Republicans, stop calling Obama elitist

Because the real reason you don't like him is that he's smarter than you.

Sept. 5, 2008 New Rule: Republicans need to stop saying Barack Obama is an elitist, or looks down on rural people, and just admit you don't like him because of something he can't help, something that's a result of the way he was born. Admit it, you're not voting for him because he's smarter than you.

In her acceptance speech, Gov. Sarah Palin accused Obama of using his run for the White House as a "journey of personal discovery" -- this from the lady who just spent 10 minutes of her speech introducing her family -- Track, Trig, Bristol, Piper -- for a minute there I thought she was calling in an airstrike.

Karl Rove described Obama as "the guy at the country club with the beautiful date, holding a martini, and making snide comments about everyone who passes by." Unlike George Bush, who's the guy at the country club who makes snide comments, and then passes out. Now this characterization, of course, was something Mr. Rove just completely pulled out of his bulbous, gelatinous ass, but remember this is America, a land where people believe anything they hear. One of McCain's ads casts Obama as "the one," implying he thinks he's the Messiah. Good, maybe he can raise McCain from the dead.

It doesn't matter to Karl Rove that his country club characterization is fictitious, it's the role that Obama must play if the party of plutocrats is going to win over the little guy. Over and over at this convention we heard about the new put-upon victim in our society, the person in America, like Sarah Palin, who's constantly mocked because they're from a ... small town! Governor Yup Yup's got 'em all riled up about being disrespected.

Barack Obama can't help it if he's a magna cum laude Harvard grad and you're a Wal-Mart shopper who resurfaces driveways with your brother-in-law. Americans are so narcissistic that our candidates have to be just like us. That's why George Bush is president. And that's where the McCain camp gets its campaign strategy: Paint Obama as cocky and arrogant and wait for America to vote him off, like the black guy in every reality show. A black president? Half of Pennsylvania isn't ready for black quarterbacks. Forget Obama, they think Will Smith needs to be taken down a peg.

And finally: As for "country first," you know who's putting country first? I am, by supporting Obama, because a victory this fall for the McCain-Mooseburger ticket would make my job in the next four years very, very easy.

To compel a man to subsidize with his taxes the propagation of ideas which
he disbelieves and abhors is sinful and tyrannical. Thomas Jefferson.

how most the country feels

mike m said...

And which ideas are they?

mike m said...

If you look far and wide enough you will find someone who disbelieves an idea. So, does that mean no ideas should be propagated? Or only the ones deemed appropriate?

From my understanding of the revolution, and I could be wrong, it wasn't just taxes, it was taxation without representation (thank you schoolhouse rock).

Folks, here is your new President of the U.S. in action: On his first day in office,Hussein telephoned Mahmoud Abbas ...
"Given that a clip from Al-Jazeera televised Hamas-controlled Palestinians “burning up the phone bank from Gaza” to rally support for his presidential campaign, perhaps the telephone call was made out of gratitude.

Seven days later on January 27, President Obama signed Presidential Determination No. 2009-15, which allocates $20.3 million for Palestinian migration and refugee assistance.

Today a memo sent by President Obama to Secretary of State Hillary Clinton seems to invite Hamas to “migrate” into the United States of America.

The presidential determination covers the “Unexpected Urgent Refugee and Migration Needs Related to Gaza.”

“By the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, including section 2(c)(1) of the Migration and Refugee Assistance Act of 1962 (the “Act”), as amended (22 U.S.C. 2601), I hereby determine, pursuant to section 2 (c) (1) of the Act, that it is important to the national interest to furnish assistance under the Act in an amount not to exceed $20.3 million from the United States Emergency Refugee and Migration Assistance Fund for the purpose of meeting unexpected and urgent refugee and migration needs, including by contributions to international, governmental, and nongovernmental organizations and payment of administrative expenses of Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration of the Department of State, related to humanitarian needs of Palestinian refugees and conflict victims in Gaza. (Italics CFP’s).

“You are authorized and directed to publish this memorandum in the Federal Register,” President Obama instructs the new Secretary of State.

Nah, I just know he's plotting with those bastards!

I'm not sure, but aren't Palestinians actually considered Israeli citizens to a degree? I know a good American like you listens everyday to the BBC report on IPR. But, what do the Brits know about the Israeli Palestinian conflict?

Genie, If you think you know what he's up to, why don't you just say it, and stop pussyfooting around it. Otherwise, all you are doing is trying to undermine his efforts for peace by placing doubt on his motives. I got to give you republicans credit though. You'll keep punching no matter how dismal the future for your party looks. Keep it up. You're digging you're own grave. You've already tossed out the moderates of your party. Personally, I think you are still fighting the civil war. Dang Yankees!

Genie,

Maybe you can explain to me why Gen. Patraeus was paying off Sunni insurgents, with cash, in Iraq. Whatever the reason, it seems to have helped quell the violence, don't you think? Imagine, your tax dollars being used to pay off the people who are responsible for American casualties, for peace.

How many time do I have to tell you - It's a sensationalistic media. And that sensationalism covers the entire political spectrum.

"Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mindfuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Well that's enough to argue.

Well maybe I'm the faggot America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Well that's enough to argue.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
One nation controlled by the media.
Information nation of hysteria.
It's going out to idiot America."

I really don't trust much of the news media. And your Ms. Gabriel, I think her point of view is a bit slanted, so I would take that with a grain of salt. Yes, there is a radical Islam, we've heard the stories, but there are moderates. By trying to control the region with an iron fist, WE are facilitating the rise of the radical wing.

And about those Viagra pills - That was just a payoff to the American pharmaceutical companies.

Seriously though, how many anti-depressants are the Pentagon buying for our soldiers? If morphine and heroin were the drugs of choice in Vietnam, Wellbutrin and Paxil are the DOC in Iraq/Afghan.

When a company falls on difficult times, one of the things that seems to happen is they reduce their staff and workers. The remaining workers need to find ways to continue to do a good job or risk that their job would be eliminated as well. Wall Street and the media normally congratulate the CEO for making this type of "tough decision," and his board of directors gives him a big bonus.

Our government should not be immune from similar risks.

Therefore: Reduce the House of Representatives from the current 435 members to 218 members and Senate members from 100 to 50 (one per State). Also reduce remaining staff by 25%.

Accomplish this over the next 8 years (two steps / two elections). Of course this would require some redistricting.

Some Yearly Monetary Gains Include:

$44,108,400 for elimination of base pay for congress. (267 members X $165,200 pay / member / yr.)

$97,175,000 for elimination of the above people's staff. (estimate $1.3 Million in staff per each member of the House, and $3 Million in staff per each member of the Senate every year)

$7,500,000,000 reduction in pork barrel ear-marks each year. (Current estimates for total government pork earmarks are at $15 Billion / yr)

The remaining representatives would need to work smarter and would need to improve efficiencies. It might even be in their best interests to work together for the good of our country!

We may also expect that smaller committees might lead to a more efficient resolution of issues as well. It might even be easier to keep track of what your representative is doing.

Congress has more tools available to do their jobs than it had back in 1911 when the current number of representatives was established. (telephone, computers, & cell phones to name a few)

Note:
Congress did not hesitate to head home when it was a holiday, when the nation needed a real fix to the economic problems. Also, we have 3 senators that have not been doing their jobs for the past 18+ months (on the campaign trail) and still they all have been accepting full pay. These facts alone support a reduction in senators & congress.

Summary of opportunity:

$ 44,108,400 reduction of congress members.

$282,100,000 for elimination of the reduced house member staff.

$150,000,000 for elimination of reduced senate member staff.

$59,675,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining house members.

$37,500,000 for 25% reduction of staff for remaining senate members.

$7,500,000,000 reduction in pork added to bills by the reduction of congress members.

$8,073,383,400 per year, estimated total savings. (that's 8-BILLION just to start!)

Big business does these types of cuts all the time.

If Congresspersons were required to serve 20, 25 or 30 years (like everyone else) in order to collect retirement benefits there is no telling how much we would save. Now they get full retirement after serving only ONE term.

Cly,
Are you familiar with The Dead Kennedys?

Stars ans Stripes of Corruption

"Finally got to Washington in the middle of the night
I couldn't wait
I headed straight for the Capitol Mall
My heart began to pound
Yahoo! It really exists
The American International Pictures logo

I looked up at that Capitol Building
Couldn't help but wonder why
I felt like saying "Hello, old friend"

Walked up the hill to touch it
Then I unzipped my pants
And pissed on it when nobody was looking

Like a great eternal Klansman
With his two flashing red eyes
Turn around he's always watching
The Washington monument pricks the sky
With flags like pubic hair ringed 'round the bottom

The symbols of our heritage
Lit up proudly in the night
Somehow fits to see the homeless people
Passed out on the lawn

So this is where it happens
The power games and bribes
All lobbying for a piece of ass

Of the stars and stripes of corruption
Makes me feel so ashamed
To be an American
When we're too stuck up to learn from our mistakes
Trying to start another Viet Nam
Whilke fiddling while Rome burns at home
The Boss says, "You're laid off. Blame the Japanese"
"America's back," alright
At the game it plays the worst
Strip mining the world like a slave plantation

No wonder others hate us
And the Hitlers we handpick
To bleed their people dry
For our evil empire

The drug we're fed
To make us like it
Is God and country with a band

People we know who should know better
Howl, "America riles. Let's go to war!"
Business scams are what's worth dying for

Are the Soviets our worst enemy?
We're destroying ourselves instead
Who cares about our civil rights
As long as I get paid?

The blind Me-Generation
Doesn't care if life's a lie

so easily used, so proud to enforce

The stars and stripes of corruption
Let's bring it all down!
Tell me who's the real patriots
The Archie Bunker slobs waving flags?
Or the people with the guts to work
For some real change
Rednecks and bombs don't make us strong
We loot the world, yet we can't even feed ourselves
Our real test of strength is caring
Not the toys of war we sell the world
Just carry on, thankful to be farmed like worms
Old glory for a blanket
As you suck on your thumbs

Real freedom scares you
'Cos it means responsibility

So you chicken out and threaten me

Saying, "Love it or leave it"
I'll get beat up if I criticize it
You say you'll fight to the death
To save your worthless flag

If you want a banana republic that bad
Why don't you go move to one
But what can just one of us do?
Against all that money and power
Trying to crush us into roaches?

We don't destroy society in a day
Until we change ourselves first
From the inside out

We can start by not lying so much
And treating other people like dirt
It's easy not to base our lives
On how much we can scam

And you know
It feels good to lift that monkey off our backs

I'm thankful I live in a place
Where I can say the things I do
Without being taken out and shot
So I'm on guard against the goons
Trying to take my rights away
We've got to rise above the need for cops and laws

Let kids learn communication
Instead of schools pushing competition
How about more art and theater instead of sports?

People will always do drugs
Let's legalize them
Crime drops when the mob can't price them
Budget's in the red?
Let's tax religion

No one will do it for us
We'll just have to fix ourselves
Honesty ain't all that hard
Just put Rambo back inside your pants
Causing trouble for the system is much more fun

Thank you for the toilet paper
But your flag is meaningless to me
Look around, we're all people
Who needs countries anyway?

Our land, I love it too
I think I love it more than you
I care enough to fight

The stars and stripes of corruption
Let's bring it all down!
If we don't try
If we just lie
If we can't find
A way to do it better than this
Who will?"

Those perks could easily add up to another billion or two during their stay in Congress.
It's up to us. We the people ~ yeah, right ~ to make changes. What's happened? We're so far into the tar pit we may never get out.
Lincoln said something to the effect that America could never be defeated except from it's inside. Hang on, we're getting there.
We're getting there.

mike m said...

Damn Genie,

We agree on something!

Although, about being overpaid - yes for the amount of work but, there are those who would argue that, if they were paid more, they would be less likely to be corrupt. Personally, I think corruption is more of a state of mind - criminal mind. And, it has spread through our government like communism.

The city of Philadelphia is one of the most corrupt governments on the planet. I think they invented "pay to play". Now, the Mayor, and City Council have signed agreements to move towards full public finance of campaigns. I'm not sure public finance is the best answer. The taxpayer is being "forced" to donate to campaigns. But, all things being equal...
the taxpayer gets a much better deal.

Hi Bill

I don't know if you would ever have the time to read my comment, but if you do, let me tell you I really value the viewpoint that you have on religion.

I come from a country that 90%+ of the people are born Muslims, and I highly believe your notion about the "Fairy Tales". Its year 2009, and if someone believes that a regular person ( Moses, Jesus or mohammad) talks with God, and gets mission from him, you really have to doubt their intelligence.

I would have to say that religions are made by humans for humans, so the ones who created it would profit from it.

The whole idea of thinking that a religion ( doesnt matter which one !) holds all the truth is quite preposterous and closes the doors to critical thinking, since one believes that " we have all the truth, then why think about it."

The last thing that I would like to mention is the "Theocracy Issue." 99.9% Of goverments who have in some way religious leaders believe that they represent God, and this belief can be fairly dangerous, since you do whatever you wish, and sign it under the name & permission of God.

Best Regards,

CJ

Well, Barak Obama is now the President of the United States of America. And I finally have the answer as to why there was so much media attention given to this past election. Ralph Epperson authored a book entitled, “The Unseen Hand,” and in this book he exposes one of the most effective tactics that the government uses when they want to create and implement something that they know the people would not agree with. This tactic is called “distraction.” Well, the not only were the people in Amerikkka distracted; the entire world was distracted by the past election circus. So many thousands of our people are still rejoicing over what they think they did by getting out there and voting.

This was truly the greatest distraction of all time.

Memorandum 46 (NSCM/46) or not, but just in case you haven’t, allow me to include some of its points here.

(By the way, NSCM/46 was signed into law under Presidential Executive Order in March 1978. It was written by Zbigniew Brezinski, who was the National Security Advisor at that time, and is PRESENTLY Barak Obama’s chief advisor.)

Notice some of the wording of NSCM/46…

“The objective of our policy toward Black Africa is to prevent social upheavals which could radically change the political situation throughout the area. The success or failure of our policy in the region depends on the solution international and internal issues whose importance of the United States is on the increase.

II. A. U.S. INTERESTS IN BLACK AFRICA

A multiplicity of interests influences the U.S. attitude toward black Africa. The most important of these interests can be summarized as follows:

1. POLITICAL

If black African states assume attitudes hostile to the U.S. national interest, our policy toward the white regimes; which is a key element in our relations with the black states, may be subjected by the latter to great pressure for fundamental change. Thus the West may face a real danger of being deprived of access to the enormous raw material resources of southern Africa which are viral for our defense needs as well as losing control over the Cape sea routes by which approximately 65% of Middle Eastern oil is supplied to Western Europe.

2. ECONOMIC

Black Africa is increasingly becoming an outlet for U.S. exports and investment. The mineral resources of the area continue to be of great value for the normal functioning of industry in the United States and allied countries. In 1977, U.S. direct investment in black Africa totaled about $1.8 billion and exports $2.2 billion. New prospect of substantial profits would continue to develop in the countries concerned.

Internationally, damage could be done to the United States by coordinated activity of African states designed to condemn U.S. policy toward South Africa, and initiate discussions on the U.S. racial issue at the United Nations where the African representation constitutes a powerful bloc with about one third of all the votes.

3. Political options

In the context of long-term strategy, the United States can not afford a radical change in the fundamentals of its African policy, which is designed for maximum protection of national security. In the present case, emphasis is laid on the importance of Black Africa for U.S. political, economic and military interests.

The FBI should mount surveillance operations against Black African representatives and collect sensitive information on those, especially at the U.N., who oppose U.S. policy toward South Africa. The information should include facts on their links with the leaders of the Black movement in the United States, thus making possible at least partial neutralization of the adverse effects of their activity.

B. THE RANGE OF POLICY OPTIONS

The concern for the future security of the United States makes necessary the range of policy options.

(h) to support the nomination at federal and local levels of loyal Black public figures to elective offices, to government agencies and the Court. This would promote the achievement of a twofold purpose:

first, it would be easier to control the activity of loyal black representatives within existing institutions;

second, the idea of an independent black political party now under discussion within black leadership circles would soon lose all support.

Now, remember, this NSCM was done in March of 1978 by the hand of the then National Security Advisor, Zbigniew Brezinski. Is it any matter that this same person selected Barak Obama while he was a law student in college, groomed him, trained him, and is de facto his “daddy” in world affairs? What is so hard to see here?

Now, the Brezinski protégé (Barak Obama) is the Commander in Chief of AFRICOM. And in case it got pass you, AFRICOM is acronym of the U.S. military take over of the ENTIRE continent of Africa (except Egypt). But then again, the U.S. Census Bureau decided years ago that Egypt wasn’t in Africa anyway (it is now in the Middle East according to them).

How is it that something of this magnitude was not mentioned in any of Obama’s speeches…not a word. Maybe it’s because he knew that if he said one word about AFRICOM that Black people would have said, “Wait a minute here…what are you trying to do man? Get us to vote you in so that you can be the one who carries out the Global 2000 program to eliminate 75% of the world’s non-white population?” (See NSCM/200)

Well, my people THAT’S exactly what has been done. And the most insulting part of it all is that the people who own Barak Obama (i.e., The Rothchilds, Oppenheimers, Schiffs, and other members of The Crown) have appointed chocolate-colored men (i.e., Barak Obama & General William “Kip” Ward, et al.) to carry this out. In this way, the Black people of the world (who don’t know better) cannot cry, “GENOCIDE AND RACISM.”

And of course, Secretary of State Hillary is the white “monitor” to make sure that the “negroes” do as they are told. (Just like back in the days when the slave oppressors would allow Black to gather for religious services; they couldn’t meet without a “monitor” to make sure that the negroes were behaving.) Just read her address before the Senate Committee and see how she outlined “Obama’s Africa Policy” at http://www.africom.mil/getArticle.asp?art=2493&.

In closing, I must say to those Black people who so eagerly praised and supported the program to elect Obama, I have to congratulate you for your commitment and support to the agenda of the system that owns Obama. I am happy that you are happy. You have done exactly what the powers that be wanted you to do. I know that you didn’t mean any harm. Just the idea of “a Black man” becoming the President of the United States made you stop thinking just long enough for them to implement their program with little or no resistance from the very people who are the children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of Africa.

Michael,

"t should always be the best person capable of doing the job not the popular one whom has been groomed for the last 6 years by left wingnut extreamest."

How about the one we had for eight years who was groomed by the "right wingnut extremists"? I agree it should be the most qualified. But we all know that ain't gonna happen - ever.

Government's money vs. People's money. Let me explain - once you sign that check and stick it in the mail slot, it is no longer your money! You can't say "I'll give you this money if...". (That only works for corporate lobbyists.) You have a right to express your opinion on how it is spent - that is all. The only thing you can do is vote for a few of the people who have control over it (Pres, Rep, Sen).

The Africa Policy - I'm not sure where you get your facts from, or if they are accurate. But, if I give you the benefit of doubt, That is an example of American Imperialism. It has been going on for a very long time all over the world. We Americans have an inborn need to dominate and posses that which we feel is "ours" - or should be "ours". That is why others around the world hate us, and want to fly planes into our buildings.

independent_thinker,

Another "hit and run" post, huh? Where's the substance, man? Perhaps a creative writing class at your local community college would help. At least Michael formed an opinion based on facts and observations. I only question the accuracy because I have not heard anything about this, and I am not familiar with africom. I did give him the benefit of the doubt. I actually agree with most of what he said, but I got the impression that he feels these actions are only perpetrated by the left, when it is obvious, that it is both sides of the isle that engage in imperialistic actions. Actions which we learned from the Brits. He sees it as genocide and racism, but I feel it's just that good old American greed and domination.

What, exactly, are your thoughts on American Imperialism in the 21st century?

Anonymous said...

Unlike you and your looney left friends, I don't believe in "American Imperialism"! I believe in "Freedom" for every country and to live without fear each day. Now, those days are gone! Time will tell.

Now I hit so now I'm runnin'!

mike m said...

Freedom for every country...

Does that include placing a puppet dictator in power to control the masses so America can rob, rape, and pillage the natural resources? Are the residents free to elect whomever they want? Or are they only allowed to elect those who we deem "appropriate"? Will they be allowed to determine their own fate without fear of American interference? Who are we to say "We know what's best for you, trust us." Should we be allowed to force our will on other sovereign nations regardless of their political climates?

After you've answered all these questions, turn the situation around, and view it as if another country were trying to do it to us.

geniemaker said...

Genie,

I understand that. The problem is, people in other countries don't. And it's difficult to explain that to someone after you've just dropped a bomb from an unmanned drone on their village. Don't you get it? The US does not have the right to go into another country and force their will on others any more than Russia or China have the right to. What don't you understand? There are rules. If we break the rules, others will also - eventually leading to WWIII.

Do you cheat at poker? If the guy across from you were cheating, would you put your fist in his face? Would you expect him to do the same to you if he caught you cheating?

"If you ain't with us you're against us. Simple as that."

- for simple minded people.

I know you feel it should read "One world under God". But if that were the case, who would loaning us the money to bail out our financial institutions right now? They won't admit it, but the rest of the world is very pissed off at us right now. The big financial institutions created this worldwide recession. Our investment banks sold mortgage backed securities and collateralized debt obligations (CDO) all over the world. There was an excellent program on CNBC called "House of Cards" that explained exactly what they did, and how they did it. And all it really boiled down to was pure, unadulterated greed. That's the kind of shit that really makes you proud to be an American. We are so far behind the Europeans it's scary. We're still living in the dark ages compared to them. And all this "proud to be American" crap, is just holding us back. People like you are so afraid of change. You've been living in your little hole so long, you can't even see the light of day. Americans are the laziest, most irresponsible people on the planet and can't be trusted with true freedom. At least that's how the powers that be, feel.

We'll never, in this lifetime, know the real truth about invading Iraq, even after seeing "W" (bad intel, but then Saddam had 5 years warning to get rid of WMD). Maybe you've forgotten he used mustard gas to kill off an entire Kurdish city including any thing that breathed. Did you see the pix of US servicemen with blisters on their arms and hands from finding tanks of said gas in Iraq on your local or national TV news? Of course not. In fact, so much is not told in a meaningful, unbiased and honest manner by our so-called MSM, your average American (read sheeple) really need to read news from Australia, Canada, France, UK and other civilized countries to know what the world is saying/thinking about US politics WITHOUT political bias and bs. We have met the enemy and they is you and clydene.

Just tired of your kind, you're uninformed and bigoted self. The problem is that you answer every argument the same way, which isn't really a great reflection on your debate skills, or lack there of.

And you Sir or Madam are a Racist Bigot. Why not reread your lovely posts, again your answer is love it or leave it.

Well, someone's got to fix what Bush/Cheyney broke. We certainly can't expect the republicans to do it. All they care about is spreading mis-information about the democrats and making them look bad. (Of course Pelosi and Reid don't need much help). They don't have a clue as to what to do. Ask them a question, they push the corresponding button and spit out a pre-recorded message.

Stimulus - Button (3) It's not really stimulus. It's just wasteful spending and doesn't create any jobs.

Bank bailout - Button (5) The American people want to know "Where's my bailout?"

Illegal Immigration Button (12) They do the jobs that Americans don't want to do.

clydene said...

Hey Mike,

You gotta admit that cartoon was a pretty offensive cartoon. The only thing worse is all the attention is giving the dip stick that drew the thing; both he and the editor should either go for sensitivity training or be fired. OOOPS I am living in Genie's black and white world. :)

mike m said...

Well, it depends how you look at it. I had heard someone say before this cartoon was published that a bunch of monkeys could do a better job running the economy than the government, so I didn't even draw the "black" conclusion when I saw it.

It was a shame they had to shoot that chimp. But I blame that wacky owner. Nobody should be allowed to own a non-domesticated animal that has the power to kill someone without proper training and knowledge. Even then it's risky. Look at what happened to the guy from sigfried and roy. (I think that's how you spell it). And those guys were "experts".

I don't understand all this bullshit with the mortgage bailout. They are trying to over complicate the issue. Just let these people go into bankruptcy court with their mortgages and renegotiate the terms. And if they can't afford it, throw them out and give them some rent money. If the banks get screwed out of money, then the gov. can step in and reimburse. It's ridiculous to let the banks reneg. on their own. They are the ones who wrote the bad loans in the first place!

Hey, in my state, mortgages are allowed to be considered in bankruptcy court. We don't have nearly the problems other states are having. Want to know why? Fear of bankruptcy keeps the lenders honest. Yes, it's more difficult to get a loan, but...

United States and Genie,

The New York Post "Cartoon" was not about Obama being the first "Black" President. It was about some RACIST comparing Obama to a Chimpanzee; Because the photo on the preceeding page, page 11 was of Obama signing the stimulus package, then page 12 was the "editorial" cartoon.

The Editor should be fired and so should the artist Sean Delonas is a hateful man. It is offensive, and it was a comparison of President Obama to a Chimpanzee. African Americans have been compared to apes in the past in order to characterize them as less human. It is wrong.

That is not an expression of freedom of speech, it is an expression of racism and hate. Again, the editor and Sean Delonas should be fired. NOT FUNNY!

geniemaker said...

clydene: not only are you an idiot, you're a bigoted idiot, and so are all the people who took offense. You are the ones that are making this an issue. When I saw the cartoon the last thing on my mind was Hussein.
You're right down there with the "Rev" Al and his ilk.
FREEDOM OF THE PRESS (SPEECH)~ read the US Constitution.
I wish those of you with so-called"sensitivies" and political correctness (which will bring on the demise of this great Country) would care more about matters of substance instead of nitpicking and dictating to the FREE PRESS what should and shouldn't be published.
Where is the outrage about Hussein being in bed with a traitorous "college professor" (Ayres), convicted felon (Rezko), G-d damning "spiritual" mentor (Wright) of 20 years, and last but not least that travesty of dignity and honesty ACORN?
People like you will be the downfall of America and you can take that to the bank.

clydene said...

Genie,

You to see the New York Post and how they placed the articles. Page 11 picture of President Obama and then page 12 the "editorial" cartoon.

Fine, yes there is freedom of speech...but there is also freedom to act, to boycott the advertisers of the New York Post; Oh, and by the way, maybe you should read all the comments from the editors and writers at THE NEW YORK POST who were outraged by the cartoon.

Yeah, let them publish what they want, but also everyone should boycott the businesses that advertise with the New York Post.

clydene said...

Who is BIGOTED you stupid woman...again with the Hussein CRAP...and Ayres. Guilt by association.

The artist was eluding to the racial slur of calling African Amerians - Chimps and Apes. ARE YOU FOR REAL.

Yes, better to have that Lying Meth Whore from Wasilla in the White House. The woman who was pregnant when she got married. The woman who is raising a daughter who had a bastard out of wedlock. GREAT CHRISTIAN VALUES.

mike m said...

C'mon now. It was just a bad joke. It didn't pass the smell test and somehow it got through. The NY Post is notorious for bad jokes. Who do you think came up with "A-Roid" for Alex "A-Rod" Rodriguez? Actually, A-Roid makes me think he has a problem with his A-Hole.

Get it? Instead of steroid, it's hemorrhoid.

Anyway, it could have been worse. The two cops in the cartoon could have been wearing white hoods, and there could have been a sign on the dead chip that read "President". I think people are just a little too thin skinned, and some are just looking for an excuse, rather than addressing the real issues in an open forum.

Cly,
I know you're just upset that they had to shoot that poor chimp. They should have shot the bitch that gave him Xanax.

Ron Paul ant the Libertarians have no clue. I just watched the interview with him again. He said that too much regulation and huge deficits got us into this mess. Really? 20 years ago, because of regulations, banks were not allowed to sell mortgages. 10 years ago, we had a budget surplus. 50 years ago, there were business leaders who actually had ethics and cared about more than just making more money. Now, corporate board members and CEOs are nothing more than used car salesmen.

Nationalization is the real problem confronting Capitalism. People talk about small businesses being the backbone of this country. The problem is there are no small businesses anymore. A local restaurant is not a small business. A small specialty store on a revitalized "Main Street" is not a small business. The reason is that there is little hope, and sometimes little desire, for growth and expansion. The only real hope is that a large corporation will recognize a product or idea and purchase the rights for million of dollars. You have a better chance hitting the lottery. Or you can try to meet national goals by going public with your company, in order to raise capital necessary. That's what happened to the .coms of the 90s. The lure of private investment through the stock market. It's not a loan. You have to pay dividends every quarter. Imagine having a business with 1,000 partners. Each with their hand in the till eating up all the profits. And on top of that, you have short sellers, mutual funds and hedge funds buying and selling pieces of your company based solely on the share price, not the actual value.

Here's how business used to work. Let's say you had an idea for a product. you saved some money, and went to a bank and borrowed some more money. You started producing your product and were able to sell it. Instead of taking all the net profits for yourself, you took some and reinvested it in the business. This reinvestment went towards modest expansion, so long as there was a market for your product. Then after your loan was paid off you borrowed a little more money, and expanded some more. Today, this is so far from reality, its laughable. Actually, its just plain sad.

Let's say you were able to get that initial loan. Where are you going to sell your product? Maybe, if you can find one, you might be able to sell it in a small or regional retailer. But there are no more small retailers, and regional retailers are either following the trend and moving towards nationalization, or going out of business. You sure as shit can't walk into Wal-Mart or Home Depot and try to sell your product in the local store. Regional managers don't have that option anymore. Home Depot used to sell Duron Paint (Baltimore) regionally. The corporate boys at Home Depot said "no more". No more regional selling or buying. So, what happened to Duron? Bought by Sherwin Williams. Finnaren and Haley? Bought by Benjamin Moore. Zinnser? Bought by RPM. MAB? Bought by SW. Along with all the sundries manufacturers. Not only is it near impossible to compete, there's no vehicle for retailing for the small, growth oriented, business unless you're selling directly to a large corporation. But in that case you don't have the flexibility to grow at your own pace. In order to meet the demands of a nationalized corporation, you need the capabilities to mass produce. The only way to get that kind of capital is to go public and sell shares of your company.

So, what's the answer? Where can a hopeful entrepreneur retail his product without the demands from a large corporation? The same place you can sell an attic full of junk. The same place you can sell "gray" market merchandise. It's probably a step below selling Avon or Amway but, if done properly, there is huge potential for growth. You can start in your spare time, in your garage or basement. And after a while, if your selling, you have a sales history to take to the bank or SBA. And then when a large corporation comes knocking, wanting to buy the rights to market your product, don't be greedy, tell them to go fuck themselves.

Everybody is so upset about AIG giving bonuses to their financial products division. I'm not. They are entitled to them. Just as much as the Octomom is entitled to welfare and food stamps. "Entitlements" are not the problem in this country, it's the "entitlement mentality" that's the problem. And it stretches across the entire income spectrum. And it is all pushed by lobbyists. Just like the woman that sued McDonald's for $1,000,000 when she was scalded when she spilled hot coffee on herself. It was the lawyer. Lawyers, lobbyists, whatever, it's all the same. No morals, no ethics, just greed. The government can't legislate ethics or morals. We, as consumers, don't have boycott power because we rely so heavily on just a few, huge corporations, whose failure would cause "systemic" collapse. And they know this. This is not a left, right issue or a Socialist, Libertarian issue. It comes down to, who do we want running this country. The government or the big corporate conglomerate? Maybe it's not even a choice between the two. Maybe we just need to separate the two. The boundaries between government and business have become blurred. The constitution separates "church and state". At the time the constitution was written, Religion was much more powerful than business. Had business been as powerful, would the framers have included a separation of business and state amendment? That sounds a little too "ultra free market Libertarian". But, if something like this had been in place from the very beginning, would we really need government regulations to protect consumers and the overall economy? It's a moot point, because we can't go back in time, and we can't undo everything and start over. That would be extremely impractical, to say the least.
Does government control business, or does business control government? There are numerous examples of both. why did the government break up AT&T? Why did the government fire the air traffic controllers? Why did the investment companies have the government deregulate mortgage securitization, and 30:1 leveraging? How did Nancy Pelosi get republicans to vote for a 90% tax increase? I'll tell you. People are pissed!

Back to AIG. The people who received the bonuses should be collecting unemployment. The argument is - they created the mess, they are the best equipped to fix it. So, why not take a hundred dollar bill (bonus), tear it in half, give one half to the recipient, keep one half and say you'll get the other half when you fix the mess. That's called INCENTIVE.

This country is at a philosophical crossroad. To take a philosophical point from a religious doctrine - greed is one of the seven deadly sins. But it's not just greed of Wall Street investors and corporate board rooms, or even politicians. Greed feeds greed. Bernie Madoff gave us an invaluable service. He held a mirror up to our faces. Individual investors were not satisfied with a 6-7% return with a S&P indexed mutual fund, they had to go for the 10-12% Madoff was offering. They didn't care where the money was coming from. I guess they care now.
Boycott power from a consumer point of view is gone. But it has been replaced with individual investor boycott power. Tell your broker exactly where you want you're money. If you don't like something GE did, tell him to sell you're shares, even if it means you won't make "as much" money. And tell you're friends and co-workers. We can force morality and ethics on the business world, but only if we start with ourselves.

So the beast resides in me
Deep down I always knew
I never really did fit in
So diverse from all of you
Let him who comprehends
Know the number of the beast
It's a number of a man
A number just for me
As the boy becomes a man
Father's minions pave the way
Set in motion now, Armageddon,
Final conflict, end of days
I embrace the hounds of hell
And the power they oblige
For the task that lies ahead
The Nazarene I'll crucify
They'll see the raptures of our kingdom
They'll see the truth to mankind
I'll show what hell truly is
The monotony of their lives

When the Jews return to Zion
And a comet fills the sky
The Holy Roman Empire rises
And you and I must die
From the eternal sea he rises
Creating armies on either shore
Turning man against his brother
Till man exists no more

"Nazarene, what can you offer?
Since the hour you vomited forth
from the gaping womb of a woman,
you have done nothing but drown mens' soaring desires in a deluge of
sanctimonious morality.
I was conceived of a jackal.
Your pain on the cross was but a splinter
compared to the agony of my father.
I will drive deeper the thorns into your rancid carcass,
you profaner of Isis.
Cursed Nazarene, I will avenge thy torment."
Now Disciples of the Watch
See your Prince of Darkness rise
Through famine and destruction
The Four Horsemen at my side
I demand a victory, I demand a sacrifice
Or spend all eternityIn the flaccid gut of Christ!

When the Jews return to Zion
And a comet fills the sky
The Holy Roman Empire rises
And you and I must die
From the eternal sea he rises
Creating armies on either shore
Turning man against his brother
Till man exists no more

This is a very impressive woman. Can anyone tell me who she is?

Guess Who

In case your brain missed it!

SHE'S THE QUEEN OF JORDAN!

I posted it a few post above but wanted to make sure your Pea-Brain caught it!

mike m said...

In case your brain missed it!

SHE'S THE QUEEN OF JORDAN!

Which Queen of Jordan? Do any of your republican buddies have the balls to be flown into jungles of Columbia to negotiate with Guerrillas? No, I doubt it. The cowardly thing to do is just bomb them. Even though many of their weapons are probably smuggled from Mexico, which were, of course, bought legally in the US. I own two shotguns. I have no desire to own any handguns or automatic weapons, so I have no trouble supporting a ban on assault weapons. However, if the government decides to ban shotguns, let them come and try to take them!

"I do not and will never support a President who bashed "My Country" on foreign soil!"

You're just pissed because he bashed W, not the US. Sometimes you have to kiss a little ass. THAT'S LIFE. I don't know what type of sheltered world you live in. I know it would be so nice if we could just MAKE the rest of the world do exactly what we want them to do or not do. And if they refuse, we can just bomb them, and send our children to die, trying to kill them all off. You really need to get off of this "you're either with us or against us" mentality. The world is so much more complicated than that. If you can't see that, I pity you.

We all need to try to get along. There are just too many fucking nuclear weapons out there. Do you really think we can just make people and countries do what we want them to do? Yes, we are the richest and the strongest. But have you ever read Gulliver's Travels? David and Goliath? The mighty can tumble, if not careful. The US has a huge responsibility in the rest of the world. We need to start acting like reasonable, responsible people again, even if it means getting our nose bloodied by wacko fundamentalists. Yeah, they brought down the towers. But what about that building in Oklahoma City? Who was responsible for that?

"Hey mike_m...why don't "you" call Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Kim Jong to see if they want to join our campfire singing and roasting marshmellows!"

Well, what do you suggest we do? Go to war, again? Do you really think that will solve anything? Do you really think they want a nuke so that they can drop it on us or Israel? I'll let you in on a little secret. They want a nuke because they know we won't invade their country if they have one. It's the ultimate bargaining chip.

You think, act and respond based on fear. Oh no, there are people out there that want us dead. No fucking shit. Always have been, always will be. That's the price for being the toughest kid on the block.

There's a place where kindness and compassion are the ultimate signs of weakness. EVERY person there prides themselves on not being kind or considerate. In fact, it is a direct measure of strength. I get the feeling that's how you think this country should be run. Let me tell you, the place I'm talking about is prison. I don't know if you've ever been there. I have. That's no way to live.

Guess Who is Queen Noor of Jordan, an American who married the late King Hussein, and now mother of the King of Jordan. Her American name is Lisa Halaby and she is half Lebanese.
She is correctly referred to as the "Dowager Queen" of Jordan.

geniemaker said...

mikey: I think, therefore I am, that you want the world to be safe and sane. We all do.
No one in their right mind likes war.
Your comment: "We all need to try to get along." is well-taken. What is bedeviling not only our great Country but the entire world is how do you reason with insane people? Raising and praising children, then rewarding their parents, to be suicide-murderers, combantants hiding in hospitals and schools, kidnapping and beheading innocent foreigners, throwing acid on little girls on their way to school, locking the doors then torching a girl's school murdering every one inside, running over a 7-yr-old boy's arm with a car because he stole a loaf of bread ( guess that's better than cutting off the limb), bombing civilian-pilgrims on their way to/from or in their places of worship, murdering aid workers, civilians who are in their country to help them, for no reason, the list is disgustingly long.
Then there's the bombing of the Marine barracks in Lebanon, the American embassies in Africa, the USS Cole, the Twin Towers in the 90's, then 9/11 (I know there were other prior outrages against the US).
How do you "get along" with lunatics like this?
Many people confuse gentility (civility) with stupidity.
We are so politically correct in this country we are eroding. Yes, even the Roman Empire crumbled.
Once you've lost the upper hand which in today's world, unfortunately, means might (strength), you will lose.
I wish I had the answer to deal with those who wish us ill but the only thing that comes to mind is superior weaponry and military forces.
As the late President Kennedy said " . . . we will bear any burden . . ."

America the Beautiful
Words by Katharine Lee Bates,
Melody by Samuel Ward

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassioned stress
A thoroughfare of freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God mend thine every flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law!

O beautiful for heroes proved
In liberating strife.
Who more than self their country loved
And mercy more than life!
America! America!
May God thy gold refine
Till all success be nobleness
And every gain divine!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for halcyon skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the enameled plain!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till souls wax fair as earth and air
And music-hearted sea!

O beautiful for pilgrims feet,
Whose stem impassioned stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till paths be wrought through
wilds of thought
By pilgrim foot and knee!

O beautiful for glory-tale
Of liberating strife
When once and twice,
for man's avail
Men lavished precious life!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till selfish gain no longer stain
The banner of the free!

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears!
America! America!
God shed his grace on thee
Till nobler men keep once again
Thy whiter jubilee!

I don't know where you get this anti-American stuff. Now you're going too far with this patriotic flag sucking. You're just as much of the problem as those politically correct assholes. You're too patriotically correct! Hey, I like that. I just made that up. Patriotical correctness. It sounds a little better than flag sucker. A large number of patriotically correct people gathered together would be a patriotic orgy. There's certainly nothing wrong with believing in your country, but some people take it to the extreme. They use it when they can't win an argument. "Yeah, well you're unpatriotic." Just like many of those same people take religion to the extreme. They try to win arguments based on their own personal beliefs in God and their own interpretation of the Bible or the Koran.

Here's a way to defend the flag. Let's take all those "terrorists" we've captured, line them up, and make them all masturbate in front of a female soldier, while she makes fun of the size of their penises. That will keep us safe for sure. That's the direction I want to see this country going in, again. How about more supply side economics? 25 years of Laffer Curve taxation has gotten us into this mess. All it does is make the rich, richer, the poor, poorer and the middle class, well, struggles to maintain a decent standard of living. Stagnated wages, increased debt (both personal and national), and fewer jobs. Huge corporations controlling the country's wealth, that have absolutely no sense of civic duty. Their only concern is getting more money and shifting more of the debt and risk to the consumer and the government. If you can't see that this will be our ultimate demise, there's something seriously wrong with you. I'm not trying to tell you how to think, just think! Stop listening to all those special interest controlled sources.
The flag doesn't offend me. What offends me is people that use the flag to push their own personal agenda, because they don't know how to formulate a real argument.

mike m said...

So, you don't like the direction this country is heading in? I guess you think the government shouldn't have forced GM CEO to resign? Is that too much government intervention? Let me tell you, there isn't one GM shareholder who didn't want to see Wagoner out. How "American" is it that the shareholders (owners)of a company have no say in who runs the company? The people that are complaining are the ones who want to see GM fail and go into an unstructured bankruptcy. They are the "bottom feeders". They want to go in and buy up everything they can at rock bottom prices, then, sell off what they can and make a fortune - at the expense of the shareholders, the workers and the suppliers. They are worse than ambulance chasers. Don't get me wrong, these bottom feeders have their place in a capitalist (corporate) system. But for a company that large, it would be disastrous for the country in general. They are also the ones who don't want AIG to be bailed out. So, now you know one of the special interests that oppose Obama's recovery plan. Any questions?

The Obama "bow" is still burning up the right wing airways and blogs. I guess that was the most important part of his 6 countries in 8 days trip. It was about as important as what Michele was wearing. Both cases are a sign of American vanity. Is this what we, as Americans really care about? We talk about freedom, and democracy and show "concern" for certain important issues. But when it comes down to it, nobody wants to spend the time to really "understand" them. That's too much work. It's so much easier to just write someone off because of a protocol faux pas, or admire someone because of their clothes. Why isn't anyone talking about what happened in all those meetings? I mean really talking about it. Like the missile defense issue that was discussed with Russia?

Yeah, let's talk about Beavis and Butthead. That will certainly solve all of our problems.

Personally, I don't care if he bowed, or whipped out his big black dick and waved it at him. At least he didn't puke on anyone like Bush 41. Now that's embarrassing!!!

The Republican Party really seems to be in a state of disarray. Republicans can't agree on whether Obama is a Communist, Socialist Fascist, Muslim or what. He certainly can't be both a Commie and a Fascist. That's completely opposite ends of the political spectrum. One thing for sure, none of this name calling seems to have any effect on his approval rating, which is holding steady at about 62%. That's all of the democrats and almost all of independents. It just makes republicans seem like sore losers. They are completely lacking any true leadership.

As long as Obama continues to undo the mistakes of the Bush administration, I really don't see his approval rating changing all that much. Right or wrong, most Americans blame Bush for this near depression. Republicans don't really have an answer except for calling for "free" markets (more deregulation) and more tax breaks for the wealthy. Americans see this as the direct causes of the problems we are now facing. The republican "one liners" like socialized medicine and amnesty for illegal immigrants just aren't working anymore. The other night I saw Pat Buchanan saying over and over again DEAD BABIES, DEAD BABIES, DEAD BABIES Americans aren't buying that brain dead mind control anymore. They want real solutions, not just catch phrases.

Abortion, gay marriage and stem cell research are antiquated issues for most Americans.

The main criticism of the democrats is that they are spending too much money. But most economists say that the government needs to spend money right now. Some say the government isn't spending enough. The only economists that disagree with this are the ones from The Heritage Foundation. They are preaching more deregulation and tax cuts for the wealthy. Go figure.

But for as bleak as it looks for the republicans, it was just as bleak for the democrats 8 years ago. The wheel will come around again, eventually.

Let me make this real simple for you. Crude Oil, natural gas and coal are fossil fuels. What that means is that they are "left over" from when the Earth was formed. The Earth does not "produce" these substances. So, just as sure as the Earth is round, just as sure as we put a man on the moon, the planet will eventually "run out".So, you can pay me now, or pay me later.

geniemaker said...

mike ~ thanks for turning me on to Canada Free Press. So damn refreshing to read the truth without the slobbering crap that goes on in US media about POSIC Hussein.

Unknown said...

mike i do agree that these are fossil fuels and they will eventually go by the wayside but with that said. i also believe that our consumption of foreign oil puts us at greater economic risk and as i see it we don't need any more hits to the economy. I also agree that we need to explore and perfect alternative sources of energy, many of these energy sources are in there infancy stages of research and will not be perfected until way into the distant future when we won't even be a memory anymore. lack of funding will be the main reason for the delay of technological advances
I live in Santa barbara ca. our state has one of the biggest deficits of any state in the union we also have one of the biggest oil deposits in the world in our waters off the coast. platforms have been in place and have been sitting idle for over two decades!! we could reduce our deficit and pump more money into the development of these alternative energies so we can perfect them at faster rate by pumping from one platform for half a year. also reducing our consumption of foreign oil but it would also create jobs not only in the fossil fuel industry but also in the development and implementation of an alternative energy infrastructure which in turn would inject more cash into the economy creating more growth...we have the technology to do both whats the hold up? oh ya the lobbiest would be out of a job and it doesn' make sense anyway

"Now, you know you have to be polite, it will go along way to getting you in the doors on judgement day".
Personally, I think anyone who spends all that time tring to convince me of their friendship isn't going to have enough time to be President.
And let's face it...we are Americans. We are all elitists. It's in our blood. Bangers don't like whitey, crypts don't like bloods, blue collars don't like white collars. We are all little cliquish gangs being swayed by our congregations to do what they feel is in our best interest.......you know, to be like them :)

That canadafreepress article was intentionally written to appeal to conservatives. Is that news? Is that how news is supposed to be reported? I guess it is if you want to make money. Right wing bias is just as bad as left wing bias. This isn't a contest or a game to see who is better. This is supposed to be about getting people the information they need to make decisions. That article lacked all signs of any journalistic integrity. It was written by a Rush Limbaugh wannabe.

The Barbarians are pushing at the gate of the Global Warming fraud, and to borrow a line from children playing Hide and Seek, Here they come, ready or not!

Your point is well taken, but there are a few things you need to know.

First. Any oil that is taken from the Cali. coast (or anywhere in the US) will not help reduce our dependence on foreign oil for the simple fact that all the oil taken will go on the world commodities market to be sold to the "highest bidder", it will not "stay here".

I live in Southern New Jersey. There's talk of off-shore drilling here also. NJ also has serious budget issues. But NJ revenues are highly dependent on tourism at the shore area. One small accident, even way out in the "canyons" could destroy tourism, not to mention what it would do to the commercial fishing industry. It's just not worth it, in my opinion.

Second, alternative fuel development is not in the infancy stage. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL), a private laboratory funded by the DOE, established by President Carter in 1978, has been studying all types of alternatives for the past 30 years with colleges/universities and private companies.

Of particular interest, is their biofuel program. Specifically, algae oil to biodiesel. I know quite a bit about this. In fact, so much so, that I have personally applied for a grant from the NREL to get a pilot scale program off the ground that will grow/harvest algae in a cost effective way.

Biodiesel is being used on a fairly large scale already. Mostly it is blended with petrol diesel 50/50 (B50). It is also blended with home heating oil. The problem is that most of this biodiesel is produced from soybean oil. This could drive up the price of soybean for food/human consumption. Algae oil will not cut into the food supply. And it's easier to extract the oil from it. Some strains of algae are up 60% lipids (oil). Unlike ethanol (E85), which takes more energy to produce then you get from it, biodiesel provides 3 units of energy for every 1 that is used to produce it. The only roadblock is growing algae, large scale, cost effectively. Algae needs only three things to grow: water, CO2 and sunlight. The difficulty has been in trying to supply natural sunlight to the algae. Mutual shading has been difficult to overcome.

There is huge amount of misconception out there being exploited by "the right wing media". If you want to know the facts go directly to the source.

When I was young and they packed me off to school
and taught me how not to play the game,
I didn't mind if they groomed me for success,
or if they said that I was a fool.
So I left there in the morning
with their God tucked underneath my arm --
their half-assed smiles and the book of rules.
So I asked this God a question
and by way of firm reply,
He said -- I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
So to my old headmaster (and to anyone who cares):
before I'm through I'd like to say my prayers --
I don't believe you:
you had the whole damn thing all wrong --
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.
Well you can excomunicate me on my way to Sunday school
and have all the bishops harmonize these lines --
how do you dare tell me that I'm my Father's son
when that was just an accident of Birth.
I'd rather look around me -- compose a better song
`cos that's the honest measure of my worth.
In your pomp and all your glory you're a poorer man than me,
as you lick the boots of death born out of fear.
I don't believe you:
you had the whole damn thing all wrong --
He's not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays.

Dick Cheney has called for declassifying memos he claims will vindicate the Bush administration’s torture policy. Now former Ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV urges the former vice president to extend his demand for transparency to his still-secret testimony in the Scooter Libby obstruction of justice case.

Former Vice President Dick Cheney’s reemergence on the political stage after his ignominious departure on Inauguration Day, eschewing the traditional handshake with his successor and the new president, is nothing if not ironic. The most secretive individual in American politics is now calling for the selective release of documents that remain classified in one of his own files marked “Detainees.” We have also learned that a principal reason for having tortured senior al Qaeda detainees was not, in fact, to defend the Homeland, but rather to build the case for war with Iraq based on alleged ties between Saddam Hussein and Osama bin Laden. Despite literally hundreds of waterboarding sessions, there was no evidence developed that such a link existed. But that did not stop Cheney. He and others in the Bush administration simply asserted a link even though they knew one did not exist.

The disinformation campaign to manipulate public opinion in favor of the [Iraq] invasion, the torture program, and the illegal exposure of a clandestine CIA agent—my wife, Valerie Plame Wilson—were linked events.

I know something about Cheney’s disinformation. When I, and a number of others, including a four-star Marine Corps general, Carleton Fulford, and the then-U.S. Ambassador to the West African nation of Niger, reported to the CIA that there was no evidence to support the assertion that Iraq had entered into a contract to purchase 500 tons of uranium yellowcake, our conclusions were ignored by the Bush administration. Instead, the president, in his State of the Union address in 2003, proclaimed a falsehood: “Saddam Hussein recently sought significant quantities of uranium from Africa.” Then National Security Adviser Condoleezza Rice was trotted out to assert that we could not afford to “wait for the smoking gun to come in the form of a mushroom cloud,” and Cheney himself asserted that Iraq was reconstituting its nuclear-weapons program.

There is no longer any question that we were misled by an administration that had already made the decision to invade, conquer, and occupy Iraq, and did everything it could to force the facts to justify their action. Cheney, the architect of the Bush administration’s disastrous national security and foreign policies, now wants to declassify certain classified documents that he believes will vindicate his advocacy of a war of choice in the Middle East and his support of torture. Cheney asserts that the ends justify the means whatever the insult to international law, the conscience of the world, and damage to the long-term U.S. national-security interests.

Cheney’s request for the declassification of material is a welcome development, but it should not be limited to his narrow request. Our country’s understanding of what was done in our name by the Bush administration depends on the release, not just of the documents Cheney has designated, but of all documents related to the efforts of the Bush administration and Cheney himself to defend the indefensible—the decision to invade Iraq despite the knowledge at the time that Iraq did not have a nuclear program, had no ties to al Qaeda, and posed no existential threat to the United States or to its friends and allies in the region.

The disinformation campaign to manipulate public opinion in favor of the invasion, the torture program, and the illegal exposure of a clandestine CIA agent—my wife, Valerie Plame Wilson—were linked events. In their desperate effort to gather material to whip up public support, Cheney and others resorted to torture, well known in the intelligence craft to elicit inherently unreliable information. Cheney & Co. then pressured the CIA to put its stamp of approval on a series of falsehoods—26 of which were inserted into Secretary of State Colin Powell’s speech before the United Nations Security Council. At the same time, Cheney was furiously attempting to suppress the true information that Saddam Hussein was not seeking yellowcake uranium in Niger. After I published the facts in an article in The New York Times in July 2003, Cheney tried to punish me and discredit the truth by directing the outing of a CIA operative who happened to be my wife.

Among other documents Cheney should release is his testimony to Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald about the role he played in the treasonous leak of the identity of a covert CIA officer. His chief of staff, I. Lewis “Scooter” Libby, was convicted of obstruction of justice and perjury for his efforts to ensure that the “cloud over the vice president,” as Fitzgerald noted, was not penetrated.

As a witness in the Libby case, Cheney has the legal grounds to release his own testimony. If he feels more comfortable, he can ask permission, though he does not need it, from former President George W. Bush—and ask that Bush release his testimony as well. Because Cheney has called for transparency, why should he or Bush object? Then Pat Fitzgerald can make public the transcripts. It’s time for this coverup to end.

The American people deserve to know the truth at last, not to depend on Cheney’s selective and biased versions. Let us take the former vice president up on his demand for documents and declassify them all. Then, and only then, will we fully understand what he and his henchmen did in the name of the United States.

UPDATE: This article originally stated Wilson's New York Times op-ed ran in 2002. It has been revised to reflect that it ran in 2003.

Joseph C. Wilson IV served as ambassador to two African nations in the administration of George H.W. Bush, and as senior director for African Affairs for President Bill Clinton. He was in charge of the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad during the first Gulf War and was the last American diplomat to confront Saddam Hussein before Desert Storm. He is the author of the bestseller The Politics of Truth. He is married to former CIA officer, Valerie Plame Wilson, whose identity was betrayed by senior officials in the George W. Bush administration.

mike ~ forget about Cheney and the f'in terrorists/prisoners who were "tortured". Worry about the Chief of Homeland Security, named by Hussein, Janet Napolitano who has insulted all veterans who serve honorably and is creating fear of military veterans by insinuating that they would betray America by calling them terrorists. As Hussein's spokeswoman, she and he, both, should be tried for treason.
Throw those bums OUT; they are doing more harm than good.

Shaun Hannity said he would be open to letting himself be waterboarded. Perhaps he would also be open to "point and laugh" in the shower. Maybe forced masturbation with more point and laugh from a female soldier. How about being part of a naked, all male human pyramid? While he's wearing a pair of women's panties on his head? Perhaps a pair of J. Edgar Hoover's panties. Oh, I forgot, he wears them all the time, anyway, just not on his head.

This is the truly embarrassing shit the Bush people were responsible for. It should be absolutely clear to everyone, that this country was being run buy a bunch of adolescent boys who were terrified of the inadequacies of their own penises. It's like something from "Porky's".

You forgot about executing prisoners in our custody, violating the Geneva convention. At least the case in Germany is being covered where our troops executed 4 men with their hands tied behind their backs. They did not follow the orders of their superiors because they had no cause to hold or detain the Iraqis, but they executed them without a trial or due process or what is it that we are fighting for again, democratic principles.

I say we need to lead by example.

Yesterday morning, eight doctors, lawyers and other activists stood up to Senator Max Baucus. And the private health insurance industry. And the corporate liberals in Congress. The eight activists demanded that single payer - everybody in, nobody out, free choice of doctor and hospital - be put on the table. And as a result they were arrested. And charged with a so-called "disruption of Congress."

The Associated Press, Wall Street Journal, Politico, Democracy Now and National Public Radio all carried stories about the protest. C-Span carried it live. And it was widely disseminated on the Internet.

Baucus crafted a hearing to kick off the health care debate in the Senate yesterday where 15 witnesses would be at the table to discuss health care reform.10 Excellent Reasons for National Health Care

* The insurance industry was at the table.
* The Business Roundtable was at the table.
* The U.S. Chamber of Commerce was at the table.
* Blue Cross Blue Shield was at the table.
* The Heritage Foundation was at the table.

And corporate liberals like Andy Stern, Ron Pollack, and AARP were at the table. But not one person who stood for what the majority of Americans, doctors, nurses, and health economists want (single payer) was at the table. Not one.

When I heard about this corporate line-up last week, I called the office of Senator Baucus. And politely asked that, as a matter of fairness, a single payer doctor be allowed to testify. I was told - no way, Ralph. The deal is done.

So, yesterday, at 10 a.m., the Baucus Eight, led by Single Payer Action and other single payer groups, took to the Senate Finance Committee. And directly and respectfully confronted a room full of corporate lobbyists. And corporate controlled Senators. And again asked that a group of doctors who were in the room to support Medicare for all be allowed to testify.

The answer again - no, no, and no. Remember what Senator Richard Durbin said last week? Durbin said that the banks "own" the Congress. To which we might add - the health insurance industry and the drug industry own the Senate.

Faxing, writing, and e-mailing is not getting it done. Enough is enough. Time for action. This is a winnable issue. But the American people need to focus on 535 members of Congress. And get mobilized. Single Payer Action is at your service to get the job done.

So, donate now -- $8, $18, $80, or $800.

To honor the Baucus Eight - who all wore black yesterday in memory of the more than 20,000 Americans who - according to the Institute of Medicine - die every year from lack of health insurance. And to fuel a citizen action movement that will deliver single payer to the American people - sooner not later. Together, we can break the corporate stranglehold on Congress. And deliver health care for all. Single payer. More comprehensive. More efficient. More humane. More peace of mind. Let's get it done. Onward to single payer,

Ralph Nader

PS: Remember, if you donate $100 or more by May 14, 2009, we will send you two galvanizing books that concisely detail the case for single payer in America.

* Health Care Meltdown by Robert LeBow, MD, revised and updated by Dr. C. Rocky White - a Republican doctor so fed up with the needless suffering caused by the insurance industry that he become a leading advocate for single payer.

HiBill:

I think it will be worth it for you, to check this out.

New, hard hitting book, just out, about the pharmaceutical industry.

Outline:

Bob Catalano, present owner and operator of New England Singles Dances of Eastern Massachusetts, at age 16 was introduced to the research of the late Dr. Henry Lindlahr, who had performed cancer studies at his own cancer clinic in chicago in the late 1800’s. Lindlahr found that drugs and surgery did more harm than good in the treatment of cancer. He and his findings were rejected by his colleagues.

In the mid 1950’s, Robert Catalano worked as a pharmacist and drug store manager for Robert’s Drug in Oklahoma City, he began to see some truth in Lindlahr’s findings. After many years of his own private study and observations, Bob Catalano has come to the conclusion that the use of drugs and vaccinations should be completely abolished as a giant fraud. His book, "THE GREAT WHITE HOAX", published by iUniverse, is the result of many years of close observation; and amounts to a huge assault on the pharmaceutical industry.

Mr. Maher, I used to ride on your bandwagon proudly. After seeing several videos of you belittling and straight-up bullying people demanding the 9/11 truth on the set of your show, I have lost all respect. You are either a thinly veiled pawn for the elite bankers distracting people with useless bipartisan bickering, or you actually still haven't figured out that Democrats and Republicans are both on the same side. People for the 9/11 truth movement use the same logic and questioning of their government as you did against religion in Religulous. If you can't carry that same logic over to questioning your own government, then clearly you were just in it for a quick buck. You're as patriotic as the Patriot Act.
