22.) I Wrote A Tough Nuclear Bill - NOT EXACTLY, your bill was rejected by your own party for its pandering and lack of all regulation - mainly because of your Nuclear donor, Exelon, from which David Axelrod came.

23.) I Have Released My State Records - NOT EXACTLY, as of March, 2008, state bills you sponsored or voted for have yet to be released, exposing all the special interests pork hidden within.

24.) I Took On The Asbestos Altgeld Gardens Mess - NOT EXACTLY, you were part of a large group of people who remedied Altgeld Gardens. You failed to mention anyone else but yourself, in your books.

25.) My Economics Bill Will Help America - NOT EXACTLY, your 111 economic policies were just combined into a proposal which lost 99-0, and even YOU voted against your own bill.

26.) I Have Been A Bold Leader In Illinois - NOT EXACTLY, even your own supporters claim to have not seen BOLD action on your part.

27.) I Passed 26 Of My Own Bills In One Year - NOT EXACTLY, they were not YOUR bills, but rather handed to you, after their creation by a fellow Senator, to assist you in a future bid for higher off ice.

28.) No One on my campaign contacted Canada about NAFTA - NOT EXACTLY, the Canadian Government issued the names and a memo of the conversation your campaign had with them.

29.) I Am Tough On Terrorism - NOT EXACTLY, you missed the Iran Resolution vote on terrorism and your good friend Ali Abunimah supports the destruction off Israel.

30.) I Want All Votes To Count - NOT EXACTLY, you said let the delegates decide.

31.) I Want Americans To Decide - NOT EXACTLY, you prefer caucuses that limit the vote, confuse the voters, force a public vote, and only operate during small windows of time.

32.) I passed 900 Bills in the State Senate - NOT EXACTLY, you passed 26, most of which you didn't write yourself.

33.) I Believe In Fairness, Not Tactics - NOT EXACTLY, you used tactics to eliminate Alice Palmer from running against you.

34.) I Don't Take PAC Money - NOT EXACTLY, you take loads of it.

35.) I don't Have Lobbyists - NOT EXACTLY, you have over 47 lobbyists, and counting.

36.) My Campaign Had Nothing To Do With The 1984 Ad - NOT EXACTLY, your own campaign worker made the ad on his Apple in one afternoon.

37.) I Have Always Been Against Iraq - NOT EXACTLY, you weren't in office to vote against it AND you have voted to fund it every single time.

But in response to the act of terrorism we do what? Invade the WRONG COUNTRY and start making more terrorists.

Someday, future generations will look back on us and say.

When Bush-Cheney cut and ran from fighting terrorism there in order to implement the brilliant strategy of invading Iraq, that left NATO soldiers(at least those nations willing to go where the fighting is) to die there. And dying is what they've been doing for five years now. So US - bring it on.

But then I don't get to say anything, do I? Because I'm not an American.

NEW RULE: If Americans insist that the rest of the world has no business in criticizing the US government or it's policies, or those who elect them, then America can't call its President the "Leader of the Free World." You don't get the title without the responsiblity.

Republican Family Values

I lay awake for hours last nite thinking about this:

RE: Sarah Palin & Child

1) Politicians say it's not right to "go after" family members, but how can this situation with Palin and Her Baby be Ignored?!?
Isn't it a Republican "Core Family Value" that Mothers don't Abandon their Children? Isn't that THE Core Family Value?!?
To raise the bar even higher; Isn't the Madonna & Child a Primary Christian Tenet?!? They can't have their Morals and Flaunt them too!

Imagine if Pontius Pilate offered Mary a Government Job;
"Sitteth at my Right Hand Mary, and you'll have Great Power and more Pieces of Silver than you can count!"
"But what about Baby Jesus?" Mary asks.
"Hell, carpentry doesn't pay much, and your the big bread winner now, get Papa Joe to stay home & watch the Brat."

And what was the name of that Sacred Nanny in the Bible? Saint Poppins?
(Holy Au Pair, Babysitting Angel, etc.)

The Dichotomy between the Republican Moral Attitude toward Poor Welfare Mothers and the Rich Elite is Quite a Contrast. Morality just applies to the Poor, those on the Highest Rung of the Social Order can do "Whatever's Necessary" to Rule.

Let's stick this Phony "Holier Than Thou" Rhetoric up the Collective Republican Asses! Whoops, can't use that line, the Democrats are the "Asses". Let's Stick It Up Their Elephant!!!!

2) Create a Viral Video; Remember the one that shows the elephant poop scooper that got his head stuck in the elephants ass? [www.youtube.com/watch?v=T3jz_BnjUNc] Use Adobe After Effects to insert McCain and splice together McCain's own words to say something like: "Wow, this must be the Dark Side! Where did those Core Family Values go?"

Bill, I'm sure your thinking along similar lines, just hope I can contribute a little!

Love Ya!

Bill, you've been killing it with all the Governor Palin MILF material! I was hoping you could be a little biased and hit the democratic ticket a little.

Have you heard these?

Joe Biden's first wife and three month old daughter died in car crash. Ted Kennedy was driving!!!

Gov. Palin offered at least one apparent ad-lib during the speech: "The difference between a hockey mom and a pit bull?" "Lipstick." Today even Michael Vick thinks Obama is Governor Palin's bitch. Rumor has it she's already laying 3-1 odds at Leavenworth.

I'm into that said...

Every network is controlled by a corporation which tells us how to think, what to buy and who to vote for. Bill Maher works for HBO. He is no exception. Obama, Biden, McCain, Palin, Hillary, Gore, T Boone Pickens...etc they're all the same. The future is China, Exxon Mobil, WalMart, and Google.

Paddy Chayefsky, the writer of the film Network, captured what is happening to the United States in 1976. Every American should be required to see this film.

Arthur Jensen: [bellowing] You have meddled with the primal forces of nature, Mr. Beale, and I won't have it! Is that clear? You think you've merely stopped a business deal. That is not the case! The Arabs have taken billions of dollars out of this country, and now they must put it back! It is ebb and flow, tidal gravity! It is ecological balance! You are an old man who thinks in terms of nations and peoples. There are no nations. There are no peoples. There are no Russians. There are no Arabs. There are no third worlds. There is no West. There is only one holistic system of systems, one vast and immane, interwoven, interacting, multivariate, multinational dominion of dollars. Petro-dollars, electro-dollars, multi-dollars, reichmarks, rins, rubles, pounds, and shekels. It is the international system of currency which determines the totality of life on this planet. That is the natural order of things today. That is the atomic and subatomic and galactic structure of things today! And YOU have meddled with the primal forces of nature, and YOU...WILL...ATONE!

Arthur Jensen: [calmly] Am I getting through to you, Mr. Beale? You get up on your little twenty-one inch screen and howl about America and democracy. There is no America. There is no democracy. There is only IBM, and ITT, and AT&T, and DuPont, Dow, Union Carbide, and Exxon. Those *are* the nations of the world today. What do you think the Russians talk about in their councils of state, Karl Marx? They get out their linear programming charts, statistical decision theories, minimax solutions, and compute the price-cost probabilities of their transactions and investments, just like we do. We no longer live in a world of nations and ideologies, Mr. Beale. The world is a college of corporations, inexorably determined by the immutable bylaws of business. The world is a business, Mr. Beale. It has been since man crawled out of the slime. And our children will live, Mr. Beale, to see that . . . perfect world . . . in which there's no war or famine, oppression or brutality. One vast and ecumenical holding company, for whom all men will work to serve a common profit, in which all men will hold a share of stock. All necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused. And I have chosen you, Mr. Beale, to preach this evangel.

Howard Beale: Why me?

Arthur Jensen: Because you're on television, dummy. Sixty million people watch you every night of the week, Monday through Friday.

Howard Beale: I have seen the face of God.

Arthur Jensen: You just might be right, Mr. Beale.

New Rule
You can't pick and choose which child to use for campaign and character purposes. One child is a hero because he is going to Iraq. One child is an example of a mother's love and bravery for having a child with down syndrome and one child is an idiot for getting pregnant as a teenage. You can't pick and choose which children are going to stand as testaments to your character. Maybe it is not her daughters fault. Her mother support of abstinence only programs in school and home are to blame.

New Rule -- Republicans and Conservatives Have to Stop Talking about the Liberal Media

Since the 7-7-7 law fell decades ago, it has been legal for one entity to own as many media outlets as possible. And guess who owns most of them -- conservatives and republicans. So shame on the conservatives and republicans for cannibalizing their own for a buck. And shame on them for being cowards, and blaming liberals. Rupert Murdock owns CBS (and numerous other media outlets), go complain to him.

Obama should speak out against the media attention Palin has received, and then put the blame where it belongs -- on republicans and conervatives whose desire for monetary gain through sensationalism is greater than their tolerance to their own hypocrisy.

Watching the RNC makes me truly believe there is no hope for humanity. People tend to just accept what authority figures have to say as either truth or fact. They never question what they have to say, why? because of certain mental faculties programmed into their brains by religion. Just blind faith that leaders are infallible especially if they co-op the popular regional faith be it islam, judiasm or christianity. It's like their brains shut off, or can't accept that that politicians lie and manipulate. The idea that Sarah Palin could be president, because McCain could die, is just as terrifying as four more years of Bush. I mean she would be a little better but not much. Let's face it she hasn't failed in every job she has every held, in fact she has succeeded but alaska isn't really the U.S. its a whole country away from everyone. And another thing, they are selling her as an antidote to business as usual in washington, but isn't that the biggest load of BS in the world?. The republican party has dominated washington for the last decade so why would they want anything to change? why don't people realize that? and why are there so many hot chicks that are republicans? i don't get it. But then again I never did. And how can palin even question Obama's experience, he is a fricken senator! She's a governor. He is running the country she runs a state thousands of miles away with teeny population. But then again isn't that what the republicans always do. Don't they always turn their personal faults into their opponents faults? Kerry a war hero, became a lying profetier by a draft doger. McCain is as out of touch as my grandpa so they try to paint Obama that way. Palin has no experience so now they are trying to tack that on to obama as well. Well whatever. Bill you're the man, as as you can see much smarter than I am. So let me ask you, will we ever be able to change? or are we doomed?

Party conventions are not the place to have a fight about Afghanistan, Bill. They're where you say why your candidate (in this case, because he was right about Afghanistan) is better than the other party's candidate. You'll notice that Afghanistan hasn't even been MENTIONED at the Republican convention.

There will be plenty of time to debate how "good" the Afgan war is AFTER we help Sen. Obama win the election. In the meantime, you need to trust that he is the same intelligent man that said, "I don't just want to end the war, I want to end the mindset that got us into war", and, "I am not opposed to all wars. I'm opposed to dumb wars."

Sadly, the Obama team has not learned the lessons of the last 8 years. You can't sit back and take the high ground, you need to take the gloves off and give the Republicans a dose of what they've been handing out for the last few campaigns. If they've selected a "pitbull who wears lipstick" then it's time the Democrats got themselves a hungry Doberman.

Instead of Bush/McCain More of the Same, perhaps the new tactic that the Obama/Biden ticket should take is: No Country for Old Men. I don't know about you, but the repition of the POW story is like listening to an old grandad that only remembers Flanders Field or Normandy and can't move on from it. We are not in yesteryear. We are all prisoners of war -- an unnecessary one started by the Republican George W. Bush. And it is a war that we'll be paying dearly for decades. The Republicans have dug an economic hole so deep that what we held dear is now owned by a foreign entity. If this keeps up, we'll go back to being someone's colony, and at this rate, we'll be a territory of China.

Okay...so call me Polar Bear Girl....

I got a lecture from someone I know because I am not supporting McCain and Palin, and how they represesnted American Family Values. This was all before it was known that the daugher was 5 or is it 6 months pregnant. Yep, Palin represents American Family Values...American Trailer Trash Family Values.

How is it that Jamie Lynn Spears Mother's book deal on parenting was cancelled and she was crucified by the religious right. But now Sarah Palin is being held to some other set of standards. Yep, so much for American Family Values.

So Who takes care of the Palin children, obviously NO ONE as the 17 year old daugther got pregnant. DUH...great parenting.

Sorry, but maybe the Pit Bull should have stayed home and taken care of the kids.

What is with the fact that her daughter isn't married?

My bone to pick with Palin that the US Fish and Wildlife Services had 8 reports stating that Polar Bears were endangered, and yet the PIT BULL is so much smater than the scientists working for the USGS and Fish and Wildlife, and smarter than the 3 scientists she hired to review the papers, told her the same thing, polar bears are endangered. But this Enstein, Mensa Level Govenor is suing the US Government to take the Polar Bear off the protected list...Yep Sarah Palin is a Pit Bull who will sink her teeth into anything, just like a Pit Bull; not knowing the real issues or understanding the facts, just going to sink her teeth in...regardless of the facts.

NRA...Kills Animals...Poor Parenting...Husband works for BIG OIL...Wants to drill for oil in the national perserves...Hmmm great choice for VP John....

just a week ago, in the media coverage of the DNC we saw speakers from the podium and with the media who actually looked like my America. They were Hispanic, black, white, Asian, young, older, veterans, wealthy, middle class and struggling Americans. Just a week later, we just finished watching the same media cover the RNC and unless I missed a lot of the coverage, the folks I saw at the podium and speaking with the media were all white - primarily wealthy, white men.

It's pretty clear to me that the republicans aren't interested in appealing to me and my fellow Americans. Their America is quite small, quite exclusive and obviously not in tune and/or interested in dealing with the challenges being faced by the majority of we-the-people. It's kind of scary and reminds me of why I didn't like sci-fi movies as a child - because they didn't have anybody who looked like me in the future.

But even scarier is the fact that the same media that has been talking about and insinuating about race and politics for the past 19 months is NOT SAYING A WORD about the lack of diversity that was clearly visible at the RNC and in their own interviews.

My fellow Americans, demand more reality coverage from your local and national media sources! They are, as John Stewart keeps saying, "hurting America" It's called including with oppression.

it will take a long time for america to understand the war on terror and how it needs to be fought. Maybe we never will. One speech does not a Vice President make. Yea, she gave a good speech, but look at her record on the environment and education. She has cut spending to Special Needs education and other education programs in Alaska. I am surprised Cindy McCain likes her so much, since Cindy used to run a charity/business focusing on special needs education. Did the really VET Palin, or just decide she could parrot what they needed her to do...and so many other issues, as a woman I could never vote for someone who is not Pro Choice.

Do we need a newscaster who is one heart beat away from being the president? Someone who can read a teleprompter...This is NOT Entertainment Tonight. This is NOT some Church bake sale. This is the largest and most powerful country in the world. We have serious problems, we need someone to step up to the plate, not feed from the trough, we have had our 8 years of the Republicans feeding off the wealth of this country...The Pigs are walking on two legs, just like George Orwell's Animal Farm, and the rest of of us are working like the Horse.

My friends in Germany think that this is a joke. Maybe that is not a yard stick, but they the Reality Show quality of this election.

Defeating Evil....

So as long as we focus on "The War" whatever that war really is or whereever it is fought, the focus will be off the real issues in this country. Poverty, Inequality, income disparity, Healthcare, the environment, education, need I go on...

What I am really surprised by is that I saw postings on youtube, which again may not be the yardstick to meaasure the intellagencia of the US, but it was disheartening to see people using the N word to describe Barack Obama, a Harvard Graduate, a Senator, and candiate for the President of the United States.

Probably the person who made this post was some rednecked Hillbilly from the South...perhaps that is "my prejudice" having grown up in the South. There again perhaps this is someone who has been disenfranchised by the educational system, where the lower and middle classes can no longer afford to send their children to college or some technical school and their only option is working at McDonalds or Wallmart, an asking if they will have fries with that or passing out a happy faced sticker.

Bill...no one wants to really defeat evil...there is too much money and too many sound bites that can be made as long as we are "Defeating Evil" some place else in the world and not looking at the "Evil" that surrounds us every day in this country that has redistributed wealth to the top 1 percent of the country.

Perhaps Craig Ferguson didn't get what you were trying to get at, he is only Scottish you know...:)

There again, I don't think that a lot of people understand that foucsing on "Defeating Evil" else where in the world keeps us from focusing on the "Home Grown Evil" we have here in America. Who has done more long term
"Economic Evil" to America, Osama bin Laden operating Al Qaeda from some cave in Pakistan, not Afganistan...those "stans" just keep getting confused; or Bush and Chaney who have fed at the trough and made sure their friends feed at the trough with all the Blackwater and who knows what other deals for bombs and oil. Yes, Osama in Laden masterminded the attack of 911 against the American people, but who is masterminding the attack against the American people for poverty, inequality, income disparity, no healthcare, the environment, education...maybe we should look at "Defeating Evil" at home first.

Why do Republicans sarcasticially ridicule Barack Obama's time as a Community Organizer!
Wikipedia defines community Organization as process by which people are brought together to act in common self-interest. While organizing describes any activity involving people interacting with one another in a formal manner, much community organizing is in the pursuit of a common agenda. Many groups seek populist goals and the ideal of participatory democracy. Community organizers create social movements by building a base of concerned people, mobilizing these community members to act, and developing leadership from and relationships among the people involved.
Is there anything more noble or Patriotic than fighting for the rights of the poor and impoverished of your own country! Is it not Patriotic to help Steel Workers that job were just outsourced by the same FAT CATS that were cheering at the blood lust of Sarah Palin, Rudy Giuliani and Fred Thompson's vitriolic speeches. Obama helped create Job training and College Preparatory Programs for those people in the hopes that they would rise up from poverty.

The real paradox of Sarah Palin's sarcastic ridiculing of Barack Obama's Community organization experience is this. Sarah Palin and Republican's do not believe leadership comes from Community Organization! This alone shows how out of touch Republicans have become!
Ask anybody in the world to create a list of the greatest leaders in World History and they probably will include these people:

Mahatma Gandhi
Nelson Mandela
Martin Luther King Jr
They might even include these Religious figures:
Jesus Christ
Moses
Muhammad

It would be hard to argue that these people are not leaders. How did these people get their leadership experience? They organized the poor and disenfranchised to achieve a common goal or agenda. Whether it be human rights or Spiritual enlightenment, these LEADERS were Community Organizers!
Barack Obama's acceptance speech was inspiring because it gave a message of hope. I disagree with some pundits that liked the speech because he was hitting McCain back. Sarah Palin's speech was memorable for its Sarcasm, bloodlust and vitriol, feeding the Republican desire for redmeat!
In the end, I believe that true leadership is the inate ability to communicate, command attention, influence and to care about who your leading. Barack Obama has it and McCain/Palin don't.

"Why do Republicans sarcasticially ridicule Barack Obama's time as a Community Organizer!"

Because it shifts the issue away from the fact that they have nominated someone who is one step above the evening news weather girl for political experience. When she was waving her hands around that is what I thought she looked like to me. I did not see a leader of the free world. She has no real leadership experience, who supports the NRA, who supports BIG OIL...it is all smoke and mirrors and about sound bites...They had to go back to her
high school basket ball game to find some leadership quality about her...that is really reaching.

Unfotuantely, those people who put the Bush/Chaney team in charge of the country will probably elect McCain/Palin unless we moblilze everyone we know to vote for Obama/Biden. We have to get out the vote.

I am a registered Republican and not a Demoncrat but I would rather support Obama/Biden than McCain/Palin. In the last 8 years we have not only damaged our economy, but we have also distroyed Iraq and for what? To line the pockets of the FAT CATS with Tax Payer Dollars.

But as I began to write it hit me that what good would that do, I'm sure you have been called them all already. I don't care if this was a comment from either party, it was completely sick that there are not words for it but only feelings of sadness! These types of comments or jokes that come a person that supports either party shows that America is not united but just a set of 2 groups that have no honor or respect for anything but what they can gain for themselves. People with mental retardation live their lives having people making fun and saying mean things to them enough without it being joked about on a program broadcasted across the nation. That doesn't seem like what a American should do to another American, maybe one of the candidates it does not matter who, should have a agenda in their campaign to make all Americans go to classes to relearn how to be Americans to each other first and worry about what makes them laugh later.

Maybe he can take this lesson for himself. I feel the comment he made about Bush's reaction to Gustav was totally inappropriate. When Bush "failed" to respnd to Katrina Bill was right there demanding to know why he wasn't at the seat of authority for that one.

Now Gustav rolls in and Bush is right where everyone said he should have been for KAtrina.

Bills' response? Lambasting him for his "total emergency response for a total non-emergency."

This is why Bill will always be an obvious leftist hack.

As for this entire "We can't beat them so we might as well not even fight them" defeatist attitude, I am so happy none of you are in power. Does this mean that if gang-bangers started taking over your neighborhood you wouldn't even fight back? What would you do? Move or just live in fear.

I am so greatly depressed to see that so many in this country have forgotten that it's better to die like a lion than to live like a sheep.

You are all cowards.

I too am wondering about Palin's claim to be Trig's mother. It occurred to me that if her daughter IS the actual mother, then she would have been 15 years old when she got pregnant. Perhaps the governor was trying to avoid a statutory rape scandal. When was she informed that she was on McCain's short list for VP? It's pretty obvious that she is, and has been, an ambitious politician. If she had an inkling she might be considered, she would have done everything she could to avoid yet another scandal. This is one scary woman.

Message for Obama:

Christian Forgiveness for Bush and Cheney!

What better way to begin the transition from our present dolt politics than with a quick formal "Sense of the Congress" resolution of forgiveness for Bush and Cheney?

Nancy Pelosi could explain that a formal resolution of forgiveness -- long before January 20 -- would be quicker and less distracting than impeachment (degraded as the process is by its abuse against Clinton). It would admit broadcast the guilt of this administration by the voice of the American people. It might also lead to legislation to fix the impeachment process so it can be used the next time it is needed.

Think about it -- a vote against would be against forgiveness -- a vote for would be for forgiveness. Neither suggests innocence. I don't know about a vote to table, but Pelosi can probably figure that out. Maybe many members would stay away for that vote, but a gleeful quorum would surely be on hand.

Suggesting forgiveness by Obama and Biden would keep them securely on the highest road -- following their faith would be a stance welcomed by the faithful and the implicit accusation would be admired around the world. Accusations of partisan vengeance would be stifled unless and until civil charges might be brought a few years down the line when more important reforms will not be hamstrung.

Christian Forgiveness for Bush and Cheney.

Yes, let's talk about Christian Forgiveness. For the unjust and horrible murder of over 3,000 US citizens from 9/11, we have mobilized against a nation, Iraq, that had nothing to do with 9/11.

We as a nation have murder/killed how ever you wish to describe this over 500,000 Iraqis. And we wonder why people hate us. There are now more Iraqi people living outside of Iraq than inside their nation.

In the process we have bankrupted our nation spending over 3 TRILLION. yes ladies and gentlemen, 3 Trillion dollars for a war on made up stories of weapons of mass distruction.

Just one day of the expenses of this war could pay for all the children of the world who currently do not get innoculations for childhood diseass to be innoculated. but I digress...

Let us talk about the War on Terror;if you think it was bad before Iraq then perhaps you should think about this one. In killing the 500,000 people who have died we have probably relatives who would be willing to engage in terrorist activities against the US. So I don't see Iraq or Afghanistan being a solution to the War on Terror. It seems to me we have manufactured more terrorists by our actions than fixing the problem. And who is in Afghanistan again, is this the next feeding trough for the friends of whom ever is in power.

This isn't some Catholic Absolution you are suggesting so Bush and Chaney can get into heaven. You are asking the American people to forgive George Bush and Dick Chaney for murdering 500,000 people for a lie, when there were no weapons of mass distruction.

Think about this if 500,000 Americans has been murdered by a foreign power, what would you do?

You are way off base asking anyone to forgive those two. They should have to face charges for War Crimes just as we did against the Natzis and the Japanese at the end of World War II.

inventor said...

Clydene: You assume my "Chrisian Forgiveness" suggestion implies that they are not guilty. Read it again. Forgiveness is not pardon -- it asserts their guilt -- for all the things you have accurately described. I, and most of the world agree with you.

"Forgive them, Father, for they knew not ..." Whether they actually knew or not can be decided in Obama's first term, but it doesn't matter whether they are quartered and burned, or found to be just ignorant, the process should not stop our government from immediate damage repair.

What you say has been said a million times and it does no good. My suggestion is a trick to get dealing with their seeming awareness of their own evil postponed until the time it takes and the rancor it generates will not consume the good work of the new Democrats -- especially before they take office on January 20.

inventor said...

I should add to the second paragraph that the process involved in deciding the fates of Bush and Cheney should include the design of legislation to make sure that America can never again elect such a rogue, such an incompetent, government.

Inventor: I fully understand your plea for forgiveness and the concepts that surround you asking Mr. Maher to send your plea to Mr. Obama. Having grown up with a mother who was raised in a Southern Foursquare Gospel, Slain in the Spirit, Pentacostal, laying on hands on people Church; I am very familiar with the beiief systems of Christian. And myself started through coversion to Catholicism, but pulled out of that I know about the whole abosolution process too.

However, I guess I have a different take on this entire issue having followed the war we have waged on Iraq from foreign news sources. Our news media is about attractive talking heads spewing forth sanatized news coverage. I suggest that people here learn French or German and read other news sources other of news. It is much worse over there than the population of America has been lead to believe.

Now the concern is how we will "Pull Out" of Iraq. I suggest that everyone go to the Oxfam website and look at the reports there on the conditions in Iraq of those who still live there. 8 Million people need help to get access to basic food and water.

http://www.oxfamamerica.org/newsandpublications/press_releases/archive2007/nearly-a-third-of-iraqis-need-immediate-emergency-help

There are 2 million Iraquis living in tents in Syria in the most deplorable conditions, but they can't return home because there is no home to return to. In many places there is no running water or sewage services and for those who don't understand this, they have nothing to drink and there is shit everywhere. Has this been covered in the nightly news adequqtely so that the American people can understand what "WE" as nation have done to the Iraqui people.

Also the doctors, nurses, and other professinoals who could get to another country have left. Thus there is no infrascture for them to return to in their country.

So in the process of Forgiving Bush and Chaney; Who is going to clean up the mess?

We as a nation are responsible for the deaths of over 500,000 Iraqi men, women and children. We as a nation are responsible for the 2 Million men, women, and children living as refugees. We as a nation are responsible for the reported, 8 million people who are living below our poverty level in Iraq. So if you asked the average Iraqi, if you could find one;Are you better today than you were eight years ago. The answer would be NO. In this process we have created more martyrs and terrorists who want to distroy America.

But haven't Bush and Chaney already started distroying the American economy. When we now have 4 million people who are probably going to loose their homes here in the US. The highest unemployment in recent history.

I am sure that some people believe that Bush and Chaney will answer to a higher authority in the after life; and that is all well and good for them. But for the rest of us, what about answering to their crimes here and now.

And just how different are the Iraqi people. They have the same hopes and fears that Americans do for their lives and their children. Sing once sang...If the Russians love their children too...and the same holds for the Iraqi people...

Our Moto
In God We Trust

Their Moto
God is Great

ONE LAST THING; Bill Maher did not make fun of the baby having down syndrome. He made fun of the baby looking like John Edwards, IT WAS A JOKE! I keep reading this from you people and thinking, you people did not watch the show.

inventor said...

Clydene asks--

"So in the process of Forgiving Bush and Chaney; Who is going to clean up the mess?"

My answer is simple: If we waste time arguing about whether Bush and Cheney are guilty, and what they are guilty of, and if or how they should be punished, then NOBODY will clean up the mess they have made and this country might go down in flames.

I agree with all the things you say, but you haven't said what to do. Let's agree it is all true and figure out what to do about it after the election is over, damage is controlled, and there is time to invent a reasonable solution.

clydene said...

Inventor:
I would hire new "private contactors" who have nothing to do with Blackwater or any other political contributors to go in and build infrastructure, build road, build power plants, build schools. I would give money to OXFAM to go in and get people fed. I would try and get the Peace Corp involved with sending more people in to educate the Iraqi people. I am not sure where their own contribution and ours would meet. They do have oil, but it isn't going to be enough revenue.

OR What role BP, which is British Petroleum will play, who are/were the employers of Sarah Palin's husband. What a coincidence?

BUT you must understand that in the last 80 years either the French or the English have been in charge of Iraq, and BP had the oil lease contracts, so we can't make this look like they are some US Colony. Because then it just looks like a bunch of white people coming in to rule the country again. They already have a history of this.

But is certainly is a cluster F...that Bush and Cheney have gotten us into now ish't it?

That $300,000 outfit could have supported a family of 4 at the poverty level of $21,200 per year, for 14.15 years in America, and 11.32 years in Alaska because of the higher energy costs.

Whoa Woo, way to go Cindy McCain, you have nothing up on Marie Antoinette, for showing us the NEW Let Them Eat Cake outfit. This is a great symbol for our society as 4 million Americans are about to loose their homes and the jobless rate is at an all time high.

Unless Clydene has a $trillion or so to spare, his/her suggestion doesn't help.

It's a political problem that will never be solved if we tie our political system in knots debating what to do about punishing the two most obvious villains. Forgive for now, and come back to it in a year or two when all the facts are out and the worst of the damage has been repaired.

By the way, a Sense of the House resolution does not get in the way of impeachment or, after the election, the bringing of charges under criminal law.

Inventor: While I respect the sentiments of your message, I do not agree with granting Christian Forgiveness to Bush and Cheney.

I don't have a trillion dollars to fix what Bush and Cheney screwed up on the way to the pig trough.

I don't have political influence in Washington DC make anyone pardon Bush and Cheney.

I can however make my voice heard about crimes against humanity they have committed. They have lied to the American people, and if you take it further, they both have lied under oath. The oath they took when they took office to protect and defend the Constitution.

I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. So help me God.

It doesn’t say I will kill hundreds of thousands of people for a lie I will tell to line the pockets of my friends.

AGAIN, we are chasing, albeit unsuccessfully, Osama bin Laden for the deaths of 3,000 Americans, and other terrorist activities he has engaged in.

How do you think we would treat someone who had killed 500,000 Americans? The order of magnitude is staggering.

How should someone be treated who did this?

Amnesty you say? A Pardon? Christian Forgiveness?

I find it hard to forgive the murder of 500,000 men, women and children for a lie. I also find it hard to forgive someone for creating more terrorists who will seek to hurt this country, and that is precisely what Bush and Cheney have done.

Again, getting back to Mr. Maher's original topic, it would not be Defeating Evil to give Bush and Cheney an Pardon for what they have done. Nixon got away with whatever he did with Watergate, which caused a huge moral problem in its day, how would this solve the problem of wrong doing? Punishments need to be meated out so this never happens again.

You insist on missing the point that Christian forgiveness is not a pardon, but a forgiveness of the sins they have committed; it accepts that they have sinned.

Having established their guilt we are free, theologically, morally, legally and practically to move past the arguments about punishment until we have the time to spare -- until we are recovering from the damage they have wrought. Then we can decide whether to quarter and roast them or just jail them for life.

The clothes and jewels that the major actresses wear to the Academy Awards are given to the actors and actresses to wear for free by the designers and jewelers like Van Cleef and Arpels and Harry Winston. Because it is their job to look as good as they can.

Yes, I know what has done with "her" money. I made the comment that the 300,000 dollar out fit could have feed a family of 4 for 14 years so people can be shocked by this. That someone would have this kind of money to spend not only on clothes but to get her husband elected to the Senate and now the White House.

Just for equal time I also blog and called Senator Clinton's office and talked to one of her assitants about how out of touch she was with the common person when she didn't leave the tip for her waitress at the Maid-Rite.

IT wasn't the fact that no tip was left, but the fact that they she and her aids were so out of touch with the needs of a common person and then to lie about it. The Aid I called told me she doesn't carry money anymore, her handler's carry the money for her, how out of touch is that.

I must say that the under-educated right always results in, if you don't like this country, then leave. They always want to subvert the First Amendment on Freedom of Speech.

Perhaps you should read some books instead of getting all your information off of television or the internet.

Bill, you called it when you said "elite is the republican euphemism for uppity negro" during this episode.

Now see how you are vindicated:

US Representative Lynn Westmoreland, a Republican from Georgia, made a very bald appeal to racists to unite against Obama.

Westmoreland was discussing vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin’s speech with reporters outside the House chamber and was asked to compare her with Michelle Obama.

“Just from what little I’ve seen of her and Mr. Obama, Sen. Obama, they’re a member of an elitist-class individual that thinks that they’re uppity,” Westmoreland said.

Obviously you don't agree with any of concepts and ideas put forth by his show Real Time, or his numerous books, and topics he would bring up in his public speaking engagements. Do you honestly think that people who are fans of Bill Maher and his ideas are going to be swayed by your "intellectual" banter and persuasive comments on this blog?

Unlike you, I am not going to tell you to leave. I hope you stay and learn something, because it is obvious that you are in dire of some kind of an education.

Oh, and isn’t it funny that McCain, who has been in the US Senate since 1982, part of the Washington Machine is now the champion against the system.

I never said that our troups were doing it for the money. You need to retract that statement.

Many of them and their wives commented about how they felt when they found out how much the Blackwater Mercenaries were making for 1 day what they made in one month. Even with combat pay, our solders are poorly paid and often get into debt and financial binds.

Why not put our troups first and give them better pay;Oops, well then Cheney and Bush's contributors wouldn't get their time at the pig trough. If anyone has shown disrespect for Our Troups, the military, the Constitution and our Country it is Bush and Cheney. History will not be kind to them when the truth is written.

When this hole Iraq war thing got started and our cuntries decided to go into Iraq, there was, of a lot of controversy in Australia over whether we should follow the US into war. George just happened to be having a weekend off, down at the ranch at the time but that did not stop him doing an impromptu press conference in which he expressed his support for Australia's Prime mini stir, John Howard, who has since been sacked by the people. George 'came out' dressed in his cowboy outfit. And with a ridiculous performance enhanced smile he said 'Yes I support John Howard, sniiiifff. John Howard is a great leader, snoort. We're really greatful to Australia, ssnniiifff'. It was not hard to see that he had just been doing lines out the back immediately before the press conference. He was doing coke as the president. If anyone can find a copy of that report please put it on youtube so the world can see what a hipocritical bigot George the Bush really is. As if we didn't know already.

I apologise to you and others in the South. Of course, not everyone is a racist in the South.

I was born in the South and grew up there;Witnessing all the delightful patterns of racial descrimination. In some cases they are much more open about it in the South than in other areas of the country. There is just a part of the city were all the people of color live and a place where all the people of non-color live. No official walls, official rules, or official signs just people have been socialized to stay out of other areas in a genteel mint julep kind of way.

I had hoped by now it would be different, and perhaps in Raleigh, North Carolina is different.

This situation got the better of me this morning and I am sorry if I offended you, or others from the South, as that was not my intention.

Dear Bill -
Here's an item I think is now little known, but will be widely known soon and EVERYONE should see it. Check out Anne Kilkenny, who has known Gov Palin for a long time and wrote an e-mail to everyone with a laundry list of "dirt" on the Governor.
It has been posted on Washington Independent and that's all the info I have on it.
Check it out.

Bill I love your show and how you tell it like it is. You give people something to think about. So why don't you have someone on the show that can give the facts about Mccains Vietnam experience, go to VIETNAM VETS AGAINST MCCAIN, it will be VERY interesting reading for you. Why hasn't someone in the media brought up the Keating 5? Why has MCCAIN GIVEN UP ON FINDING EVERYTHING HE CAN ABOUT THE MIA/ POWS? Please bring these things out in the open and hopefully shoot him out of the Presidental race, no one else in the media has touched these and someone needs to. Thanks for what you do.

Bill:

I feel your frustration at the Republicans seeming ability control the publics mindset. After years of frustration, like you, I began researching. I found Clear Channel, the largest owner of radio stations in the US, with some 900 stations and headquarted in gool ol' Texas, sits stacked, controlled and ultimately run by over 90% card-carrying Republicans, of the Bob Jones ilk, most if not all, whom contribute to Bush's campaign. They were bought out recently by Bain, formed and headed by Mitt Romney

I researched further breaking down every market in the US in relation to Clear Channel and the highest percentage of their conservative talk radio shows to their overall stations. Not suprisingly, the highest percentage markets or states with the largest percentage of conservative talk radio stations, per overall Clear Channel stations in that market all exist swing states - NH and Iowa topping the list, with Kentucky (borders Ohio), Colorado, Florida and Ohio following. Suprisingly the reddesst states had the fewest or no conservative talk stations!!

Not only is Clear Channel a radio owner, but also an international advertising giant. In advertising, to maximize ones message requires blanketing the message repeatedly as many times as possible, as you know, to drive home the message.

Since Rush Limbaugh began in the late 1980's from Reagans Dereg. of The Fairness Doctrine, the Republicans have successfully been blanketing their sly, seductive propoganda, facism, filth, smears campaign in funny, little forceful personalities on 3 to 4 hours infomercials each day, 5 days a weeks for decades!!!

As soon as Hitler took Power and ably turned a young though struggling Democracy into a Dictatorship by inducing fear and lies to then Pres. Hindenburg (through same pattern as with WMD/Iraq), some of his first orders were to hire a minister of Propoganda. With party opposition legally nixed and the media in control, Hitler gradually controlled the mindset of German's people to the point where even knowing of Concentration Camps and such, didn't offend them, for the Propoganda had them in line believing the "bad, inferior criminals deserve and must pay duly for their crime."

I say this because after researcing Karl Rove and what a true meglomaniac and criminal he is, whom I believe exists a master student of Hitler, though his intent not to commit genocide, just wipe out the Democrats. When everyone says Liberal Radio doesn't work, I don't believe it. Most successfull businesses are modeled after nearly immediately. I know if anyone Liberal radio host spend 3 or 4 hours a day only pointing out faults, conducting personal smears, policy weaknesses ala the same format of Rush, I believe a huge audience would result. (Every time I hear Sara speak I envision a mocking clip of Francis MacDorman character in Fargo following it, over and over and over and over, until like advertising, it sticks!!!! However, not once has "Liberal Radio" followed the successful Rush or Rep. model.

I believe in my heart the Karl Rove Nazi stly Propoganda machine could and probably easily has, though I have not evidence, to infiltrate Arbirton, the flimsly rating process for judging radio show (an awaiting manipulation if one ever existed). If Republicans infiltrated and control that like they succeeded as such with the radio airways, of course liberal radio would never make it.

I can go on forever, buy my bottom line is you would be ideal as a the radio host, like Rush, to balance out the mindless propaganda our people our so unknowingly drunk and seduced with, only representing the Democrat side! Our media is gone, rendered useless and I fear Pres. Washingtons greatest fears of partinshap destruction past its down. Please consider - only Democracy is at stake!!

Would you hire a prospective employee who brings personal drama to their interview?

I mean NO DISRESPECT to anyone; the bible speaks of the simple & foolish ones
(males/females). McCain knows the mind of a simple woman because he went through so many. The adulterer won over Cindy McCain sobbing dramas about his first marriage and spewing lies.

How is a man able to run games on women and become a womanizer? He MAKES
A SIMPLE ONE FEEL PITY for his cause, and he MUST HAVE SOME DRAMA
for a that gullible person to FEEL CONNECTED TO. That’s why I feel McCain wanted
Palin on his team for a VP Puppet position because she is semi-attractive for men to be beguiled by and she has domestic drama that women may connect to.

REMEMBER: Prior to McCain announcing Palin for his VP Puppet, most Americans felt he was NOT CONNECTED with typical Americans. He NEED HILLARY’S VOTERS for a snowball’s chance despite the fact he laughed when a spectator called Hillary the B-word.
McInsane teased the Spears Family for their drama; yet, he brought in a VP Puppet
with worse dramas. At least Jamie Lynn Spears made her own money and had a career.
Pasin daughter has NO PLAN but a shotgun wedding

When a dumb VP puppet compares herself to be a "putbull with lipstick", I hope you know
she isn't doing women justice. What is a female dog??

When a dumb VP puppet coaches her teenage uneducated pregnant daughter to pursue
a wedding ring over higher education and a nice paying job, do you think it is sexist to encourage
young females to be barefoot and pregnant with a wedding ring sexist?

RESPONSIBLE PARENTS aka ADULTS should promote young women aspiring to do better and evolve from stereotypes against women being barefoot & pregnant with no plan but marriage. Palin SHOULD promote for her pregnant teen to pursue higher education over a wedding band. Let the marriage proceed after her daughter obtains a degree and employment; then, the woman isn’t bringing baggage (two dependants). The relationship will have substance; if it didn’t work out, the teen will have independence.

I feel confident that Hillary & Bill Clinton, Michelle & Barack Obama and Jill & Joe Biden would have better wisdom, style and sophistication than to parade a knocked-up teen around the world as an example of their parenthood and aspiring teens worldwide. Nor would they cheer the idea of teenage pregnancy = a road to welfare or domestic violence.

Hey Bill. . . Love your comments about Sarah Palin especially the ones when you referred to her as an airline stewardess and a MILF. Oh, and the one about her being a mayor of a small town. I would like to point out that the majority of the population of the U.S. is from small town America. Great comedy. The republicans will be laughing their asses off come November when they credit you for helping put John McCain in the White House.

Al qaeda is CIA, Bin Ladden is CIA, and by the way, he's already dead. the former candidate Benazir Bhuto said it from Pakistani Inteligence, and because of that she was murdered. By the way: remember in your stand up comedy about Bush standing for 7 minutes? Maybe he already knew? I mean, he said on TWO DIFFERENT ocasions that he saw the FIRST plane hit the north tower! Where did he saw it? For sure it wasn't on any television, was it??? I mean, no television was filming at that point, how could it be? No one knew. But i got to say that for once i believe George Bush, he really DID see the first plane hit the building... perhaps ON THE CIA CAMERA!!!!! Filming at the 23rd floor of 7WTC building, you know? The floor that was a bunker, suposedly to protect mayor Giulianni? The one on the building that went down later that day!! Because of the MASSIVE FIRES and RAGING INFERNOS!! And by the, WTC was one of the largest deposits of gold in the world. Estimates say it was at least one hundred and fifty billions of dollard in gold, and yet, only two hundred million (more or less) is found? And official reports say all the gold is found? For f** sake, IT'S LESS THAN 1%!!!!

If the Gov of Alaska is ready to be VP and a step away from the Presentcy then why is she not meeting with the press, even the right wing channel "FOX" ask the head of McCain's Campa. to get an interview with her since he thought they were fair and ballanced, but he replied that when they think its the right time. I am an independant and I sure am not voting based on a personallity contest, follow up with the speech writter for Pres. Reagan and Bush 1 she was caught on an open mic makeing reference to McCain's pick for VP, it was not favorable to his dicission to say the least. But what are the Repulicans to do, this is what they have and they have to put the best spin on it as they can. The GOV does not impress us, she was for the bridge to no-where to get her foot in the door, then she was against it but she sure kept the money that was earmarked for that project, bottom line she spent the peoples money, our money!

After watching “Real Time with Bill Maher” last Friday night I am more confused than ever about this election. It’s like we are living in a bizzaro political world. The good news is the lid has been blown off of a lot of our stereotypical labels of people.

Consider this: the first black man nominated by a major political party is labeled “elitist” for calling small town Americans “bitter people who cling to their guns” by his rival, the first woman to almost win the Democratic nomination while she swigs whiskey and brags about being a hunter. The first woman to be picked for the Vice Presidency by the Republican nominee, the Governor of Alaska, was once a small town mayor who actually does cling to religion and guns.

The religious right is defending a seventeen year old’s right to get pregnant (the VP pick’s daughter) while the NOW Feminists are questioning whether a woman can run for higher office and raise a family of five (one of which is a special needs four month old.) It’s not enough for the Feminists that a woman is running for VP, she must be a pro-choice candidate to be a true woman. When did issues determine our sex?

The far left blogs accuse the GOP VP pick’s daughter of actually being the mother of that four month old while the mainstream media scrutinize her family and her qualifications for being VP and are accused of sexism by right wing conservative males who said nothing when the Democratic woman nominee was making the same claim.

Meanwhile, throughout this process the African American male nominee has mostly been given a free pass by this same media concerning his past and his qualifications for running for President.

This black man attempting to make history has a gift for oratory and drawing huge crowds while appealing to the young and minorities. Yet, he is mocked by the opposing campaign for being an out of touch, popular celebrity. Since when did charisma and popularity become a bad thing in politics?

We also have in the Republican party, the oldest man to ever seek the Presidency. However, the two older, white males (GOP top spot and Dem. VP)with wisdom and experience that are running are being largely ignored by the media. The Democratic VP nominee was picked to be an attack dog. Now he must go up against a pit bull with lipstick (as she calls herself.)

The Republican nominee who is also a POW war hero and a self proclaimed “maverick” says he will reform Washington after he voted 90% of the time with the unpopular incumbent President for the last eight years.

The Democratic nominee says he will bring change and unite the country although he has little or no experience or record to prove he can do that.

The Democratic National Convention’s themes were party unity and support our nominee.

The Republican National Convention’s themes were party disassociation and attack the Democratic nominee.

What am I, a 56 year old woman, swing voter who is gay, a believer in civil and human rights, feminism, the peace movement and social justice who also comes from a small town, was raised Baptist and believes life begins at conception to do?

I can’t wait for the debates!

Bill,
It made complete sense! The fact is that I support Obama (O'bama, lol) 100% but at times I do feel like we must pick the lesser of two evils when it comes to war talk. My husband is actually preparing to go to Afganistan in a couple weeks, and although he knew what he was getting into joining the military (albeit it was before 9/11) and he wants to believe in what he's doing, after his last deployment he came home perplexed. He admits that HE doesn't even understand the mission at times and we both believe strongly that you cannot "kill" a concept...a belief. I hate to be cynical, but we cannot kill terrorism -- we cannot defeat evil. What we have to do is be Malibu! We have to prepare and organize to protect ourselves where we are at. However, I feel that the American people have been conditioned by fear. I think Obama's goal for HOPE is much better. Ok...I'm done w/ my soapbox.

Dear friends,

So many people have asked me about what I know about Sarah Palin in the
last 2 days that I decided to write something up . . .

Basically, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton have only 2 things in
common: their gender and their good looks. :)

You have my permission to forward this to your friends/email contacts
with my name and email address attached, but please do not post it on
any websites, as there are too many kooks out there . . .

Thanks,
Anne

ABOUT SARAH PALIN

I am a resident of Wasilla , Alaska . I have known Sarah since 1992.
Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a
first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her
father was my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a
first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more
City Council meetings during her administration than about 99% of the
residents of the city.

She is enormously popular; in every way she's like the most popular girl
in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and won't
vote for her can't quit smiling when talking about her because she is a
"babe".

It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She
kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents
for seven months.

She is "pro-life". She recently gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby.
There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.

She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.

She is savvy. She doesn't take positions; she just "puts things out
there" and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.

Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a
champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin's kind of job is highly
sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his work
schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or so in
summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their
major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything
like that of native Alaskans.

Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.

She's smart.

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000
(at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about
670,000 residents.

During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running
this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been
pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had
gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had
given rise to a recall campaign.

Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a "fiscal conservative". During her 6
years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over
33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the City
increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation
(1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a
regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she
promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they
benefited residents.

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration
weren't enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed
money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it
with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage
the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said
she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a
new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a
multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece of
property that the City didn't even have clear title to, that was still
in litigation 7 yrs later--to the delight of the lawyers involved! The
sports complex itself is a nice addition to the community but a huge
money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it would be. She also
supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that could have been done in
5-7 yrs without any borrowing.

While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office
redecorated more than once.

These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.

As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus
in Alaska . Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make
us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she proposed
distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.

In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she
recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while she
proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today's surplus,
borrow for needs.

She's not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas
or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren't generated by her
or her staff. Ideas weren't evaluated on their merits, but on the basis
of who proposed them.

While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected
City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from
the library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents
rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin's attempt
at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew her
termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust the Librarian
are on her enemies list to this day.

Sarah complained about the "old boy's club" when she first ran for
Mayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of "old boys". Palin
fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as
Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people,
creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally
grateful and fiercely loyal--loyal to the point of abusing their power
to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the
case of pressuring the State's top cop (see below).

As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla's Police Chief because he "intimidated"
her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska 's top
cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure and
she had every legal right to fire him, but it's pretty clear that an
important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn't
fire her sister's ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigation
for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen contacts
were made between her staff and family to the person that she later
fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to
replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded
for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew her
support.

She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in
help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town
introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council
became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She
abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn't like
the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.

Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything
publicly about her.

When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got
the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one
of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no
background in oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this great job
which paid $122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the high
salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the structured
hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of this Commission
(who was also the State Chair of the Republican Party)
engaged in unethical behavior on the job. In a gutsy move which some
undoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved all
her problems in one fell swoop: got out of the job she hated and
garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as a
gutsy fighter against the "old boys' club" when she dramatically quit,
exposing this man's ethics violations (for which he was fined).

As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from
Senator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrel
politics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the "bridge to
nowhere" after it became clear that it would be unwise not to.

As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget
guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing
projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative
action restored most of these projects--which had been vetoed simply
because she was not aware of their importance--but with the unobservant
she had gained a reputation as "anti-pork".

She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State party
leaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliated
them. Other members of the party object to her self-description as a
fiscal conservative.

Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah.
They call her "Sarah Barracuda" because of her unbridled ambition and
predatory ruthlessness. Before she became so powerful, very ugly
stories circulated around town about shenanigans she pulled to be made
point guard on the high school basketball team. When Sarah's
mother-in-law, a highly respected member of the community and
experienced manager, ran for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her.

As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of package
of legislation known as "AGIA" that forced the oil companies to march to
the beat of her drum.

Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked to
global warming. She campaigned "as a private citizen" against a state
initiaitive that would have either a) protected salmon streams from
pollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in the
state (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State's
lawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior's decision to list polar bears
as threatened species.

McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be a
heartbeat away from being President.

There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more
knowledgeable and experienced than she.

However, there's a lot of people who have underestimated her and are
regretting it.

Secondly, I've always operated in the belief that "Bad things happen
when good people stay silent". Few people know as much as I do because
few have gone to as many City Council meetings.

Third, I am just a housewife. I don't have a job she can bump me out
of. I don't belong to any organization that she can hurt. But, I am no
fool; she is immensely popular here, and it is likely that this will
cost me somehow in the future: that's life.

Fourth, she has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100
or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah's
attempt at censorship.

Fifth, I looked around and realized that everybody else was afraid to
say anything because they were somehow vulnerable.

CAVEATS
I am not a statistician. I developed the numbers for the increase in
spending & taxation 2 years ago (when Palin was running for Governor)
from information supplied to me by the Finance Director of the City of
Wasilla, and I can't recall exactly what I adjusted for: did I adjust
for inflation? for population increases? Right now, it is impossible
for a private person to get any info out of City Hall--they are
swamped. So I can't verify my numbers.

You may have noticed that there are various numbers circulating for the
population of Wasilla, ranging from my "about 5,000", up to 9,000. The
day Palin's selection was announced a city official told me that the
current population is about 7,000. The official 2000 census count was
5,460. I have used about 5,000 because Palin was Mayor from 1996 to
2002, and the city was growing rapidly in the mid-90's.

Anne, thanks for making a case to limit word count on this blog. Get your own frigging web site!

Bill, I hope you are watching Dog Town: The Michael Vick Dogs on National Geographic. They don't refer to PETA or Vick's girlfriend Ingrid by name....but PETA's call to euthanize the dogs, I assume in exchange for a PR "coup" of making Vick PETA's new spokesperson, has backfired.

These dogs as expected are making great progress.
Keeping them alive and well is a far more powerful way to combat animal abuse than having Ingrid parade in front of a camera like a party clown.

I think you should address this on your show. And see if you can retire Ingrid, maybe with a watch, a nice ceremony, and car full of midgets...oops sorry I meant little people. Let's keep it real.

Bill is an idiot. Why does he think he has the credibilty to make judgements on anyone? As far as Obama? Are you kidding me? He does not know what to do in Afgahnistan because he has no frame of reference nor any military background at all. What is with you people?

Bill,
You are an entertainer. I found it incredible funny when you went into the crowd a couple of weeks ago to throw out some bonehead yelling when you were trying to have a show. What would have been even funnier is if you would have actually made it to the guy and he would have kicked your ass! Seriously, that was very entertaining..and really who cares what Mos Def thinks? Conspiracy theories Bill? C'mon Bill is that the best you can do? Have some competent guests on the show. Thanks

PALIN DID NOTHING TO START THE OIL ROYALITY FUND FOR ALASKA.
BAIT AND SWITCH DECEPTION AGAIN BY REPUKICANS

http://articles.latimes.com/2005/aug/03/local/me-hammond3

Jay Hammond, 83; Former Alaska Gov. Championed Oil-Royalty Fund
August 03, 2005 in print edition B-10

Jay Hammond, a bush pilot and hunting guide who served two terms as governor during the pivotal years that helped define modern Alaska, died Tuesday. He was 83.

Hammond was found in bed by his wife, Bella, in their homestead about 185 miles southwest of Anchorage, according to Alaska State Troopers. He died of natural causes, troopers said.

Hammond, a Republican and a conservationist in a pro-development state, served in the Alaska Legislature for 12 years and was governor from 1975 to 1982.

He oversaw the first flow of oil through the Trans-Alaska Pipeline in 1977 and was a champion of creating the Alaska Permanent Fund, an oil-royalty fund that dispenses annual dividend checks to state residents.

Also during his time in office, federal land reserves grew vastly, fishery stocks revived and Alaska’s broad-based tourism industry was born.

Republican Gov. Frank Murkowski said at a news conference that in Hammond’s death, Alaska had lost a giant who believed in the traditions of the state. He said he valued the friendship and opinions of Hammond, who epitomized “that group that lives on that rugged frontier.”

The son of a Methodist minister, Hammond was born July 21, 1922, in Troy, N.Y., but grew up in Vermont. Hammond briefly attended Penn State University before enlisting in the Marine Corps during World War II and serving as a fighter pilot in the Pacific.

He moved to Alaska in 1946, where he graduated from University of Alaska at Fairbanks and worked as a pilot. It was the first of many jobs, including trapper, wildlife biologist, government hunter, hunting guide, commercial fisherman and later, according to his 1994 autobiography, reluctant politician.

“When it came to politics, as in many other of life’s activities, I preferred to be a loner,” he wrote. “Political power or leadership positions simply didn’t entrance me not because of selfless humility. I simply didn’t want to bear the burdens of hard work and the responsibilities that come with such jobs. Some folks thrive on pressure; I wither.”

After 12 years in the state Legislature, six each in the House and the Senate, Hammond retired in 1972 and resumed life as a Bristol Bay fisherman.

His retirement lasted only two years. In 1974, Hammond defeated former Govs. Walter Hickel and Keith Miller in the Republican primary and upset three-term incumbent Gov. William Egan in the general election by just 220 votes.

He campaigned as a proponent of “healthy growth,” but quickly picked up the derisive nickname “Zero-Growth Hammond” for his opposition to a variety of controversial proposals favored by pro-development forces.

In 1978, Hammond again faced Hickel in the Republican primary. He won by only 98 votes, but racked up a 16,000-vote margin in November.

He said in his autobiography that he ran for the second term to create the permanent fund to keep all the oil wealth generated on the North Slope from being spent by eager politicians. The fund, which pays most Alaskans a much-prized annual dividend, is now worth more than $31 billion.

Even after leaving office, Hammond remained an admired public figure. For years he was the host of a popular TV program, “Jay Hammond’s Alaska.” He stayed in touch with what was happening around the state and rarely hesitated to weigh in on issues.

Hammond is survived by his wife and three children. Murkowski said a private burial service would be held today and a public memorial service would be held at a later date.

Bill,

Please keep up the pressure on Palin. My sister who lives in Alaska is very scared of this woman. My Brother-in-law who is a Republican will not be voting for her, in fact he calls her Hitler.

I do not think having someone in office that attends a church where they speak in tongues is a good thing.

Thank you!

In response to MMATHON:

When you speak of Bill supporting Obama, and Obama not having any frame of reference w/ the war...I'm curious what Bush's frame of reference was and also yours? I think it's fine that someone who doesn't necessarily agree w/ Bill's ideas states their opinions, because I'm always open to seeing "the other side"... but if you're going to make such blatent and blunt comments, I'd like to hear where you're coming from. And if you're so against him, why do you continue to watch? That's like me continually listening to Republican talk radio, and then calling to argue w/ them -- which would be pointless.

Anne,

Thanks for your post about Sarah Palin, I am sure that it was not easy to put your name to that, so I applaud your courage to speak out.

I sent your message to several hundred people tonight on my email groups.

Thanks,

I thought it was ironic that we were watching the republican (small caps for affect) party embrace the illegitimate child from a pairing between a state governor's daughter and the current or eventual tenant of a mobile home park, but then I remembered this is the republican base. That base and unfortunately the majority of this country would even vote for McCain, because he is white, even if it were proven that he was the father of Barrack Obama's daughter's illegitimate child. Everytime I see a segment on the election I have to stop myself from throwing up, as race is not explored, as a factor in the eventual outcome. The reality is if Barrack were white, this race would be over and the republican party would be putting up Ron Paul as a sacrificial lamb. This country has proven itself stupid enough to deserve the outcome it seeks, Armageddon (large caps for affect).

Wake up people once and for all: we, i mean ALL OF US are dealing with crazy people, from secret societies, just make some research: SKELETON AND BONES, IT EXISTS. And these members have their own agenda, they don't care for america anymore. They have Republicans and democrats, and in all major positions, that's why the system is mined. Even the Bushes are! Listen to a speech of John Kenedy regarding secret societies. He didn't go along with them so that was the main reason for him to be murdered.

As a person raised with a diverse religious background, this is not the time to attack Palin because she "speaks in tongues." However, I have a question about McCain and then Palin? There was much talk about McCain's heroism during the Republican Convention. But how heroic was he toward his first family. According to CNN and other sources, he came back from Vietnam to the wife who had waited years for him and who had suffered a tragic accident herself. Then had numerous affairs, the last being with Cindy, his wife and was living with her when he divorced his 1st wife. Where is the hero in all of this? How is this justified by the
Christians(of which I am one)who promote the holier than thou attitude toward McCain and now their leader Palin.
The right is looking for a hero - we all are but where is a person's mind when she believes that Iraq is a God-led war(something we have been trying to avoid saying for years);when she doesn't believe in global warming even though most of us can see it on a daily basis; when she sought out all the millions of earmarks hiring a lobbyist to acquire them for the state of Alaska - I thought her running mate was against this. What was his name? My final point - I could go on with more - I have tried to be factual, but this is what I read - so regarding her expertise in the executive area - as soon as she became mayor in Wasilla she hired a city manager. Why? Because she didn't know how to govern her town.
Finally, going back to McCain, the man who is going to get rid of the lobbyists - wait, isn't he the one who has 7 former lobbyists in his campaign management and the one who had according to the news - 169 lobbyists on the front rows during his speech - did they say excuse me to the women when they took their seats from them from the night before when Palin addressed the convention. You bet your booty!!

I'm glad at least MSNBC finally had the courage to stand up to Olberman and Matthews. We need a sense of some basic objective non bias journalism for once in the media. Even Bill Maher recognized the absurd liberal partisan nonsense towards Barack Obama that has been going on in the media since the primaries. Hillary really got the shaft and thats why the Republicans stuck us with Palin in the first place. The Democrats will be kicking themselves for losing another election once again come November.

Things reached the point where HBO's liberal comic Bill Maher, riffing on MSNBC's coverage of Obama, said: "I mean, these guys were ready to have sex with him."
