Republicans, stop calling Obama elitist

Because the real reason you don't like him is that he's smarter than you.

Sept. 5, 2008 New Rule: Republicans need to stop saying Barack Obama is an elitist, or looks down on rural people, and just admit you don't like him because of something he can't help, something that's a result of the way he was born. Admit it, you're not voting for him because he's smarter than you.

In her acceptance speech, Gov. Sarah Palin accused Obama of using his run for the White House as a "journey of personal discovery" -- this from the lady who just spent 10 minutes of her speech introducing her family -- Track, Trig, Bristol, Piper -- for a minute there I thought she was calling in an airstrike.

Karl Rove described Obama as "the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini, and making snide comments about everyone who passes by." Unlike George Bush, who's the guy at the country club who makes snide comments, and then passes out. Now this characterization, of course, was something Mr. Rove just completely pulled out of his bulbous, gelatinous ass, but remember this is America, a land where people believe anything they hear. One of McCain's ads casts Obama as "the one," implying he thinks he's the Messiah. Good, maybe he can raise McCain from the dead.

It doesn't matter to Karl Rove that his country club characterization is fictitious, it's the role that Obama must play if the party of plutocrats is going to win over the little guy. Over and over at this convention we heard about the new put-upon victim in our society, the person in America, like Sarah Palin, who's constantly mocked because they're from a ... small town! Governor Yup Yup's got 'em all riled up about being disrespected.

Barack Obama can't help it if he's a magna cum laude Harvard grad and you're a Wal-Mart shopper who resurfaces driveways with your brother-in-law. Americans are so narcissistic that our candidates have to be just like us. That's why George Bush is president. And that's where the McCain camp gets its campaign strategy: Paint Obama as cocky and arrogant and wait for America to vote him off, like the black guy in every reality show. A black president? Half of Pennsylvania isn't ready for black quarterbacks. Forget Obama, they think Will Smith needs to be taken down a peg.

And finally: As for "country first," you know who's putting country first? I am, by supporting Obama, because a victory this fall for the McCain-Mooseburger ticket would make my job in the next four years very, very easy.

In the 21st century, white America got a wake-up call after 9/11/01. White America and the western world came to realize that people of color had not gone away, faded into the woodwork or just 'disappeared' as the Great White West kept on its merry way of ignoring black concerns.

Jorge,

That's the point though - she's not a Democratic candidate. She's the spitting image of radical Republican conservative and that's what Democrats do not agree with and that's why she's belittled for her views.

You are also watching a show that is MC'd by a liberal who's a politically aware comic. He's not a pundit so don't watch if you want bipartisan discourse. Actually, that doesn't exist in today's media so we're all screwed!

The negative punches are thrown on both sides by the way. Turn to any Republican broadcast and the tables will turn dramatically.

And tell me, what has Barack Obama done to deserve such harsh words from Sarah Palin (her snide and arrogant comment on his community leadership versus her "executive experience" as governor of a state as big as a single city) and the rest of the GOP machine (lies, lies, lies!!)? The RNC was nothing but mud slinging and silly, immature sarcasm. That's as elite as you get!!

Look up the definition of "liberal" sometime. It's not a bad word.

Sarah Palin and her church believe that the Holy Spirit enters their body and makes them speak in some unknown language. and writhing on the ground. Not any different than I see that people doing Voodom do when they wave chicken over their head. On and we can kill people with brown skin because we are a mission from GOD as Palin pointed out.

Who is crazier, people who believe in this pseudo bull shit magic or people who know things are wrong in the world and try to fix them.

Know you Religious Zealots....Sarah Palin is one of those Crazies.

its called speaking in tongues, and that is where having faith comes in. if you don't have it then you don't get it and if you don't get it then you go to hell. that is faith!

Bill, you supported Dr.Ron Paul the last time I watched your show. I knew if there was one guy who would catch your attention,it would be this man. Then, you stopped completely, and I'm confused. How did you go from the guy who you said was your hero,to the guy who knows about as much as Palin? I'm not jumping down your throat about this, but you like to hammer others who say stupid shit, and I was wondering if you could back up your reasons for going to the guy who wants to raise taxes as much as Mcain. Both candidates are elite morons. They cannot relate to regular people. I'm not talking about small town folk who like to shoot small defenseless animals with huge high powered rifles. Not everybody who lives in small towns hunt, and they sure as shit don't wear cowboy gear all the time. These people watch your show, and believe what you do.Gov horsesass in Alaska, does not represent all people in small towns.People I know in small towns think this war is retarded, they think both Obama and Mcain are not the right guy for the job. Now,come on Bill, you are a very smart man,and you know as well as I do, that neither one of these jerk offs are going to do shit, besides drag us down further. If you think otherwise, then your no different then the press, who have been giving both candidates a pass.Who knows, you may be controlled by some higher power like all the rest. Not being able to say exactly what or how you feel,I don't know. I do know, you would not be going along with a guy who has great speeches, but nothing backing it up. I do not have an (R) beside my name or a (D),or an (I) for that matter. I stopped believeing in this country the day we went to war with Iraq, and nobody, nobody, from the press or you, pressed the White House,or the news media to stop backng this war no matter the facts. I blame the people who had a voice while the others did not. I blame the American people in general, for not having the balls to stand up to a goverment that has gotten to large and out of control,I blame myself. My fear is this, that my children, will not have a free country when they grow up. In my state, they passed a somking ban, making anybody who has THE RIGHT, to smoke,a second class citizen.I write to people like you and my state rep,and my gov,or my sentor, and I never get any responce, well I expect that you will not read this, and even if you did, you would disregard me as so many do. I love people who talk outside the box,and that's why I love your show, but when you start lumping yourself with these people, who have no real answers, just talking points,it disappoints me.Your better then that,at least I hope so.

angel72 said...

you are right this country will not be free for very long. ALL great countries have fallen, look at the history. but as an american soldier i am going to back up this country with whatever it takes even if it means going to war, i am sure a lot of the wwII people did not like the war but sometimes it is a necessary evil!

Lillith Me said...

so MP2008

that is your problem, you've been talking to the Holy Spirit and speaking in tongues. maybe you hit you head last time you writhed on the ground.

your GOD is so successful because you know there are more muslims than any other religion on this planet.

Yeah, you people in the south like killing people with brown skin. You guys still think saying GOD's will makes it all better. You are so full of bull shit.

MP2008 said...

You guys crack me up!

Oh,I'm not Assembly of God but I just hit my head writhing on the ground from laughing.

angel72 said...

acutally i have never spoken in tongues

it does not really bother me that according to you there are more muslims than Christians, once again that is where MY faith comes in

and i am a person of "brown" skin so no i don't like to kill people of brown skin. in fact i have never killed anyone personally

and YOU people are the ones i feel sorry for

dang, must be all that speaking in tongues that you guys do. gotta be nice that you get so much insight.

yeah, if you haven't noticed since WWII we have only made war and killed people with brown skin. isn't that funny?

angel72 said...

calling walmart the antichrist was me being funny, trust me us Christians know better, but if you have not noticed all the wrongs that they are doing to our own american people and to people abroad then you really are blind

like i said before i guess you don't read, i have never spoken in tongues but anyway

i don't really have the power to choose who we go to war or who we don't but once again, being of brown skin myself i can't really say i have personally hurt or killed someone of the my same color skin

and since i was just on this site to see what the enemy is talking about, i am going to go about my business since some of us do really have a job and now i have to continue doing reasearch for my job

and in case you have not noticed, the reason that the economy is so bad now is because of the democratic congress, but i guess you being a stay at home what ever you are, you probably don't have much insight of the outside world

Lillith Me said...

democratic congress has only been in power for 2 years. one real budgetary round.

Grow up and find inner peace and stop using politics to promote or lambast a religion. Save it for your church going.

Every time I think I have seen the absolute apex of the American electorate's stupidity, I am unpleasantly surprised to see it hit even higher. We have got to be the only country in the world that elects its highest officials based on wanting to have a beer with them or whether they too have to drive their five kids to soccer - oh, excuse me, hockey practice. Voting for someone because they're "just like me!" is not only simplistic, it's just plain stupid. I don't think I'm qualified to be president or vice president, so why would I assume someone just like myself to be? We have been electing officials based on personality - or, to borrow a phrase from the McShame campaign, "celebrity" - for far too long in this country. Our ignorance of the issues landed us two terms of a president who didn't know his ass from his insurgency-riven Middle Eastern countries, who subscribed to the ignorant and greedy social and economic philosophies that have brought us the worst economic meltdown since the Great Depression. And still, we haven't learned.

What will it take for us to figure it out? The end of society as we know it?

Your coming to my state and doing your act in Upper Darby PA,and I'm sure your not going to say shit about how red-neck our state is then. I love your show dude, and you turned me off when you start talking from the left side of your mouth. I get it,your a liberal, who doesn't believe in god or the holy ghost or any of that crap, well guess what dingle, neither do half the people living in this state. Of course theres some religious nuts here, but there everywhere.Shit, go down south and talk to that senator from North Carolina,Graham.Thats the state who has KKK written all over it.They love the white, blue eyed, brown silky haired jesus.Did you ever listen to his voice? Sounds like him and senator Craig have been sharing a bathroom.Bill no disrespect, I love your show, and I feel better after watching your show all the time. I wish there were more people like you out there, but make sure you know what your talking about first, before you start on the attack.I just wish you would give both sides(Republicans/Democrates) hell for what they have done to our nation. We have seen time and time again, when one party fucks up,the other takes over, then they fuck up,and we go back to the other side. People tell me it's how things are and will always be. Is it,really? Is this the way things have to be,or are we too scared to chahge it.I don't mean that fake change you see on Obamas signs,I mean real change. Taking the White House by force.making Dick Cheney eat a cock meat sandwich, and getting back to the basics, the way our founding fathers wanted it,before we let money rule our lives and thoughts. If there is a god, I hope he prays for us this time, cause we need it now more then ever.Peace my friends, and turn off the tv for a day and enjoy your family.

Maybe we'll just come up with another war plan and spend more of your money, how do you like that citizens?Oh, we were supposed to send money down to Texas for food and water,ha, not now,we have to go support some country that broke off from Russia awhile back, sorry.A soldier, duties, are to protect this country from danger, foreign and domestic. I think the domestic side is beating down our doors,so are you brave men and women going to stand up to your goverment, when we need you the most. The smoke screen has been put in place. If soldiers fight, they will branded as terrorists, but they will be our freedom fighters. Support the troops, are you getting tired of hearing that yet? The people who started that, our the ones who send soldiers off to die with out a second thought. It's not your duty to die for nothing,it's not their right to lay that lie at your feet. A soldier, prays for peace, above all else, because he has to go to battle, not George Bush or Bill Clinton or Obama or Rudy,or Mcain.I wish they could come home already. We had a chance to vote Dr.Ron Paul, but we let the delegates take care of that, and the news media helped get rid of him, when he was the one talking about our economy dropping,he was the one warning us. We deserve to fall. Our stupidity is already driving us over the edge anyway, so whats the difference.I say we give the third party a chance. I think it's about time, don't you?

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight . . .

* If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."
* Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers and shooting deer from airplanes, it's a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack, you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
* Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track; you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.
*Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a respected and effective community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.
* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 intelligent, well adjusted young daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.
* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your wife, disfigured from cancer, and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

* If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.
* If , while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant, you're very responsible.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.
* If your husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once w as a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA (as did his wife), your family is a fine example for other Americans.

OK, much clearer now!

OLDER FEMALES LIKE PALIN BECAUSE THEY HAVE LOST THE NECESSARY HORMONES FOR PROPER BRAIN FUNCTION
READ ON BILL......

Anti-Palin folks unite!

Most of you know of my connection to The Vagina Monologues. This is an opinion piece, not a fact sheet.

Eve Ensler, the American playwright, performer, feminist and activist best known for "The Vagina Monologues", wrote the following about Sarah Palin:

Drill, Drill, Drill

I am having Sarah Palin nightmares. I dreamt last night that she was a member of a club where they rode snowmobiles and wore the claws of drowned and starved polar bears around their necks. I have a particular thing for Polar Bears. Maybe it's their snowy whiteness or their bigness or the fact that they live in the arctic or that I have never seen one in person or touched one. Maybe it is the fact that they live so comfortably on ice. Whatever it is, I need the polar bears.

I don't like raging at women. I am a Feminist and have spent my life trying to build community, help empower women and stop violence against them. It is hard to write about Sarah Palin. This is why the Sarah Palin choice was all the more insidious and cynical. The people who made this choice count on the goodness and solidarity of Feminists.

But everything Sarah Palin believes in and practices is antithetical to Feminism which for me is part of one story -- connected to saving the earth, ending racism, empowering women, giving young girls options, opening our minds, deepening tolerance, and ending violence and war.

I believe that the McCain/Palin ticket is one of the most dangerous choices of my lifetime, and should this country chose those candidates the fall-out may be so great, the destruction so vast in so many areas that America may never recover. But what is equally disturbing is the impact that duo would have on the rest of the world. Unfortunately, this is not a joke. In my lifetime I have seen the clownish, the inept, the bizarre be elected to the presidency with regularity.

Sarah Palin does not believe in evolution. I take this as a metaphor. In her world and the world of Fundamentalists nothing changes or gets better or evolves. She does not believe in global warming. The melting of the arctic, the storms that are destroying our cities, the pollution and rise of cancers, are all part of God's plan. She is fighting to take the polar bears off the endangered species list. The earth, in Palin's view, is here to be taken and plundered. The wolves and the bears are here to be shot and plundered. The oil is here to be taken and plundered. Iraq is here to be taken and plundered. As she said herself of the Iraqi war, "It was a task from God."

Sarah Palin does not believe in abortion. She does not believe women who are raped and incested and ripped open against their will should have a right to determine whether they have their rapist's baby or not.

She obviously does not believe in sex education or birth control. I imagine her daughter was practicing abstinence and we know how many babies that makes.

Sarah Palin does not much believe in thinking. From what I gather she has tried to ban books from the library, has a tendency to dispense with people who think independently. She cannot tolerate an environment of ambiguity and difference. This is a woman who could and might very well be the next president of the United States. She would govern one of the most diverse populations on the earth.

Sarah believes in guns. She has her own custom Austrian hunting rifle. She has been known to kill 40 caribou at a clip. She has shot hundreds of wolves from the air.

Sarah believes in God. That is of course her right, her private right. But when God and Guns come together in the public sector, when war is declared in God's name, when the rights of women are denied in his name, that is the end of separation of church and state and the undoing of everything America has ever tried to be.

I write to my sisters. I write because I believe we hold this election in our hands. This vote is a vote that will determine the future not just of the U.S., but of the planet. It will determine whether we create policies to save the earth or make it forever uninhabitable for humans. It will determine whether we move towards dialogue and diplomacy in the world or whether we escalate violence through invasion, undermining and attack. It will determine whether we go for oil, strip mining, coal burning or invest our money in alternatives that will free us from dependency and destruction. It will determine if money gets spent on education and healthcare or
whether we build more and more methods of killing. It will determine whether America is a free open tolerant society or a closed place of fear, fundamentalism and aggression.

If the Polar Bears don't move you to go and do everything in your power to get Obama elected then consider the chant that filled the hall after Palin spoke at the RNC, "Drill Drill Drill." I think of teeth when I think of drills. I think of rape. I think of destruction. I think of domination. I think of military exercises that force mindless repetition, emptying the brain of analysis, doubt, ambiguity or dissent. I think of pain.

Do we want a future of drilling? More holes in the ozone, in the floor of the sea, more holes in our thinking, in the trust between nations and peoples, more holes in the fabric of this precious thing we call life?

IT IS OBVIOUS OLDER WOMAN HAVE LOST NECESSARY HORMONES NEEDED FOR PROPER BRAIN FUNCTION....

ONE MORE THING ABOUT PALIN

A note to all by Anne Kilkenny
Dear friends,

So many people have asked me about what I know about Sarah Palin in the
last 2 days that I decided to write something up . . .

Basically, Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton have only 2 things in
common: their gender and their good looks. :)

You have my permission to forward this to your friends/email contacts
with my name and email address attached, but please do not post it on
any websites, as there are too many kooks out there . . .

Thanks,
Anne

[ Note by web_admin: This was already posted on Washington Independent
comments area and was meant by the author to be read by many, but
readers need sourcing. The NY Times has talked with Anne since. ]

ABOUT SARAH PALIN
I am a resident of Wasilla, Alaska. I have known Sarah since 1992.
Everyone here knows Sarah, so it is nothing special to say we are on a
first-name basis. Our children have attended the same schools. Her
father was my child's favorite substitute teacher. I also am on a
first name basis with her parents and mother-in-law. I attended more
City Council meet ings during her administration than about 99% of the
residents of the city.

She is enormously popular; in every way she’s like the most popular
girl in middle school. Even men who think she is a poor choice and
won't vote for her can't quit smiling when talking about her because
she is a "babe".

It is astonishing and almost scary how well she can keep a secret. She
kept her most recent pregnancy a secret from her children and parents
for seven months.

She is "pro-life". She recently gave birth to a Down's syndrome baby.
There is no cover-up involved, here; Trig is her baby.

She is energetic and hardworking. She regularly worked out at the gym.

She is savvy. She doesn't take positions; she just "puts things out
there" and if they prove to be popular, then she takes credit.

Her husband works a union job on the North Slope for BP and is a
champion snowmobile racer. Todd Palin’s kind of job is highly
sought-after because of the schedule and high pay. He arranges his
work schedule so he can fish for salmon in Bristol Bay for a month or
so in summer, but by no stretch of the imagination is fishing their
major source of income. Nor has her life-style ever been anything
like that of native Alaskans.

Sarah and her whole family are avid hunters.

She's smart.

Her experience is as mayor of a city with a population of about 5,000
(at the time), and less than 2 years as governor of a state with about
670,000 residents.

During her mayoral administration most of the actual work of running
this small city was turned over to an administrator. She had been
pushed to hire this administrator by party power-brokers after she had
gotten herself into some trouble over precipitous firings which had
given rise to a recall campaign.

Sarah campaigned in Wasilla as a “fiscal conservative”. During her 6
years as Mayor, she increased general government expenditures by over
33%. During those same 6 years the amount of taxes collected by the
City increased by 38%. This was during a period of low inflation
(1996-2002). She reduced progressive property taxes and increased a
regressive sales tax which taxed even food. The tax cuts that she
promoted benefited large corporate property owners way more than they
benefited residents.

The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration
weren’t enough to fund everything on her wish list though, borrowed
money was needed, too. She inherited a city with zero debt, but left it
with indebtedness of over $22 million. What did Mayor Palin encourage
the voters to borrow money for? Was it the infrastructure that she said
she supported? The sewage treatment plant that the city lacked? or a
new library? No. $1m for a park. $15m-plus for construction of a
multi-use sports complex which she rushed through to build on a piece
of property that the City didn’t even have clear title to, that was
still in litigation 7 yrs later--to the delight of the lawyers
involved! The sports complex itself is a nice addition to the
community but a huge money pit, not the profit-generator she claimed it
would be. She also supported bonds for $5.5m for road projects that
could have been done in 5-7 yrs without any borrowing.

While Mayor, City Hall was extensively remodeled and her office
redecorated more than once.

These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city.

As an oil producer, the high price of oil has created a budget surplus
in Alaska. Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will
make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor she
proposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state.

In this time of record state revenues and budget surpluses, she
recommended that the state borrow/bond for road projects, even while
she proposed distribution of surplus state revenues: spend today's
surplus, borrow for needs.

She’s not very tolerant of divergent opinions or open to outside ideas
or compromise. As Mayor, she fought ideas that weren’t generated by
her or her staff. Ideas weren’t evaluated on their merits, but on the
basis of who proposed them.

While Sarah was Mayor of Wasilla she tried to fire our highly respected
City Librarian because the Librarian refused to consider removing from
t he library some books that Sarah wanted removed. City residents
rallied to the defense of the City Librarian and against Palin's
attempt at out-and-out censorship, so Palin backed down and withdrew
her termination letter. People who fought her attempt to oust the
Librarian are on her enemies list to this day.

Sarah complained about the “old boy’s club” when she first ran for
Mayor, so what did she bring Wasilla? A new set of "old boys". Palin
fired most of the experienced staff she inherited. At the City and as
Governor she hired or elevated new, inexperienced, obscure people,
creating a staff totally dependent on her for their jobs and eternally
grateful and fiercely loyal--loyal to the point of abusing their power
to further her personal agenda, as she has acknowledged happened in the
case of pressuring the State’s top cop (see below).

As Mayor, Sarah fired Wasilla’s Police Chief because he “intimidated”
her, she told the press. As Governor, her recent firing of Alaska's top
cop has the ring of familiarity about it. He served at her pleasure
and she had every legal right to fire him, but it's pretty clear that
an important factor in her decision to fire him was because he wouldn't
fire her sister's ex-husband, a State Trooper. Under investigation
for abuse of power, she has had to admit that more than 2 dozen
contacts were made between her staff and family to the person that she
later fired, pressuring him to fire her ex-brother-in-law. She tried to
replace the man she fired with a man who she knew had been reprimanded
for sexual harassment; when this caused a public furor, she withdrew
her support.

She has bitten the hand of every person who extended theirs to her in
help. The City Council person who personally escorted her around town
introducing her to voters when she first ran for Wasilla City Council
became one of her first targets when she was later elected Mayor. She
abruptly fired her loyal City Administrator; even people who didn’t
like the guy were stunned by this ruthlessness.

Fear of retribution has kept all of these people from saying anything
publicly about her.

When then-Governor Murkowski was handing out political plums, Sarah got
the best, Chair of the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission: one
of the few jobs not in Juneau and one of the best paid. She had no
background in oil & gas issues. Within months of scoring this great
job which paid $122,400/yr, she was complaining in the press about the
high salary. I was told that she hated that job: the commute, the
structured hours, the work. Sarah became aware that a member of this
Commission (who was also the State Chair of the Republican Party)
engaged in unethical behavior on the job. In a gutsy move which some
undoubtedly cautioned her could be political suicide, Sarah solved all
her problems in one fell swoop: go t out of the job she hated and
garnered gobs of media attention as the patron saint of ethics and as a
gutsy fighter against the “old boys’ club” when she dramatically quit,
exposing this man’s ethics violations (for which he was fined).

As Mayor, she had her hand stuck out as far as anyone for pork from
Senator Ted Stevens. Lately, she has castigated his pork-barrel
politics and publicly humiliated him. She only opposed the “bridge to
nowhere” after it became clear that it would be unwise not to.

As Governor, she gave the Legislature no direction and budget
guidelines, then made a big grandstand display of line-item vetoing
projects, calling them pork. Public outcry and further legislative
action restored most of these projects--which had been vetoed simply
because she was not aware of their importance--but with the unobservant
she had gained a reputation as “anti-pork”.

She is solidly Republican: no political maverick. The State party
leaders hate her because she has bit them in the back and humiliated
them. Other members of the party object to her self-description as a
fiscal conservative.

Around Wasilla there are people who went to high school with Sarah.
They call her “Sarah Barracuda” because of her unbridled ambition and
predatory ruthlessness. Before she became so powerful, very ugly
stories circulated around town about shenanigans she pulled to be made
point guard on the high school basketball team. When Sarah's
mother-in-law, a highly respected member of the community and
experienced manager, ran for Mayor, Sarah refused to endorse her.

As Governor, she stepped outside of the box and put together of package
of legislation known as “AGIA” that forced the oil companies to march
to the beat of her drum.

Like most Alaskans, she favors drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge. She has questioned if the loss of sea ice is linked to
global warming. She campaigned “as a private citizen” against a state
initiaitive that would have either a) protected salmon streams from
pollution from mines, or b) tied up in the courts all mining in the
state (depending on who you listen to). She has pushed the State’s
lawsuit against the Dept. of the Interior’s decision to list polar
bears as threatened species.

McCain is the oldest person to ever run for President; Sarah will be a
heartbeat away from being President.

There has to be literally millions of Americans who are more
knowledgeable and experienced than she.

However, there’s a lot of people who have underestimated her and are
regretting it.

CLAIM VS FACT
•“Hockey mom”: true for a few years
•“PTA mom”: true years ago when her first-born was in elementary
school, not since
•“NRA supporter”: absolutely true
•s ocial conservative: mixed. Opposes gay marriage, BUT vetoed a bill
that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships
(said she did this because it was unconsitutional).
•pro-creationism: mixed. Supports it, BUT did nothing as Governor to
promote it.
•“Pro-life”: mixed. Knowingly gave birth to a Down’s syndrome baby
BUT declined to call a special legislative session on some pro-life
legislation
•“Experienced”: Some high schools have more students than Wasilla has
residents. Many cities have more residents than the state of Alaska.
No legislative experience other than City Council. Little hands-on
supervisory or managerial experience; needed help of a city
administrator to run town of about 5,000.
•political maverick: not at all
•gutsy: absolutely!
•open & transparent: ??? Good at keeping secrets. Not good at
explaining actions.
•has a developed philosophy of public policy: no
•”a Greenie”: no. Turned Wasilla into a wasteland of big box stores
and disconnected parking lots. Is pro-drilling off-shore and in ANWR.
•fiscal conservative: not by my definition!
•pro-infrastructure: No. Promoted a sports complex and park in a city
without a sewage treatment plant or storm drainage system. Built
streets to early 20th century standards.
•pro-tax relief: Lowered taxes for businesses, increased tax burden on
residents
•pro-small government: No. Ov ersaw greatest expansion of city
government in Wasilla’s history.
•pro-labor/pro-union. No. Just because her husband works union
doesn’t make her pro-labor. I have seen nothing to support any claim
that she is pro-labor/pro-union.

WHY AM I WRITING THIS?
First, I have long believed in the importance of being an informed
voter. I am a voter registrar. For 10 years I put on student voting
programs in the schools. If you google my name (Anne Kilkenny +
Alaska), you will find references to my participation in local
government, education, and PTA/parent organizations.

Secondly, I've always operated in the belief that "Bad things happen
when good people stay silent". Few people know as much as I do because
few have gone to as many City Council meetings.

Third, I am just a housewife. I don't have a job she can bump me out
of. I don't belong to any organization that she can hurt. But, I am no
fool; she is immensely popular here, and it is likely that this will
cost me somehow in the future: that’s life.

Fourth, she has hated me since back in 1996, when I was one of the 100
or so people who rallied to support the City Librarian against Sarah's
attempt at censorship.

Fifth, I looked around and realized that everybody else was afraid to
say anything because they were somehow vulnerable.

CAVEATS
I am not a statistician. I developed the numbers for the increase in
spen ding & taxation 2 years ago (when Palin was running for Governor)
from information supplied to me by the Finance Director of the City of
Wasilla, and I can't recall exactly what I adjusted for: did I adjust
for inflation? for population increases? Right now, it is impossible
for a private person to get any info out of City Hall--they are
swamped. So I can't verify my numbers.

You may have noticed that there are various numbers circulating for the
population of Wasilla, ranging from my "about 5,000", up to 9,000. The
day Palin’s selection was announced a city official told me that the
current population is about 7,000. The official 2000 census count was
5,460. I have used about 5,000 because Palin was Mayor from 1996 to
2002, and the city was growing rapidly in the mid-90’s.

I agree with the post about human life & animal life on the first page of posts. I am also curious about Palin's stance on encouraging timber, mining, drilling, and fishing. Ironically, she is contradicting exactly what she supports.

To support drilling and mining, your support burning it. The most important resource that can help clean the air of the exhausts from burning is timber itself. What will filter the air with no timber? Thus adding to the problems we face today with global warming, including the warming of waters in which certain hunted fish must move from their natural habitats to be able to survive in colder temperatures, creating a conglomerate of fish that don't even belong together killing each other off.

My point is.....What edible fish is she hoping to catch when our cold Alaskan waters are the temperature of a good porno?

Splendour in the Grass

What though the radiance
which was once so bright
Be now for ever taken from my sight,
Though nothing can bring back the hour
Of splendour in the grass,
of glory in the flower,
We will grieve not, rather find
Strength in what remains behind;
In the primal sympathy
Which having been must ever be;
In the soothing thoughts that spring
Out of human suffering;
In the faith that looks through death,
In years that bring the philosophic mind.

If the rumors are true that the majority of white women are going to vote for McCain-Palin simply because of Palin (Bush in a dress as I like to call her), then I will vomit. As a white woman who could be defined properly as a "soccer mom", I would never ever vote for her. Not only because of the length (or lack thereof) of her resume, but also because by voting her a millimeter away from the Presidency I would be contributing to setting the women's rights movement back by 40 years minimum. Has this lady ever heard of the constitution, or that little part about separation of church and state. Am I the only white woman in the country who can see past the fog and refuses to vote for this fascist in a skirt suit?

Dear Bill,

When is the media going to break the story about Palin's double fake pregnancy? As in faking her pregnancy to cover up her daughter's, and then deceitfully announcing her daughter to be pregnant once named to the Republican ticket as a smokescreen coverup (ie, admitting to a small crime to cover up a bigger one). My guess is that she will have a fake "miscarriage" right before the election for symptathy votes. When will the media actually probe into this as they really should rather than obliquely mentioning it?

Sept 19th Real Time was funny as usual, but what I really, really enjoyed was how your guests came right back at you when you questioned faith and belief in guardian angels.
You don't have to point skywards to believe in guardian angels. Angelic and Godly potential can be rationalized as part of our own human chemistry. In the realm of science, much of the mind is still unexplained. If you don't believe in God, you are underestimating yourself.

Bill,

The September 19th show was Brilliant. Your guests were great, I love Andrew Sullivan, although will.i.am was a little quieter than I expected.

I hope that you will be on Ret. General Wesley Clark to discuss McCain, and the supposed military leadership experience. The fact of the matter is he crashed 5 jets, and graduated at 894 out of 899 at the Naval Academy. And the only reason he got in to the academy and was able to stay there, the academy was going to kick him out twice for disobeying the rules regarding curfew and low grades. The academy only kept him because of his grandfather and father were admirals, and they could not tarnish the image of John S. McCain I, who was considered a hero.

Ret General Wesley Clark, who was career military, 34 years, has rightly pointed out that although we should honor the fact that McCain was prisoner of war during the Vietnam conflict; McCain has no extensive military leadership experience, other than then non war time squadron he was in charge of briefly before his capture.

McCain is no Dwight D. Eisenhower, and that needs to be discussed, hopefully on your show.

Oh, that was Dr. Andrew Sullivan, he is from Surrey, England, which is in the south, and did his undergrad and masters at Oxford, and masters and Ph.D. at Harvard.

His "posh" accent is not a put on. Actually, when listening to him, I thought out loud, he must have been here for a while as his accent sounded to me to be a bit washed out, and a tad American compared to those in Surrey.

Also he didn't sound like the posh BBC accent that many cultivate;perhaps you should listen or watch BBC America and see the difference.

There again, it was nice to see someone who is extremely well educated and has a high degree of communcation skills to express his opinion about the McCain/Palin ticket.

I drive a 15 ft box truck for my buisness and the democrats just raised the bridge toll to 12 dollars for my class of truck the DEMOCRATS did that, not george bush. Why do philly residents have to pay a 7% wage tax after the normal goverment taxes, because its a DEMOCRAT controlled area. No one is educated on the issues, most people i talk to dont have a clue what obama stands for. They just dont want the rich whitey in power, guess what bill that is racism at its best. I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

* If you grow up in Hawaii , raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."
* Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

* If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
* Name your kids Willow , Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

* Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.
* Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

* If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

* If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

* If you have been married to the same woman for 16 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

* If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

* If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America 's.

* If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

OK, much clearer now.

Being Canadian I may, in fact, be wrong on this, but, haven't the majority of American presidents been "elitist?" What connotations do Americans associate with that term? High socio-economic status? High levels of education?
If it's the former, can anyone tell me of an American president that was considered middle class? Didn't some of the founding fathers have slaves? If a person of average financial and social standing were to run, would that be reassuring? When it came time to discussing fiscal policy, would the American public want as the country's leader somoene who can't balance their bank book? There is something to be said about personal financial achievements versus inherited financial status, but, again, when in American history has this been an active reason to reject someone as leader?
If it's the latter, how is that a bad thing? How is more knowledge and a pursuit for the same a negative quality in a leader?
Why is it that anyone would like someone just like them to be President? If that's the case, why aren't the majority of Americans running for, and participating in, government? They're just as qualified!
George Bush, if I'm not mistaken, attended Ivy League university and grew up in a lifestyle that was very opposite to that of the Average American's. Is the only connection that people make with him his overt grammatical errors and ignorance (despite his education)?

I thank God that Bill Maher and others that share his views weren't on the front lines in World War II. And, why is it neccessary to attack Christian values and beliefs when it is upon those very values this country was founded. Would Bill Maher make a mockery of Muslims and suggest they just keep it to themselves? Of course not, that wouldn't be "cultured" of him. What has Bill Maher contributed to this country? Certainly not humor. When is the last time you heard someone say "Man, that Bill Maher is a funny guy"? Well, maybe Al Franken. So why would anyone consider his opinions on how we as a country should move forward? I guess that's the natural evolution... lonely outcast child to mediocre comedian to political commentator to elitist... Oh, I mean "someone who thinks he is smarter than everyone else". I hope for all our sakes, the Bill Mahers of the world continue to be able to live in a country that defends itself and its freedoms.

Bill,
I am deeply saddened that this entire country characterizes Barack Obama as a black or African American repeatedly. Barack Obama is the son of a white woman and a black man. He is just as much white as he is black, but the fact that he has any black in him seems to be the deciding descriptive factor. This thinking reminds me of the holocaust, where, if any person had the slightest amount of Jewish blood they were considered Jewish. It is only out of bigotry, I believe, that a man who is just as white as black is constantly referred to as one over the other.

Shadow said...

If all you find sad about the american people is the classification of someone based on the color of thier skin, then you must not spend much time around american people. The fact that the color of his skin being a deciding factor is my concern. He will naturally be classified as a black man because his appearance lends more toward that ethnicity. The truly sad thing is that we feel the need to discuss how much black or white is in a person. Someone please tell me when the hell we became so simplistic as to categorize people by color. What is white???? I am white, but when I buy make-up I see dozens of shades for "white people". If I am a white woman with a dark tan, I could use a make-up shade darker than a "black" woman with light skin. Within the color "white" are hundreds of ethnicities and blended ethnicities. Within "black people" there are hundreds of ethnicities and blended ethnicities as well. So who the hell cares what the color of someone's skin!?!? I have to ask you, why does it bother you that there is no discussion of the amount of white in him? Is it because he does not fit the image of a black man necessary to justify our own deep seeded racism and bigotry? I don't give a shit how much black, white, red, or yellow there is in this man. I care about how many of us do. Wake up people, everyone harbors feelings of racism or bigotry, it is how you look inside of yourself and find why his color bothers you. You may find that it is all unnecessary fear and insecurities that have been placed there by lack of exposure and an unwillingness to admit our own short comings as the "white race". Let us all remember, we stole this land from a race that was not "white".

Shadow said...

Everyone out there reading this that has a problem with Obama's color, so yourself a favor, close your eyes and just listen to the debates coming up. Picture both men black, or both men white, whatever works to rule out the color of someone's skin and make a decision for once based on the intentions, and intellect of the candidates. Who is bashing innocent youth? Wasn't it Obama that came out right away and declared children were off limits as the targets of attacks? McCain and Palin have set up a liberal straw-man that they can rail against. They point to the obviously false internet rumors as a Democratic plan to smear Palin. The "Trooper-gate" ethics investigation? Obviously the Democrats playing partisan politics again. Want to ask questions about Palin's experience? You must be sexist. Let's all try to forget that McCain continues to shield Palin from any meaningful questions from the media. How chivalrous.

Newsflash people, Republicans are not the victims. The American people are the victims of George Bush's failed attempt at creating an Evangelical theocracy. In their all-out push to overturn Roe v. Wade by appointing conservative justices to the Supreme Court, the Republican party has sacrificed the fiscal ideals they've always stood for.

Just in case anyone has jammed me into a liberal Democrat pigeon hole, I'm no fan of Obama either. His handling of the bailout crisis doesn't inspire confidence. He still hasn't laid out any specific plans to pay for all his promises. And that Jeremiah Wright Black Liberation Theology scares the heck out of me.

Either way, I have a bad feeling that the outcome of this election is going to be the same whoever gets elected.

To anyone who wonders how we can be so stupid in this country when it comes to politics, a book I suggest reading is “Just How Stupid Are We? – Facing The Truth About The American Voter” by Rick Shenkman. Early in the book are the five characteristics of stupidity. No, I am not the author – but I feel like someone finally gests it and says it succinctly. Pretty much all the discussions and arguments that we are having, fall into one of the five categories and I think it would help the dialogue if we can start by determining what category the bull-shit lies in.

“First is sheer ignorance: ignorance of critical facts about important events in the news, and ignorance of how our government functions and who’s in charge. Second is negligence: the disinclination to seek reliable sources of information about important news events. Third is wooden-headedness, as the historian Barbara Tuchman defined it: the inclination to believe what we want to believe, regardless of the facts. Fourth is shortsightedness: the support of public policies that are mutually exclusive, or contrary to the country’s long-term interests. Fifth, and finally, is a broad category I call bone-headedness, for want of a better word: the susceptibility to meaningless phrases, stereotypes, irrational biases, and simplistic diagnoses and solutions that play on our hopes and fears.”

Unknown said...

This premise is exactly what fuels the republican machine. The half-smart dimwits of the party know very well the ignorance of the American public and capitalize on that with no holds barred. The Dems need to quit pussyfooting and match the GOP smear with a little of their own. One thing that pisses me off is that the Dems are not exposing Sarah Palin and her family woes. It's been said on numerous cable news shows that it's political taboo to expose the inner workings of her home, but this is the price she must pay for involving herself in women's reproductive rights.

Unknown said...

B.S. well done... here is a quote that will make it easier for all five categories to grasp. as I think most in this blog are very uninformed and just go by whats in vogue at the moment. I think the Obama phenomenon is of a much higher and greater significance. Obama represents the American perception that the USA is no longer a White culture, the USA in reality has become a multi-cultural society. The world support for Obama also recognizes this change.

McCain is the last hold out of the White "good old boy " style of government.

If Obama is elected ( and the USA becomes a multi cultural government ) that will be the best thing that could possibly happen now for the future of the USA. This one single change will have more long lasting positive outcomes than we are able to see now ....

What I find interesting is how the Republicans criticized Obama for his lack of experience, but then defend Palin as a good selection who’s prepared to become the President should McCain die in office.

I wonder what would have happened if McCain had gotten Condoleeza Rice to be his VP candidate? I think that might have scared the Democrats because she’s a woman, she’s black, and she has significant foreign policy experience.

someone who was a mayor of a small town and then the governor of the state with the country’s lowest population density for less than two years is prepared to assume the Presidency? Someone who didn’t even own a passport until a couple of years ago? Obama’s weakness is his lack of experience, but Palin makes Obama look like a seasoned veteran.
Palin’s energy expertise not evident
Keith Olbermann points out that Sarah Palin, for all of the hype about her energy expertise, doesn’t seem to know how much of America’s energy comes from Alaska. And her surrogates are apparently equally poorly informed.
Palin resurrects Iraq-9/11 falsehood
The Nation’s Chris Hayes talks about Sarah Palin renewing the false link between the terror attacks of 9/11 and Iraq. Also discussed are Gen. David Petreus’ comments that he was unsure whether the word “victory” would ever be used to describe Iraq.
Olbermann: GOP trademarked 9/11
Keith Olbermann talks about the politicization of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, especially by the Bush administration and the GOP who use the event to terrify Americans.
Only the McCains know war?
In the debut of Countdown’s “McCain in the Membrane,” Keith Olbermann discusses Meghan McCain’s statement on the Today show that “no one knows what war is like other than my family. Period.”

You can't leave religion out of your show can you? Every single episode you have to attack it like you're a religious fanatic on a jihad against God. Yours is a religion in itself. Your god, money, just died in the stock market. Next is your fame. Maybe when you're living under a bridge, you'll be humble enough to use the Bible to rip a page out, roll a joint and accidentally read John 3:16 before you light up. By the way, what's wrong with Palin? What? You don't like someone similar to the Midwestern people? You need to come down off your ivory tower and see how real people actually live because 85 percent of people in the world believe in some kind of God.

What is wrong with Palin? You must be joking.

First, my issue, as well as many other women, is thst she would force a victim of RAPE or Incest to carry any child from this crime for 9 months in our bodies. THIS WILL NOT HAPPEN.

If YOU believe this, the you need to get out of what you call the Midwest, and I would call the Middle Ages.

What ever lies and half truths Sarah Palin wants to tell pales in comparison to what she would do to victims of rape and incest.

Oh Yeah, and she charges for rape kits in her former town. Talk about victimizing rape victims.

Shadow said...

clydene, I have to correct you about Palin charging for rape kits. Actually it was the chief of police that fought the legislation to not charge the victim for the kits. There is no proof that Palin knew about it let alone condoned it. We need to make sure the facts are straight before we speak. One can assume that she knew, but remember what is said about those who ASSUME. Stick to what can be proven, it's better material anyway.

Shadow said...

mp2008 thank you for correcting me. Clearly you showed your superior intellect with your last blog. I am truly humbled. Are you sure about the spelling of yeehaw? What is your deal with corn-cobs? Maybe you should page Dr. Freud.

BS Detective said...

“Elitist: noun: Someone who believes in rule by an elite group.”

Well, if that’s not a definition for ALL of government, I don’t know what is. So, when we have one group of government calling the other “elitist”, I believe we have a lot of arguing going on here about a “pot calling the kettle black.” (No racism intended.)

However, the word “Elitist” will conjure up different meanings and definitions of the word depending on the person hearing it. This ploy of using words and phrases to stir emotions in people in order to trigger a desired response is very typical of ALL politicians, but I do admit that I think the Republicans tend to be better at it. My perception is that the Democrats get so bogged down at times trying to explain the definitions, that they miss the point and bore people to death at the same time.

EXAMPLE: Can we stop having a debate on “Right To Life”. The last time I took biology, other than dead protean (like hair and finger nails), the occasional kidney stone and maybe a new hip or joint replacement, there really isn’t much in the human body that isn’t alive. So perhaps, it’s not pro-life, but really pro-soul (or pro-consciousness for the agnostics). And for those people who say they are pro-choice… If you are religious, I really don’t think you have a choice in getting a soul and if you aren’t religious, then I don’t think you’re going to be converted to the possibility of a soul over an abortion debate.

Isn’t the real question “When does the soul start or consciousness start?” I think that debate might have some validity, but both parties of government want to keep the debate over obtuse definitions in order to call out an “enemy”: someone they need to protect you from.

clydene said...

Okay...but she was very clear that she would make victims of rape and incest carry the spawn of the men who raped them with Charles Gibson.

I'm against the $85,000,000,000.00 bailout of AIG. Instead, I'm in
favor of giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a "We Deserve It
Dividend".

To make the math simple, let's assume there are 200 million bonafide
U.S. Citizens 18+. Our population is about 301,000,000 +/- counting every
man, woman and child. So 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18
and up..
So divide 200 million adults 18+ into $85 billion that equals
$425,000.00.

My plan is to give $425,000 to every person 18+ as a "We Deserve It
Dividend". Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So let's assume a tax
rate of 30%. Every individual 18+ has to pay $127,500.00 in taxes.
That sends $25,500,000,000 right back to Uncle Sam.

But it means that every adult 18+ has $297,500.00 in their pocket. A
husband and wife has $595,000.00.

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00 in your family?
* Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.

* Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads
* Put away money for college - it'll be there
* Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
* Buy a new car - create jobs
* Invest in the market - capital drives growth
* Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves
* Enable Deadbeat Dads to come clean - or else

Remember this is for every adult U S Citizen 18+ including the folks
who lost their jobs at Lehman Brothers and every other company that is
cutting back. And of course, for those serving in our Armed Forces.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it...instead of
trickling out a puny $1000.00 ( "vote buy" ) economic incentive that
is being proposed by one of our candidates for President.

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every
adult U S Citizen 18+!

As for AIG -
* liquidate it.
* Sell off its parts.
* Let American General go back to being American General.
* Sell off the real estate.

Here's my rationale. We deserve it and AIG doesn't.

Sure it's a crazy idea that can "never work."
But can you imagine the Coast-To-Coast Block Party?
How do you spell Economic Boom?

I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use the
$85 billion We deserve the "We Deserve It Dividend" more than the
geniuses at AIG or in Washington DC.

clydene I agree completely. Pro-life is a choice that I make for myself, however I have never been raped and impregnated by it. I could not imagine the pain and suffering both for my family and myself if that were to happen. It is easy to judge others when you have not lived in their shoes. I also want to ask people who are pro-life, do you really think that a woman who would kill her unborn child for no reason other than not wanting it would make a good mother? If she put the child up for adoption, would you give the child a home? mp2008 you claim that your behavior is due to you being attacked for your opinions. However, you chose not to rationally make an argument to anything that I stated. Instead you chose to correct my spelling. If your opinion differs from mine, then simply state the differences. How can we debate whether or not there is a corn-cob.....

Go to   gov.state.ak.us/  then select homeland security from the links on the home page. Check out the 24 day emergency preparedness plan. These are the reasons that Sarah Palin would never get my vote.  Check out the photos of the towers followed by her states' emergency preparedness plan.  This is absurd. I don't think this plan would have helped anyone on 9/11. It looks like some ill-contrived effort by a group of soccer moms with nothing better to do with their time. I ask you, what would the people of Alaska do if there was an emergency in the next 24 days and they don't have their kit put together?!?!  Check it out...why couldn't we have had Sarah Palin during the writer's strike? This kind of comedy writes itself.

Opinions I have stated in the past - but, our opinions and research are wrong according to all the scholars on this board, so therefore, we are stupid, ignorant redneck hillbilly's! I never called anyone names, tried to be respectful but, it didn't matter. I don't care what the opinion is of me but, I have convictions just as you. Am I not entitled to them? My "behavior" is really no different from anyone else! After I was called many names, I gave up trying to be nice!

PAST STATEMENTS:

I am really tired of the Bush Bashing. Since 2001, he'd been trying to get Congress to "reform Fannie Mae"....DEMOCRATS VOTED IT DOWN! But, after "only 2 years, Obama was #2 on the list for most money received from Fannie Mae. For 7 years, he has been pushing Congress for Offshore Drilling....DEMOCRATS VOTED IT DOWN! Everything that would benefit us he offered.....DEMOCRATS VOTED IT DOWN!

On 9/11....OUR WORLD CHANGED!

After 9/11, Saddam was given 18 months from Bush and the United Nations to comply with Resolutions brought by the U.N......HE IGNORED 14 OF THEM! He was given 18 months to come clean and "prove" he had no WMD's.....HE IGNORED THAT DEMAND AND IT WAS A SIMPLE REQUEST! Now, we hear things like "fighting a senseless war". If we had not gone into Iraq, it would have become a safe haven for the Terrorist who "killed" 3000 of us, plus Saddam was "funding" suicide bombers, $25,000 per family. Our guys are not fighting a senseless war....THEY ARE WINNING IT AND WE HAVE BEEN SAFE BECAUSE OF THEM AND BUSH!

In 2006, were we in this shape? Because of some stupid shenanigans by a small number of Republicans, the voting public put Democrats in Control.

LOOK AT US NOW! DEMOCRATS HAVE PUT US WHERE WE ARE NOW!

Now, I don't care who you vote for but, if Obama had "true Presidential" quality, he would have Voted more while in Congress and, he would have put his childish and petty ego aside and placed Hillary on his ticket! That would have "guaranteed him the White House". Also, what has Obama "really" done in 4 years?

One last thing....if there happens to be an October Surprise, saying, for some "odd" reason Biden bows out and Hillary steps in? What does that tell you about Obama? So, if you "want to pay more taxes", vote Obama! (If he wins, HE WILL RAISE THEM)

Now, you love Obama, I don't! I haven't bashed him (unlike the vile things I have read about McCain/Palin), just asked for "1" thing he has done. Does that make me an "Evil" person because I don't share the convictions of the Left? In your eyes, YES!

Shadow said...

Well, thank you for your response. There is a lot of anger and defensiveness in your staements. I agree with you that the democrats have aided in the tearing of the fabric of our country, both economically and socially.  There is a very well founded truth in what you say. No one group has the right to put the blame on another.  I have a serious question for you,  does it not concern you at all that if John Mccain wins the presidency, that Sarah Palin could possibly be our leader? You seem to be intelligent, just frustrated. Do you really agree with her stand on abortion, killing animals for sport, that this is a war sanctioned by God, and most importantly her complete cluelessness about most of the important issues facing the next president? I don't claim to be clued in on everything either, but I am not applying for the vice presidency.  I don't want the girl next door to be running our country, the girl next door is nice, but not president material.    I feel that we need new blood in the whitehouse. I feel that Obama is the only one running with a shot at making some changes. Joe Biden is a strong candidate with an impressive record that mirrors a lot of my beliefs.  Every politician wavers and pandors to whatever side will benefit them.  Look, if Obama wins, maybe in 4 years I will be eating crow, but to me, It's worth a shot. Mccain and his views do not represent, for me, an America that I can be proud of.

MP2008 said...

I personally am waiting for the debates.

As far as Palin, I don't know her in order to judge her. Same goes for Obama, I don't know him. Again, that's why I will wait for the debates.

I'm against abortion but, I do feel it's the woman's choice. I love animals, I don't hunt, but I will not judge someone who does. My husband used to hunt. In most cases, it is necessary otherwise, overpopulation occurs. I still don't like it, but I'm in no position to judge someone for it.

As far as the war, I hate it but, we are winning it - we are there and we need to finish it, otherwise, the terrorist win.

I only hope whomever wins actually abides by what they say!

Shadow said...

mp2008 wow! I am suprised, you actually sound undecided! I am not asking you to judge anyone, but remember their opinions and beliefs can become policy. That is a danger for all of us if our public officials are too extreme. I keep hearing that we are winning the war. This puzzles me. What do we win? It is a profound hatred for our way of life that has bred the extremist suicide killers. Do you truly believe that our presence there is making it better? I would feel safer with our military men and women back home to protect us on our own soil. There is no clean way out of this mess in Iraq, But we can't afford to stay, not financially or with the lives of our men and women. I hope that Obama's plan to responsibly pull out comes to fruition. I just can't imagine how we can do it. Staying just seems counterproductive in the way that we are handling it now. Thank you for calming down and seriously answering me. We can never have a common ground if we don't listen to the other side.

MP2008 said...

I am decided however, there is always room to change the mind.

I do believe we are winning in Iraq and unfortunately, alot of the good our guys have done and still doing does not get shown in the media. However, the Iraqi Government needs to step it up so we can leave. Terrorism dates back to the 14th Century AD and has grown ever since. America has been targeted for the last 50 years and only 2 Presidents have had the guts to confront them. We cannot allow them to conduct another 9/11. I want our guys home just as much as anyone else, but we can't cut and run. We did that in Vietnam and millions were slaughtered - we left Kuwait and Saddam gased the Kurds, deprived/tortured his people while he lived in luxury. We can't make that mistake again.

Financially, we have to put our trust in "all" of our leaders to make this right. Democrats and Republicans - maybe this is their wake-up call.

I am hoping that someday it will come to the people voting "both Parties" on the ticket, i.e. Dem/Rep or Rep/Dem. This way it would be the best of both parties controlling our fate!

Unfortunately, that will never happen.

Shadow said...

YES!!! A point we agree on! The Iraqi government does need to step it up! However I believe that one of Obama's steps in his plan to pull our military out is to work through diplomacy to lead the Iraqi people to form a government that establishes peace. Strong-arm military force is not the way to create peace. The question we have to ask ourselves is when is it o.k. to use force and when is it time to begin to use something better....the diplomacy that we used to be respected for. We are no longer the respected nation that we used to be. We must reestablish our credibility as a powerful free nation that exemplifies the what we impress upon others. I ask you, Is John Mccain that man? or, maybe we should try something new. Just my opinion.

Australia...here I come said...

Until we solve the problem with our electronic voting machines, I feel as thogh I'm wasting my breath as well as my vote in this election. Cry conspiracy all you'd like but if we all had a receipt, at least you could PROVE I'm wrong!

My Bailout Plan? (UNCLASSIFIED)

I like this plan! Very simple and I think it hits on some key
points....but it's too simple! It is just for the AIG bailout.

What if we apply the same reasoning to the $700 Billion bailout of Wall
Street???

I was thinking the other night over a little Jim Beam, okay maybe it was
more than a little, and I came up with this idea.

Idea worth considering.

I'm against the $85 BILLION bailout of AIG. Instead, I'm in favor of
giving $85,000,000,000 to America in a "We Deserve It" dividend. To
make the math simple, let's assume there are 200,000,000 bona fide U.S.
citizens, aged 18+.

Our population is about 301 million counting every man, woman and child.
So, 200,000,000 might be a fair stab at adults 18 and up. Now, divide
200 million, 18+ adults into $85 billion - that equals $425,000.00 each!
Yes, my plan is to give that $425,000 to every adult as a "We Deserve
It" dividend.

Of course, it would NOT be tax free. So, let's assume a tax rate of
30%. Everyone would pay $127,500.00 in taxes. That sends $25.5 billion
right back to Uncle Sam! It also means that every adult 18+ has
$297,500.00 in their pocket. A husband and wife would have $595,000.00!

What would you do with $297,500.00 to $595,000.00?

* Pay off your mortgage - housing crisis solved.
* Repay college loans - what a great boost to new grads.
* Put away money for college - it'll really be there.
* Save in a bank - create money to loan to entrepreneurs.
* Buy a new car - create jobs .
* Invest in the market - capital drives growth.
* Pay for your parent's medical insurance - health care improves.
* Enable deadbeat parents to come clean - or else.

Remember this is for every adult U.S. citizen, 18 and older (including
the folks who lost their jobs at Lehmann Brothers and every other
company that is cutting back) and of course, for those serving in our
Armed Forces.

If we're going to re-distribute wealth let's really do it! Instead of
trickling out a puny $1,000.00 "economic incentive".

If we're going to do an $85 billion bailout, let's bail out every adult
U.S. citizen!

As for AIG - liquidate it.

* Sell off its parts.
* Let American General go back to being American General.
* Sell off the real estate.
* Let the private sector bargain hunters cut it up and clean it
up.

We deserve the money and AIG doesn't. Sure it's a crazy idea, but can
you imagine the coast-to-coast block party?!

How do you spell Economic Boom? W-e D-e-s-e-r-v-e I-t
d-i-v-i-d-e-n-d! I trust my fellow adult Americans to know how to use
the $85 Billion "We Deserve It" dividend more than do the 'geniuses' at
AIG or in Washington, D.C..

And remember, my plan only really costs $59.5 billion because $25.5
billion is returned instantly in taxes to Uncle Sam. Good idea? I
think so.

I find it interesting that some people are considering leaving this country depending on the outcome of this election. Being a born and raised american citizen, I am looking for a place out of the country to escape to. The reason? Freedom. Stop and think about what has slowly, piece by piece, happened to this country over the past 45 years. Socialism has replaced capitalism. Various levels of government have seized control over just about every aspect of our lives. They take our retirement savings and tell us what to do with it, we can’t water our grass on certain days of the week or renovate our houses, the list is endless. One can not get out of bed in the morning for fear of violating some law, rule, or regulation somewhere. To Bill Maher and the rest of you liberal democrats, be happy. Over the course of time you have won. For me, I will accept a lower standard of living, keep most of the money I earn, and be fine with out government programs or intervention. I simply want to be free to live my life as I see fit. I'm eyeing a nice place in Costa Rica.

New Rule: Republicans may never again call Black Women "Welfare Queens." Instead, the must now use that term as it truly applies: Corporate CEO's.

From now on, before white, arrogant republicans can try to hold another race to a standard, they must live up to their own standards. Instead of complaining at Black Americans to get off their @$$ and do something, they must first address the Lazy CEO's they are spending 700 Billion to Bail out.

And lets get real, it is really the Lazy CEO's, and horrible economics those people create, that we have such Shi*ty economic conditions that cause this poverty. Even if blacks or other "lazy Americans" get welfare for "doing nothing," at least they have not hurt the economy in a way that is causing a 700 Billion Dollar backlash.

Last I checked, you only get a bonus if you do something good, but now it seems that you get a bonus for running companies into the ground, giving mortgages to people who cannot afford them, and drying up people's retirement funds.

But there is one CEO that will not be getting a bonus at the end of the year. George Bush is going to be losing his home also, the only problem is, he has another one to go to. And McCain can lose... 8 or 9 houses and still have one to go to.

But, when Obama take the White House, you can be assured that poor Americans who are suffering under this administration will be doing better. Remember, the first shall be last... and as the Bible itself predicts, In an Obama America, the Last shall be first on his agenda.

I just figured out how we can get the white southern man to vote for Obama. Since they are so used to seeing a black man as a servant the Democrats just need to cast Obama in his presidential role as "The Best Man to be this country's #1 servant. Who would you rather have as your servant? Obama or McCain?" I think the image will be clear for them.

I don't care how eloquent he is, or as the woman on The View say, "He's Hot"! I admit he is a likeable guy, but not for president. I am not convinced he is a patriot. mp2008.... How did you feel about Palin's interview with Katie Couric (assuming what we all know that the media chooses what to air...still no excuse for her responses)? Why does John Mccain feel as though the agreement can't be reached while he is away for a few hours. I guess he feels the need to make sure that his rich pals are taken care of in his "ammended proposal". In a report I heard last night, John Mccain's proposal includes another tax cut for the wealthy and an allowance for high ranking CEO's to retain their salaries and signing bonuses in situations like this. Please tell me that I am wrong!!!!!!!!! How can our government expect the tax payers that did the right thing to bail out those who didn't. I am so disgusted with everyone in Washington right now.

I am so tired of John Mccain spouting off that he warned Washington about regulations for Fannie and Freddie. Enough!!!!!! He was NOT one of the five republicans that proposed regulation, nor did he take any proactive role in preventing this disaster. All of Washington is to blame for this getting as far as it has. Mr. Mccain....talking about it is what a politican does, taking action is what an elected official does.

Let me clarify before a bunch of republicans jump down my throat, John Mccain co-sponored the proposal, however he was not one of the republicans taking the issue to the forefront. Did the democrats vote down a proposal? YES!! Again, everyone in Washington is to blame for this!!!! The democrats also proposed their amended version, and it also was not aknowledged. The point is, John Mccain needs to stop overstating his Maverick position and admit that he did no more than anyone else in Washington. Neither John Mccain nor Barack Obama took a proactive role in preventing any of this.

Bill, why hasn't anyone realized that McCain really doesn't want the job. He would not have picked 'that woman' as his running mate if he really wanted to win this election. McCain just likes to run for President - my god how many times now? Can you see it? Palian having a bucking machine installed in her office, kids running around making prank phone calls to leaders of other nations (my momma is gonna kick yer ass). Looking forward to the country of the week feature in case I just can't stand it and have to move - thanks Bill! Love your humor all the way back to when you had Chris Rock cover the republician campaign - I LMAF!

I would like to bring up a subject that I would appreciate some input on. My 14 year old son is in the advanced classes in a public school district that ranks as one of the top nationally.....that being said.... to this day there has been limited instruction or education about how our government is structured and operates. This is a huge problem, I think, that this continues. The average american has little education about our government. our children are bombarded with VOTE campaigns( which in itself is sad)yet they have little understanding of the process. I hate to believe that our government wants us ignorant to these facts. Instead of discussing creationism/evolution in our schools, let's talk about our educational system teaching "how cavemen used fire"(on my son's last honors exam by the way)instead of teaching them the true history of our government. Listen we don't all need to be scientists, but we do need to know what the hell we are voting for. Overhauling of our educational system is an issue that is not talked about nearly enough. My son will be voting age in the next election. Why is no one concerned about the lack of education in this area. Oh, and a side note...my 8 year old son heard Palin's comment about seeing Russia from Alaska,( yes, my children watch the process with us) so he got the map from my desk and said "wow, Mom, she must have really good eyes!!" My 11 year old piped up with " she wears glasses, you idiot!!" Funny, kids can sometimes be the more observant ones.

While this is not directed at anyone. I know we all make typos and spelling mistakes.

However, one thing I have noticed that many people here making some arguments do not understand some basic principles of grammar.

To - is the place you would be going. I am going to Germany.

Too - is to be included, such as also. I would like to go to Germany too. I am too sleepy.

Two - is a number. I have two apples.

There - is a place you would be going.

Their - is a possessive pronoun, such as their stupidity.

They're - is a contraction of They are; which is used primarily as an description of an action, not ownership.

Sadly, when I read these mistakes in using these very basic words I think our education system in the United States has failed.

Bill - big fan, never miss your show, caught you live here in Boston last summer, and am looking forward to Religulous.

A few thoughts came to mind today.

First off, I feel bad for McCain in the same way I feel bad for the old guy you see driving on the highway, 30 MPH in the middle lane, hands glued to the wheel like he's hanging on to the last breath of air before his oxygen tank runs out and with a shocked look of horror like he's stuck in the 'no spin zone'. You feel bad for the guy, but can't help but yell, 'get off the road'.

Samuel Johnson once wrote "patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel", Dylan offered the same words in his "Sweetheart Like You". I can't help but think of this quote everytime I see McCain asking us to trust him.

Why is it that everytime Sarah Palin can't answer a simple question like what's your foreign policy experience, the McCain Campaign cries that the interviewer was asking 'gotcha questions'? Maybe Jeff Foxworthy should put her and W on his "Are You Smarter than a 5th Grader".

The McCain campaign keeps saying that the media is not being fair to Palin by asking her lots of questions? They also say that reporters are being harder on her than on the other candidates? The bottom line is that these other candidates have been in the public eye for years, this woman just came off the moose hunt a month ago, read a speech that someone else wrote for her, and was then put in an Al Gore-like lockbox for 30 days. I guess McCains people think that we'll just take his good word for it that she'd be a great vice president?

It's becoming more and more obvious that they have her on lock down because everytime she talks they lose another point in the polls.

If Obama had a 17 year old daughter who was unmarried and pregnant, do you think the Republicans would play nice and not attack him for it?

It truly boggles my mind how adept the Republicans are at changing the subject. Olbermann had it completely right yesterday. They keep changing the subject so that America doesn't focus on what's really going on. They'll do this till Nov, and if they can keep within a couple poll points, they'll go for the hail mary pass - whatever that might be.

Lastly, the whole financial bailout thing, and McCain wanting to delay the debate? That is ridiculous. He goes to Washington to unite Dems and GOP and the Republican base splits. Good work John, you can go home now. This a day after he tells Letterman he has to cancel his appearance to fix this mess but instead goes to get his make-up done and do an interview on CBS? He tells the world he's not going to the debate that he needs to be in Washington to fix this crisis. Just 7 days before, he told America there was no crisis and that our economy was fundamentally strong? 2 days before heading to Washington he hadn't read the proposal. The day he gets there he doesn't offer any advice except to say that Obama had injected politics into it? Um, you're the one who suggested he be there... you mean, he showed up and showed you up.

I could go on for hours, I guess the bottom line is this campaign is a train wreck. Makes for some good late night laughs. The only problem is that it shouldn't be a laughing matter, it should be a time for fixing Washington.

Bill-- surprised you don't have a blog on this. Not that I'm in favor of spending $700 billion. But if you had to:

A Bailout Plan that WILL Work

Americans are skeptical about the proposed $700 billion bailout, and rightly so. The bailout focuses on mortgage-backed securities, not mortgages. The bailout is an expensive attempt to restore “confidence” in the markets, with little guarantee that confidence will be restored. One of the reasons we’re in this mess is because the link between mortgage-backed securities and mortgages has been broken, and this bailout plan will do nothing to repair it.

Instead of bailing out mortgage-backed securities and the firms who own them, let’s help homeowners directly, and turn this economy around. This plan is guaranteed to trickle up.
• A few analysts suggest that the markets can indeed weather the crisis on their own. If they are right, assisting these firms only rewards bad behaviors, and may do nothing to little to help the underlying economy and the millions of Americans who are struggling. The problem is a balance sheet problem, not a solvency problem—not enough cash to cover bad assets which they don’t know how to value.
• Homeowners are typically viewed as individuals (no big deal if one mortgage goes down to foreclosure) but should be understood collectively—together they hold 51.6 million mortgages and $15 trillion in debt.

The plan:
• All homeowners currently facing foreclosure (about 1.25 million) receive $50,000 (or the max of their mortgage) to refinance and buy down their debt. Price tag: ($63 billion).
• Remaining homeowners with incomes up to $100,000 receive $15,000 to buy down/prepay their mortgages ($512 billion).
• Homeowners with incomes between $100k and $150K receive $7,500 to buy down their mortgage ($72 billion).
• Congress passes a law: no foreclosures or resets for three years. After this period, all homeowners are on their own. (It’s projected that a million more foreclosures could be coming down the pike due to interest rate resets.)
• Incentives are provided to those lenders who complete the most refinancings (of good solid mortgages, not no doc loans, etc.).
• Numbers can be adjusted to help those w/o mortgages and/or those who’ve already lost their home.

The benefits:
• In the process of refinance, banks/lenders get three benefits: assets are correctly revalued and bad debt taken off their balance sheets (a major sticking point in the current bailout plan—how to revalue the assets; my plan avoids this problem because homes are reappraised in the refinancing—the only accurate way to revalue the assets); cash and liquidity as a result of all the prepayments; and a projected $112 billion savings from prevented foreclosures.
• Credit markets are reactivated.
• Small banks that made prudent loans, and homeowners who have kept up with their mortgages are rewarded too.
• Home prices stabilize because less supply is flooding the markets.
• Homeowners are partially compensated for the tremendous loss in home values over the past two years.
• Homeowners get to keep their homes, stabilizing communities and tax base.
• Seven times the amount of money from the recent stimulus package ($100 billion to individuals) is put back into the economy.
• Investors hardly know what they own and where as a result of the securitization. They’d be hard pressed to reach out to homeowners (if the past two years is any indication). However, homeowners know who their lender is and they can initiate action. Added benefit is local jobs.
• Renters and homeowners with no mortgages get no cash assistance, and this may be perceived as unfair. But the likely benefits to their jobs, and home values and pension funds are far greater than the current plan.
• It’s administratively more simple. We have the infrastructure in place to refinance loans. We don’t have the means in place to implement the current plan. Note that the RTC was slow in getting starting, and if all the hype is correct, we can’t wait.
